I'm surprised to see the polar reactions to the idea of the "Special Mounts," so I wanted to get a little discussion going about them. But first, a ground rule to stop a little trolling ahead of time:
Naoki Yoshida-san stated that these "special mounts" (with the exclusion of the highly requested Magitek Machina) are a possible reward to players who pay through the Seventh Umbral Era (Calamity) storyline when they get to 2.0. Reference to these mounts as commonplace and/or a long-term game mechanic for post-calamity characters is erroneous.
In my opinion, it's a great idea. We survivors of Dalamud's wrath will live in an era that will never be seen again - what's so hard to believe that when times got tough, we got tougher?
The primals run free? We put them down.
The empire invades? We teach them to take us seriously.
The moon falls? We rebuild.
Civilization itself collapses, ownership of the land is decided by war, and only the strong survive?
We tame and we ride whatever the $%(@ we want to!
When 2.0 is released, and far into the future of the game,
I want to be able to look upon my chocobo-mounted allies and proudly proclaim to the stableboy:
BRING ME MY DRAKE.
Who's with meh!?
