Except that there will always be people that don't craft and that will buy stuff from the MB. This issue has always been about the low prices on the MB.
Last time I checked there were still stuff in this game that can only be bought with gil.

Speculation-wise (based on what sucks in other games)
The entire Craft-then-desynth mechanism is always broken. Items should be crafted because there is a demand, and desynthed when there is a glut. Unfortunately the materials (in other games) tends to be a tiny fraction of the original materials, so the entire mechanic winds up being a way to give a reason to craft stuff nobody wants. This is broken.
Specialization type of mechanics in other games is mainly a way gate resource management. So instead of having every player, and illegal RMT bot flooding the market with whatever is the most profitable, it reduces it to just the specialization. People who are very much in love with the crafting system may build extra characters just to do this, but the reality is that most people aren't going to except bots.
So let's say... the Specialization works like the current class/job system does for ACN/SMN/SCH, where you can only "tune" one or the other job specialization. This doesn't necessarily mean you can't do both, but maybe it results in "specialization" being easier to craft without maxed out gear, while non-specialization makes it very-hard to craft, though with the best possible gear it may still have a chance.
Like, I don't know, I always found desynth mechanics a bit of a betrayal to the crafting system. It would, and should, always be crafted items being BiS gear, while dungeon gear is only equal to the BiS Crafted gear of that level. Not craft trash and desynth... for what? Who uses crafted gear then? You're lucky if you can even sell any crafted gear.
See: Desynth.
She has a good point though!
The highest tier crafting mats are gotten from gathering (again, you can do that on your own) with others being available at to buy with Tomes and GC seals.
Literally there is NOTHING you can't do on your own if you have the patience!
This systems will force players to choose their favorite crafter, choose one to profit from, and let everyone else have a reason to spend gil beyond the game's current single gill-sink, housing. And really, if we have to choose ONE you will see all the classes getting specialists. GSM and WVR will be the obvious choices, but this specialist system makes me want to learn more about CRP and LTW!
Motorcycles and travelling yaks as a gil sink please!
As a crafter, I find myself amassing money, but for what? At this point I'm funneling it to gearing up my crafting to have lucis, bought demimateria to get supra for gathering, and most likely work on my FC housing. Even with all gathering, I find myself buying low grade materials because I can't be bothered to go after non unspoiled items. This is something that is different for everyone.
As far as specialization, we could see it as maybe a "job" extension thing...though as much as I hate the crossign system. It'd be required for specific crafts and limit/restrict cross skills. If it ends up being something where you can only take 1 specalization no-questions-asked, then it kinda goes against the idea of the armor system allowing you to have access to all crafts. And before its compared to desynthesis, the latter (with fishing being the exception) all lead to demimaterias, not class-specific goods.
