I was doing this on warrior today and discovered if you killed 2 clay golems at once, it would spawn 2 of the Shales on you. I also failed to use my item to weaken them, and chocobo was in the stable getting hit feathers dyed. Was a pretty epic fight indeed ><

I don't. It's still not what I'd call "plenty of time"

Almost every time I get one of these quests, it becomes an interrupt-fest just trying to get the item used. Definitely one of my most hated kind of quests. I don't see why the item can't just be used immediately like most other kinds of items, the 3-second usage time seems hella arbitrary and designed purely to be a pain in the ass, much like getting heavied by enemies while mounted.

Funny thing is how people seem to complain a lot about the beast tribe dailies where you have to go invisible or carry something through an area within a time limit... these quests I've never had any severe trouble with and never had to retry more than once.

Agreed, I've never actually done any quest like this "properly" because I've always been interrupted when I try to use the item. Now I don't even bother and just power through it, they usually aren't hard regardless. It's pretty annoying.

Man this reminded me of the early days in game, when people constantly killed the turtle in that guildhest, lol.

I'll admit we can all get tunnel vision once in a while. I did do something like this the first time I did a quest like this. It was outside Little Ala Mhigo. I think it was a side quest where you had to take down one those large Peiste, I forget what it was actually called. But once I started fighting it I knew something wasn't right, was thinking there is no way I can take this thing down. Then I saw it glaring at me right on the screen,to the right side, ahh a quest item that needs to be used. The rest was history.

I did this quest either the easy way (use potion) or hard way as in literally dps-ing the golem. Still very easy. lol

Besides, it seems like OP didn't do alot of leves or just forgotten about them, since those leve usually teaches player about quest where you need to weaken mob using key items. You will know when you deliver small dps on that mob.

What quest item? I just kill it with my ilvl 94 BLM.

Seriously though, I forgot that there exists quest items that weakens quest mobs. Haven't seen that mechanic since the beast tribe in Southern Thanalan, and I haven't visited them in a long time.

lol. I remember killing it the first time I did that guildhest.

there has been a bunch of these quests, where you need to use some item, to debuff the mob.
there was some bees in south shroud, huge morbols outside Haukke, and more.
You use dissolving acid, or such, it's in key items. it debuffs the golems HP and attack = win.
