We pay a subscription; nothing in this game is free.

Mogstation can rot in a dumpster. With how much SE loves to proclaim this game as a smashing success with (wait for it) "10 MILLION PLAYERS!!!!" *gasp*, they have no reason to beg for money from a subscription based game.
Why would you WANT to pay for an outfit?
As far as I remember, cash shop purchases go directly back to the FFXIV team and only the FFXIV team, whereas sub/expansion income goes to SE as a whole to use across all their projects and shareholders. I'm happy to pay for stuff in mog station if it means it's going back to the FFXIV team that make the only SE game I actively play.
Nothing in life is truly free. But we pay for the right to play this game every month on top of the cost just to download it. I'm of the feeling that since we pay a sub so SE can cover the costs of running and creating content for the game, we should not have to pay extra money on top of that for other things like emotes and outfits. If they really want to have the cash shop then give us an option to earn it for free in-game somehow. But it's flat-out ridiculous to have a cash shop on top of what we already pay. The best thing I can say about it is "at least it's not pay to win"... which isn't exactly a high bar to clear.
How about a glamour system built into the game that doesn't suck instead, and is free?
One that doesn't clog a retainer's inventory with otherwise obsolete items, and is account-wide, and has a nice, clean easy-to-use interface?
Did you ignore the rest of my post? Let me break it down for you.
- FFXIV is a Pay to Play MMO with a monthly subscription.
- The cost is necessary so the devs can keep the lights on and keep producing content that people want so they keep paying the sub fee. So we pay to play and access the content we want to make use of.
- Costumes (glamour), mounts, and emotes are a huge part of why people play MMOs in the first place- it's cool to get stuff for doing stuff. We get some of these things in-game because the devs know that.
- XIV also has a cash shop that sells these things, only you can't get them anywhere else (/playdead, various glamour gear, mounts, and more)
- That is really f***ing greedy and I strongly disagree with its existence
And the more and more they add, the more I feel like SE is going to stop putting them in the game itself. If I wanted to pay for non-essential stuff I'd just cut the costs and play a Korean MMO that locks all the good stuff behind micro-transactions. It'd be cheaper for me and I wouldn't feel stiffed because I would not be paying OVER A HUNDRED DOLLARS A YEAR on top of that. That's where the rub is. I think we should get what they produce since we are already technically paying for it to be made.
I would not mind the Mog Shop's existence so much if there were ways to earn its contents in game. Lock each item behind a huge grindfest the likes of which the world has never seen if you have to.
