Special Mounts

I'm surprised to see the polar reactions to the idea of the "Special Mounts," so I wanted to get a little discussion going about them. But first, a ground rule to stop a little trolling ahead of time:

Naoki Yoshida-san stated that these "special mounts" (with the exclusion of the highly requested Magitek Machina) are a possible reward to players who pay through the Seventh Umbral Era (Calamity) storyline when they get to 2.0. Reference to these mounts as commonplace and/or a long-term game mechanic for post-calamity characters is erroneous.

In my opinion, it's a great idea. We survivors of Dalamud's wrath will live in an era that will never be seen again - what's so hard to believe that when times got tough, we got tougher?

The primals run free? We put them down.
The empire invades? We teach them to take us seriously.
The moon falls? We rebuild.

Civilization itself collapses, ownership of the land is decided by war, and only the strong survive? We tame and we ride whatever the $%(@ we want to!

When 2.0 is released, and far into the future of the game,
I want to be able to look upon my chocobo-mounted allies and proudly proclaim to the stableboy:
BRING ME MY DRAKE.

I really like this idea of rewarding players that played through the subscription fee period up until 2.0.

But the question will be for many of these players, when will we obtain these "Rewards"?
At start of pay-day or start of 2.0 ?

At the moment i dont really care, it's still a loooong way to 2.0

I like the idea of a special mount, several years down the road it'll be one of those "oohhh, neat, nostalgic." things.

I say HELL YES to the mounts! I can't stress enough how much I want to ride on a Gobbue and play the show-off to all the newer players. <3

Then again, I'm probably not alone in that. Huhuhuhu.

And then ps3 players will whine they can;t ride cool mounts and SE will add a different colour special mounts for the rest of the playerbase. It's always like that.

Only if you have the rest of the set! Full onion knight armor = "Wow, look at that Collector's Edition GQ motherf*****."

Probably, but there's always the hope that Yoshida-san won't disappoint those who defied orthodox business practice out of love for the franchise and said, "I don't care if the product isn't ready; I want to invest in its future" and paid up for the Seventh Umbral Era.

I'm with you! 'cause you know what? F*ck Ifrit's item drops. F*ck the Primals! F*ck everything that's endgame, what I want is to be rewarded for my loyalty! I'm investing in the future of Final Fantasy XIV, totally.

Give me my damn drake! Dragoon riding a Drake? F*ck yeah. Total paradox FTW.

P.S. This is mostly a joke based on that huge thread I started, lol

It's a good joke; lol. Like Yoshida-san said, FFXIV is a Theme Park (as in it has a lot to do and something for everyone, not as in FFXIV being built on the "theme park approach to MMO building"... because I still have to say that to avoid being called out for some reason).

In a theme park you've got rewards for your games of skill, rewards for your luck with chance, and sometimes, if you get to the main event early enough, you get a door prize.

Nothing wrong with rewarding a little loyalty; we paid admission to a park that wasn't built, we came early to a show that wasn't ready, we stood in line, cheered the house on, and if they decide to give us a door prize? {looks back on all those who'd bitch about it} F**k 'em, I'll take it! Saddle my drake; it's time to show those Beast Tribes what's for!
