XIV: P2P or F2P? XI never has Cash Shop, why XIV has?

Actually, it might be, cause this is no way the devs doing but SE marketing teams. We all know where SE money goes. Maybe all of this is being doing at the back of Yoshida and XIV team. SE shareholders are far more important and everyone of us. Your money goes to them, not the development of the game.

Why is it so hard to understand!

The monthly fee you pay covers:
-Rent on the account you pay. (This covers standard access to the game, and any features/content considered as such.)
-Minor/Major patches and updates
-Fixes
-Customer support

What it doesn't cover:
-Expansion packs (3.0, 4.0, exc)
-Extra's not considered as standard
-Special actions and services
-Any article that is not a part of the box

I can see SE trying a similar tactic SOE used when they first brought its cash shop to EQ2 after the idea took off in Warcraft. Slowly over time that same cash shop trickled into EQ1. I honestly wouldn't be shocked at all if a cash shop did appear in XI if the cash shop in XIV is even a remote success.

Nah, you broke it for her/him ...

Minions - do nothing to gameplay
Mounts - do nothing to gameplay you don't get for "free" already
Cosmetics - do nothing to gameplay and most of them were already available for "free"
Eternal Bond - yet again, no gameplay effects.

I'll continue to not buy stuff from the shop because I don't care about those things. I like the idea that if you missed out on an event cosmetic that you could get it some other way.
If they start selling gear that's relevant to top-end content or critical to gameplay in some way I'll get my pitchfork. But the "slippery slope" argument is typically nonsense.

Final Fantasy XIV : ARR, is NOT their only product. Any revenue generated by ARR gets split apart and drafted into the rest of the company.


However, if more revenue besides the monthly subscriptions is acquired, extra previously declined financial investments can be considered such as the EU datacentre, which is going to cost somewhere in the regions of a few hundred thousand Euro's to initially setup and them maintain. From a financial standpoint they'll consider how much per-month on average is being earned for ARR to provide a projected profit, and now ontop of this they can add in the additional sales of the Mogstation.

This drastically increases ARR's chances of;
-Hiring New Staff
-Seeking new Additions/Ventures

Which leads to new content and faster, and an overall more convenient experience.

The money from the Mogstation additional services eases the cost of a complete new datacentres initial costs which is going to be a rather large financial blow to the ARR team's budget.


THE MOGSTATION ITSELF WILL NOT PAY FOR THESE NEW ADDITIONS. Don't become confused on this, this subsidises the overall cost to setup the new datacentre in Europe, which will pay it's investment overtime (similar to the extra servers added on launch to cope with the stress).





"But I don't want to have to pay to get a few minions and a mount!"

Then simply don't. These were items/services that were made AND requested by players FOR the Mogstation.

It generates money for the game, which in return goes BACK TO YOU, and the game that you play.

If you still think that a few $3 minions is a mad cash-grab and not a way to improve the game, you're a fool.

HAHAHAHAHAHA no.

The counts have been done quite a few times arround the forums. SE has more than enough money to cover actually everything of the game. The only way microtransactions money is going is shareholders. And that isn`t bad perse. Is bad cause for this we got a terrible cash shop for this and the game is becoming a pay2enjoy experience within a pay2play to game. Which is frankly, a disgusting financial strategy. But again, gamers keep reciving as they deserve because they are pretty much, the worse consumers ever in terms of consumer rights and how they just glady go with everything the industry throws at them.

Please quote me where the projected profits and budget for ARR were posted, otherwise this is baseless conjecture and assumption.
Assuming your average person on the forums isn't going to know the ins and outs of SE's financial outlook and budget it's safe enough to assume instead that they're going to do what absolutely every other company does (see below, or my previous post).

Go back and read what I wrote, you've clearly brushed over it.

Every single digit earned from ARR is drafted BACK INTO THE COMPANY.

This is how every company works, if you have separate divisions (of which SE has a ton), when one product does particularly well in this case ARR, the money goes back into investing in other projects.

In order to get the finances to add an entire datacentre costing over and upwards 200-400,000 Euros, you're going to have to go above and beyond your projected profits.



Your confusing Vanity Items with Advatages. THOSE are the only real concern with a cash-shop.
If they were to add, EXP Buffs, Purchasable Currencies/Tokens, Pay-To-Acess Content, Gear with End-Game Stats, or even Gil.

However, this will never happen, Yoshida himself at the UK Fanfest opened by saying "No Pay to Win".

You need to do a little research into the mogstation clearly.

Currently it only offers, what...four-five minions and a mount.


If your entire enjoyment of the game hinges on 5 extra items that have no real impact on your overall experience, then something is VERY wrong with your outlook.

But you do have the right to choose as to whether or not you want these items, as all you simply have to do is choose not to purchase them.
