I think there's a black and white to what you and I are foreseeing. I'm far too focused on how much a sentiment like this would mean to me in a few years, and you're far too focused on how silly the sentiment will be when it happens. But far too many threads are derailed by polarizing people like that - I'd kinda like to throw both of those out the window and just focus on the gray area in-between.

For the majority of the game, they won't be super rare or super common, they'll just be. I don't think that breaks anything, and I definitely don't think it moves the game towards being "not Final Fantasy because it's too similar to any other MMO" just because every now and then you go, "Ohey, that guy's riding an Umbral Era drake..."

I just thought of a Lalafel with a Snurble mount, and now I want to see it. xD

Goobbue mounts seem like a joke idea to me. Of all the mobs there are few that look less . . . mount-like to me . . . I guess because it is bipedal and doesn't have a good spot to put a saddle? Doesn't strike me as a swift, efficient mount either, more like a lumbering lummox. :p

To each their own though! If people have their hearts set on Goobbue mounts, I wouldn't complain. ^^

I don't think they've honestly decided to pursue any of that seriously yet - I think it was just an experiment. Notice that the mobs they rendered as mounts were the most popular responses in the "what mounts would you like to see!?" thread from way back? The only one missing is Coblyn - and most of us were joking. (I was serious when I said drake.) However, Goobbue was a joke from the start. I highly doubt they're serious.

nice like the mounts give people who don't enjoy the game a reason to actually grind besides a char head start.

I just want a Dodo or a Mandragora mount plox!

absalutely awsome i want a drake or maybe even a full fledged dragon or a giant wooly mamoth idc what it is aslong as i get it im gona pay to play becuase i want to see just how awsome yoshi-san makes the game he's impressed me so far with his efforts to improve the game we have

Coblyn - Yes Please. (Eyeballs as stearing Controlls...lol)
Snurble - the word "Splat" comes to mind
Apkallu - Um no...i dont think id like to ride it in a 45 degree angle.
Hippogryph - Possible...
Sheep / Ram - Wild Ride, possibly the most wobbliest ride ever.
Mole - Um....hellz no, if i wanted a submarine ride id go watch "Das Boot"
Gnat - hm shaky ride, might get me an epileptic seizure attack, so no thx.
Hog / Boar - Why the hell not? I'd even name it Ganondorf.
Antelope - Bambi anyone?
Spriggan - they look crazy enough without stuff on their shoulders.
Bumble Beetle - If larger yes.
Aldgoat - Maybe...., only if they go MooOoo if i press "Enter"
Crabs - Hm.... maybe
Pieste - Well i'd hate to se the mount stable.
Jelly - God NO!
Dreamtoad - Does it come with a front-bumper, spoiler & go-faster-stripes?
Widowmaker / Diremite - Might be the coolest possible mount ever.... the "Sting"-ray Corvette mount of FFXIV
Firefly - ......get the flax out of here...
