I get where you coming from but why should SE care about if you can't login for a extend of time since they want to remove houses from inactive players? They already freeze the timer when there is disasters.

If they had stuck with what they said in 2013 and people would never lose their house - different story.

90days a bit too long imo, but extends to 60days kinda reasonable since it haps ppl take long vacation to other country etc

Fair point, but there are times when disasters hit, and they do not pause the timer. The disaster has to be considered big enough for them to pause it. So people dealing with minor natural disasters are just completely screwed over. As someone that lives in Tornado Alley, it's the sort of thing you like to be aware of, cause I am pretty sure that if a tornado hit my area, and my house was destroyed, that timer wouldn't be put on hold, since it would realistically be a very minor natural disaster compared to something like a hurricane.
It's why I think at least a paid option, one time use, would be nice, because then at least SE is getting something out of delaying the timer, that thing being money, which is what a business should be after.

If SE wants to clean up dormant accounts that is one thing but if I'm still paying the sub why should SE care whether I go visit it on some arbitrary schedule of their choosing?

I wish the timer was 30 days. If you are not an active player, why take up housing that active players could be utilizing? Housing is not an infinite resource so it's necessary to keep inactive players from taking up some of the most valuable and popular content in the game.

SE is not responsible for concessions for the random players who have unforeseen circumstances. SE does have investment in it's player base as a whole and has this system for a reason. This is a "big picture" decision they've made rather than catering to individual entitlement.

If their real life home was destroyed in a fire, they have much bigger things to worry about than what happened to a virtual house in a game. The virtual house is much easier to replace than what they've lost in real life.

Anyone who puts losing a virtual house on the same level of loss as a real home is someone who's never experienced genuine loss.

I doubt that would always be true. Especially in the case of someone who owns multiple houses and is grandfathered in. Or if you own a personal mansion, those aren't easy to replace. And if your personal emergency causes you to be away from the game for more than 80 days, you also lose all your furnishings as well, including anything seasonal or from the mogstation. Personally, if I lost everything in real life, knowing that I could eventually come back to my game and not have lost everything there too would be a small comfort. I understand losing plots since they are such a finite resource, but the vendor shouldn't lose all the furnishings (or should at least keep them longer).

Let's all just admit the housing system in this game is just plain stupid. SE basically forces players to stay subbed if they want to keep their houses. Yoshi-P says "No no it's okay...you can take a break...but if you're gone for too long we're taking your house you worked hard to get. Sorry...not sorry."




Adding new wards won't solve anything, extending the timer means nothing. This is the only MMO I've played that has a major flaw in it's housing system. They add real life realness to getting and keeping houses in this game and that's cute but honestly, this is a video game, not real life. If you worked your ass off to get that dream house you wanted for so long and fought multiple people to get it, that means you've earned it and you deserve to keep it. SE preys on player's fears and will do w/e to get more $$$, even so far as to force players to stay subbed to keep their homes. It's slimey and it's pathetic.


Apartments we're a step up. They should have had this at the beginning of the game to begin with instead of waiting 3+ years later to add this. I mean, you get a free mog house when you begin the game in FFXI and everyone has access to it. That game was made 16 years ago mind you, so why is FFXIV so slow in the housing department?



They add random timers to the houses now, which it does reduce house flippers, however, it also punishes the players who don't house flip. You are basically fighting other players to get the house first and then suddenly a random player waltz's over and relocates and claims the home you were camping and fought for to get. Thus the players are back to square one and waiting again for a home. It's sickening.



Honestly, after 5 years of this "remake", if you can't make housing available to everyone, then just get rid of it and come back with a better system, cause the currently system is nothing but fail. And it will continue to be a failure unless Yoshi-P and his team decide to get off their butts and do something about it...but I guess that's asking for too much from their paying customers.

yeah, how dare you want your life to go back to some semblance of normalcy after some kind of tragedy? i'm not saying it's even remotely on the same level - it's obviously not - but it's just another bad thing to happen to someone who just had a lot of bad things happen. once the dust settles and life has moved on, i'm sure they'd want to get back to the things they enjoy.

for the record, i do think the timer is an unfortunate necessity, i just wish it was better handled. keeping furnishings and gil from plots up to reclaim permanently, since they're not hurting anyone by being there, would be great.
