You don't need to worry about it because it isn't going to happen. They aren't going to tinker with the item levels like that.

geez ppl...
lv 50-60 content, will be lv 50-60, so that ppl that hit 50, don't need to run half the pre-expansion content, to be able to progress. and they won't bump ilv 51+ from 50->80, that'd be absurd.
the AF gear will easily get you to 60.
I think that you're still trying to tie character level to item level. Your character's AF gear is i55 at level 50. GC weapon? i55. I might buy the base level for craft/quest whites being i60, but not lower. 1-4 star crafting is endgame crafting, so those won't come into play until 60.
In terms of power level of the trash, if you're sporting an ilvl of 110-130, I would expect that you're okay through around level 54-55. That's just a guess of course. I'm betting that the initial mobs will be tuned to be hard for AF+GC weapon. Get a couple on you at that gear score and you're done. Maybe AK/WP trash in terms of how much damage they do, at worst. Remember too that raid and dungeon mobs have more HP than open world ones do.
80 is probably pushing it. I don't think 60-70 is though.
No, just no. I do not think it's reasonable to expect you can reach 60 in ilvl130. I'd say 54 or 55 at the most. The expansion dungeons won't have the mechanism the Coil does, but the bosses themselves (especially in the mid to end content) will most certainly have more hit points and do more damage than coil bosses, hence, we'll need higher ilvls. Simply because Coil is the current endgame doesn't mean it's going to transfer over lke that.
What will happen is the level 51 quests will start pumping out gear slightly below the last tier raid, by the time you get 55 you will start seeing gear better then the last tier raid and when you get to 60 you will have totally replaced your raid set. When an expansion comes out they want to close that ilvl gap between players and do a gear reset, they aren't going to give you ilvl 51 gear from 51 quests that wouldn't make sense. I think some people are still hung up on the idea that character level = ilvl, this isn't true.
This is very true and something I didn't consider. There will be a lag for new players continuing the storyline as they're going to have to gear up a small bit to handle Good King Mog, Leviathan, Ramuh and Shiva. Actually, they HAVE to be i80 to continue the storyline past snowcloak.
I'm guessing at a fair bit worse, but I certainly could see how it could happen. I'm curious how they're going to scale the quests. Certainly they could use the side story quests to help players gear up to handle things like snowcloak and the level 50 story mode primals.
Completely agree.Quote:

Right, ilvl is nothing more than soft leveling mechanism that's used to gate content once you reach the hard leveling cap. It prevents you from speed running all the endgame content while letting the designers create tougher bosses. Once the hard cap is raised, those gates can be removed. The purpose of gear is to let you clear content, not the other way around.
