Is that why shards are so expensive? In my server the shards used to cost 7-8gil... now it's 25 and up. Ice shards cost 40gil and the same retainer/player have a ridiculous amount to sell like over 100k in shards all divided in different sections. No wonder they make so much gil and then go spamming people to buy gil with real money.

I do agree wholeheartedly that farming shards in XIV are tedious. Even XI has better deal with farming those, since beating elemental yields players with clusters which can be broken down to shards.

I agree that if there's a way to hugely improve low level farming such as clusters, this also beats botters from playing with market prices. Logically, if players with high level or capped DoL can farm shards very easy, botters won't even bother selling these at high prices, or even selling them anymore, period.

I find this very weird that my lvl 50 miner are farming shards like I'm back on level 1. :p

Just wanna correct this: For working on luminary DoL, you can only benefit farming shards for tier 1 achievement only, which is level 1-10 range, and shards are level 1 mining. Doesn't matter if you're farming on lvl 50 spots, it still count as tier 1. If you're working on luminary, you need to farm on appropriate level range on that tier. That means farming a level 41-50 on tier 5 achievement, for example. lol

Crystals, on the other hand, are level 26, and benefitted for tier 3 achievement (level 21-30 range). Clusters are level 50, which should be perfect for tier 5 achievement, except that they are categorized as rare gathering since nodes for that only pops on certain time.

So even if you're in a lv. 50 area farming shards, it wont count towards DoL reward?

I see you have above lvl 40 DoL classes. Best you open your achievement page in-game, then try farming shards yourself, and then check back achievement and see if your shard farming does count on other tier besides tier 1 achievements. That should clearly answer your own question. :)

Thanks, I will do that :)

Either do something to make farming shards less tedious, or do something to make level 40+ crafting recipes not require such utterly stupid numbers of shards. I'm burning through literally thousands in just a few days making materials.

Exactly this, shards are the only item I refuse to gather unless I'm utterly bored. When I run out of a type I usually buy them from the Market Board, as do many other players I'm sure. Those commenting on RMT, forget them for a minute because if you give the player the means to farm shards more easily(or require less to be farmed) then the soulless RMT bots are already going to matter less since myself personally will be more inclined to farm these if made less of a mind-numbing chore.

It'd be nice if we could fish for shards. There are many useless fish, why not remove those and let players fish shards? It would be less painful.

Some uninformed jerk in my server told me that bots don't farm shards at all and that all the shards in the market board is actually farmed by real players... like who would spend days farming over 20k+ shards to make about 70k profit when you can easily make 70k doing other things?

He was really mad at me cause I made a PF asking players to sell shards at a slightly cheaper price than the mb.

I have my luminary. I got it by farming nothing but shards... so this is wrong.

Its the node, not the lvl of item you're farming. also be mindful of the fact that Mor Dhona and Coatheras don't contribute to anything

Just tested this. I guess u're right. Kinda odd though since I thought I remember farming lower level stuff on higher tier spot (not shards though) doesn't add to that particular achievement tier.

Oh well... I did benefit farming other than shards to complete luminary on other DoH though.
