I'm very disappointed and don't quite know how to put what I feel into words regarding this.
All I can say is.. it will make for a very dead world to me.

I am pro-instance. Instances allow for balanced, scripted encounters without the possibility of external grief.
The game also needs content that is suitable for pick-up groups, which can be instanced or not. FFXI had lots of content for pick-up groups, including the mother-of-all pick-up group content: EXP parties. FFXI also had events like assault, campaign and beseiged which were good for meeting new people outside of an LS structure.
Pick-up groups need the support of good party formation tools. The ability to seek/search for members for events allows for a more social MMO experience, whether the game is heavily instanced or not.
right in my opinion they are picking out all these things from other mmo's that only worked with the other stuff they had in them that this game don't have or will never have, or will never be any where near as good. makes no sense to me still an wondering where it's heading.
All I can say is that heavily instanced world + easy powerlevel as explained by Yoshida will lead to an even more dead world. The only life I see in the chatlog now is random people asking for party.
When Linkshells can grab a bunch of lowbies and PL them with a single lvl 50... bye bye to player interaction outside of ls in Eorzea.
"Future content will be heavily instanced"
then FFXIV will never come out of WOW's shadow, since it will be come the same thing. one big empty world where every one will be sitting in town. why even make a world just make hubs like PSO.
well if that really happens SE will be (Too weak to be worth while)
I liked op. A lot of times you spend most of your time with the same few people if your hopping from instance to instance the world feels like there's only 8 of you like diablo and guild wars i.e. not really mmos.
and like others have mentioned if to top it off you can get to lv. 999 by being rushed through 'hell cows' then the game becomes a smaller experience and for some insignificant.
I'm sorry this is totally random but Eco Warrior is not leve-like it's a Taru-massacare of horrific proportions!
Show me one leve that is as challenging or needs as much planning to pull off. Leves are sing and dance-time with happybears compared to the brutally cruel Eco Warrior. I was one of the 3 people out of 15 players who completed the quest in my group and that's only because I fled like the wind when everybody else started dying left and right.
Instances in FFXI:
1) Dynamis
2) Limbus
3) Einherjar
4) Assualt
5) Salvage
6) BCNM
7) Walk of Echos
Non-instance end game:
1)Sky
2)Sea
3)HNM
4)Abyssea
did i leave anything out?
A lot of FFXI endgame is instanced, but are timed and have cooldowns before reentry. It's those restrictions on instanced content that makes you feel you spent more time in Sky or Sea or waiting up to 3hrs for a HNM pop.
actually you left out stuff like ZNMs, besieged, campaign, All the augment events (which there were a few) Story events were a mix of both, Fov was open, though it was more a part of leveling. Walk of Echoes is kind of a hybrid, anyone can enter in both the lobby area and the event. Abyssea itself had a big mix of events that were all open. I forgot the name of it, was an older event were you with a group of NPCs fought off waves of enemys....it was really big in the early years and quite the spectical, but i forgot the name.
there was just as much open stuff as there was closed and thats one big thing that i loved about FFXI over most of the things ive played lately. they really need to keep it like that.
Besieged and campaign aren't really end game events. You could bring a level 50 character into campaign but not receive full credit til lv 70 i think. and Besieged I don't think there were any restrictions.
ZNM is basically instanced content in open world. You buy pop items to spawn a NM which you gain a item to pop the next tier and so on and so on.
The end game that counts, that a ton of time players spend in were instanced. Dynamis 3 hours 2 days a week, Limbus ~1.5 hours 2 days a, Nyzul Isle assault ~2hrs once a week.
Spent about 3-4 hours in sky each week and same in sea. But unlike the above instanced events how often in sky/sea were you farminf for pop items or waiting for that NM to spawn, a long with several other LS?
I don't want all things in this game to be instanced. But I also don't want to sit around for hours to to see another LS claim that NM we need to progress our end game... It's not fun anymore.
