Well, my FC had 7 players enter an instance once, and we all commed the random archer we picked up because we could.
Also, Archer in 8-man trials.

I'm 80% sure he was joking, but it still bothers me to be honest. One of the main reasons FFXIV is appealing to me is that classes aren't locked behind races. Honestly what is wrong with a big dude being a healer? Lalas never get this kind of grief when they tank. Idk, perhaps I'm just annoyed because this has happened many times. Or perhaps I'm just too sensitive.
That sounds a lot like the experience I posted about the other week with the two ninjas that were almost certainly being controlled by the same player. (And another one I had the other night with a summoner-and-scholar pair.) Matching names and only one of the two playing competently.
If that is the case, I'm guessing the 'getting left behind' happens if character A is set to /follow character B, but gets stuck on some uneven ground and has to be individually moved afterwards.
From watching the icons in the party status bar, with the ninjas, one was using lots of abilities but the other was doing very little. With the arcanist pair, I rarely saw all four DoTs up on bosses, and never heard the summoner cast Fester even though they did have Aetherflow on and off.
In both cases, damage was painfully slow throughout the entire dungeon. (Though I can't be certain it wasn't partly my fault in the second case, BLM not being my strong point and Keeper of the Lake not being a good place to stand still and cast spells.)
05N. Tank waits until I have both Refresh and Tactician on cooldown, then shirks me. OT continues to DPS, oblivious that a bard has hate.
I'm basically getting spam healed until I stop dpsing and ask why I'm tanking.
Am told, "It's fun."
No, actually. It's a dick move that make the whole thing take longer, hurts my dps and wastes healer mana.
A rant I wanted to steam off;
Just another evening through Hell's lid, casting off RDM pewpews. Get reamed out with for 'not controlling my aggro' after the first boss from the tank.
Now note I generally use diversion during trash pulls so I cans pewpew during the pull without stripping the mobs off from the train. Because of that I didn't have diversion ready for pull on first boss cause I had used it during the lava valley pull just prior and did pull hate on opening but only for 1 auto attack and tank then got it back so saved lucid for stripping hate later if needed.
Well fight goes on and pull hate again
during a period where multiple ogcds are lining up and shooting off on top of regular gcds. Admittedly I could have used diversion before this but I missed it as I was in the moment and more focused on trying to get all the ogcds on cooldown without clipping. Was standing next to boss this time(preparing for the cone aoe) so its not like it ran anywhere; poped lucid and diversion and hate's back on tank and only 1 autoattack against me again as damage. Fight ends and get the 'control aggro' comment (even though tank only used 2 enmity combos the whole fight, but indeed I could have planned it better). Keep mouth shut cause no point in confronting cause all it'll do is delay the run in some fashion.
Throughout the rest of the run tank had a thorn in their side for me, twas already a 'baddie' in their eye. Starts talking how I should learn from the other dps in the party cause I have 'double his aggro' during fights. Mhmmm, yep sure let me just drop my damage 19% so I can match the aggro of the other dps (No offense to other dps if you happen read this, you did in fact decent damage for your ilvl)
More belittlements were said and I kept silent but tilted, I look back after the run. Turns out tank did 6 power slashes and 7 spinning slashes in the entire run, while I did 6 lucids and 9 diversions but yep sure... I'm the one that needs to learn to 'control my aggro'. Meanwhile other dps only used diversion 3 times and lucid twice, but I'll be sure that I take notes from them... (/s) (Again no offence to intended to the other dps, just inner-thought ranting to myself)
"Ah but you're too anxious, you sound quite aggressive in your encounter initiations and should make sure you wait just a few for the tank to establish hate before going full throttle otherwise you create unneeded work for the tank and healer" you might respond.
Yeah... no, I actually actively try to manage my aggro because of the spike nature of rdm's hate generation which is part of this reason this tilted me so much... The only excessively aggressive initiations I made were indeed the first boss and the two 'chimeria's before the last boss (I had used diversion on the previous pull and it was on CD, and had a double melee combo with manafication) but used lucid right after.
Now I'm no great player, I haven't done any of sigmascape savage yet, never even attempted ultimate nor do I really have a high desire too, and consider myself a casual player. But a tank claiming that I can't control my aggro when I use more aggro-dumping actions then they do enmity combos across the whole duty just /grinds me :/
Apparently, Roes are only allowed to tank or do some melee dps like mnk or sam. We're not allowed to be healers or casters. Being a ninja is a big no no cuz we're too big.
I had a catgirl once telling me I should be tanking due to my size once (I was lvling blm at the time). I told her lvling that job was already boring, I didn't need to tack on a generic appearance on top of it.
The other two lalas laughed and one of them kept using esuna on the catgirl. Made my day xD
People can be so unforgiving of tanks. I tried being cheeky and pulling everything after the second boss to the third on “temple of the fist”, used three cooldowns and died (there were about 3 monsters left from the pack) and got a sarcastic comment for it
BRB race swapping to roe to be the swollest WHM.
Today I get to be the problem, yay! Not too bad of one but still.
So its reset day, going on my PLD for the Sigma normal items. My first run is O4S. I've been gettin in the practice of using Cover/Tempered Will for atleast the other tank but for tonight I decided to use Cover on the first tank buster instead. Things go as normal, use Tempered for the first knockback without Cover, then we get to the second one...at which point Cover is up, I use it and get hit by double shockwave flying off to my home planet. Kinda embarrasing, but I get rezzed quickly by the RDM and apologize. Run goes as normal otherwise.
Second run is Phantom Train, easy right? Well the DRK doesn't want to tank so I decide to. I go for a Cover/Tempered on the MNK in the group this time who runs away anyways. We joke a bit since they aren't used to it, s'all good. I do the same thing, same player next knockback...only to not pay attention and get ghosted away. I think the tactic still worked for the MNK but not sure, kill the ghost and get back in time for adds. Then somehow I completely forget again that about the ghosts during the second phase and get transported again. My awareness needed to be put on apparently for all that I lacked of it.
3 comms usually means they were in a party alltogether and they could only vote for you so as long as you weren't acting like a jerk there is little to no reason not to give you comms.
For exemple if I'm in a party with two other friends and we got a healer who has some difficulty to keep up I'll give him commendation but in the other if the player we met struggles to say "hello" and pulls before the tank or something like that he sure won't have neither comm or thanks from me.
Also I will suggest to have a chat window without the commendation thing on it.
I don't get it too. I mean we die and what? That's not the end of day.
Was DPS'ing Navel on Hard, so as ADC carry rules apply, I shut up and become a rotation machine. First Fail; Bard jumps back off the edge...genius. RDM literally back pedals off the ledge....I was facepalming and dying of hysteria. Nothing major, just super effing hilarious.
Had someone do that in Weeping City a few weeks ago, during Ozma. Alliances load in and we all start running, someone in alliance chat is saying how cool it looks (their first time there) and just as someone posts "don't fall off" that person swan dives off the edge. The entire group, all of us, were in alliance chat with 'lols.' I commented "9.5! Great form!" lol The person who jumped was like "omg you can FALL here?! That's awesome!" Absolutely hilarious!
For a long while, I didn't even understand how everyone was so intent on watching when they were getting commendations. Took me a while to realize I had turned those off very early on. Still a bit baffled that anyone wants to know when they get any. We all know they're not exactly a metric of anything, right? >_>
At this point I see them as a metric of being in a party where at least that many people felt like giving a hoot about other people's performance. I mean, when you hit over 5100 of the things it becomes just another number, and not really one you can use outside of some e-peen waving sort of deal. At that point you pretty much just ignore said number and continue playing the way you've been playing, I suppose. *shrugs*
For reference - I only use 3 enmity combos per dungeon. One for each boss in ShO and then I swap to SwO and proceed to DPS. I don't think I've ever had anyone pull off me in the pull. While the tank definitely sounds like a goober, you did openly admit to failing to utilize your threat dumps efficiently so there's room to improve!
Well threat dumps have like 3 minutes cd so you can succeed at not stealing aggro for one pack but when it's on cooldown, beside throwing a spell every 5 seconds to be sure you don't pull aggro I don't see what you can do more. Maybe waiting a bit for the tank to generate aggro if you see he is struggling.
Yesterday ran an Alliance Raid Roulette with a friend(her on BRD, me on my worst class...WAR). The other tanks were another WAR and a DRK. At some point before the second boss the DRK tells the other WAR to turn off Defiance as they were always fighting for agro. Lots of bickering later about WAR having higher DPS than DRK, and that DRK should be the MT in there(honestly, at this point in the game...it doesn't matter when most people are over gearing those things). Finally I decided to pipe up(I had Defiance on the whole run, and not taken agro at all aside from a short burst on the first boss - we're talking 2sec of me having agro) with "*coughhashaddefianceonthewholetimeandnottakenagrocough*. Not a single word was said(other than between my friend and I over PS chat) the rest of the run.
I remember a mentor roulette I did once that put my scholar (very classy looking btw - Diabolic Coat and glasses) into Hullbreakers. Whole group saod their hellos and we went on but right before the first boss the tank suddenly stopped moving, stood still for a good 2 minutes and then said in chat "never seen a Roegadyn caster before" - I suspect they were playing on PS4, maybe without a keyboard which is why it took them so long to share this.
While it didnt seem to be meant as any kind of insult and rather neutral or at best even as some kind of positive statment, it still irritated me a bit...
I remember my first time doing O8N. I looked around the platform and asked in party chat “can you fall off?”
One of the healers replied “yes” followed by “let me show you” as she jumper off the platform after the fight has started. It was not really a big deal but I found it to be pretty funny.
I was in a Titan EX WT run a while ago(shortly after I got my RDM to 70), and people advised not to use Displacement at all as you will always fall off. Well, I showed them that is false(and this was later into the fight when the platform is as small as it can get). Titan was being tanked directly in the middle of the arena, and I got right under him, used Displacement, and landed with just my toes touching the edge of the platform. A few people commented how they figured I was going to kill myself.
Sometimes a good practical demonstration is fun lol. Anyway, I do remember months back when I was still going through the story and learning RDM and had to fight Titan again for one of the MSQs. Thought I had enough room to use Displacement after the melee combo... Ended up touching the ledge for a split second before I watched in horror as I instead kept falling down rather than stick the landing. I still get flashbacks doing any of Titan's fights, even after learning my lesson that day...
That was some Dun Scaith...
6 new people apparently and I went on RDM (instant queue). I died four times over the course of that fight and none of them were even my fault. Three of the deaths were during Scathach and one for diabolos. First Scathach add isn't tanked leaving me to die slowly (or quickly since it's only 2 hits). During her special the adds aren't tanked and I take aggro on one of them. Tanks "finally" got aggro but not after I'd died. Lastly the second add that spawns again is not tanked and I rip aggro on it and die but not after the entire raid wipes because everyone was too busy tunnel visioning on Scathach and it did Full Swing.
Then my final death was during normal Diabolos during the stack marker. Some reason our tank who was the MT thought it'd be a good idea to stack with a boss that cleaves so everyone got cleaved twice.
I implore all tanks, if you queue for alliance roulette.... TANK. And also raid awareness because cleaves. I can only use Diversion and Lucid so much.
I'm not saying tanks should just do enmity combo's or arguing "tank's job is to tank, leave dps to the dps." I appreciate tanks (and healers) that try and push what they can and even appreciate the slip-ups that may come from optimizing that process because I feel its an overall benefit to learn just how far it can be pushed.
But when a dps is arguably using threat dumps efficiently and has an average time between diversions (has a cooldown of 2:00) of 2:15 or 2:12 if we ignore the flub halfway through on the first boss; the situation with the chimeras couldn't have been avoided by myself as diversion was on cooldown unless I choose to waste mana generation and/or gcds as lucid doesn't help in that situation until after the enmity is generated. And have a tank reprimands the dps for not doing enough to control their aggro while the tank themselves is not using the (more available) enmity tools at the tank's disposal is disheartening.
Like Sesera said, short of just not casting there was no more I could do to control my hate. The tank was not struggling to generate hate, they had felt that one or two enmity combos was enough and then felt tank dps combos with having actual dps stop were more efficient then an extra enmity combo (didn't even have to be done in grit).
It's no different then a dps stealing hate and running around away from the tank while still dpsing and then criticizing the tank for not taking the mob back sooner. It is a team effort on all sides and it goes so much smoother when when the one party doesn't just expect the other party to carry the weight.
I did a run of Doma Castle yesterday as my BRD and holy crap was it slow. The sad thing is is that I'm partially to blame for this. Both the SAM and I still had our Shire weapons, the tank pulled small groups, and the healer never dpsed. It was so different from what I'm use to when I run as WHM. The run took like 30-40 minutes.
I love watching RDMs do that, lol. My FC does maps every Sunday and usually our DPS is usually all RDMs (mostly because melee in the canals is no fun and RDM is really fun) and every single week at least one of them flips off a cliff. ... The other times someone is Rescue'd off a cliff.
Is there some special advantage to not turning an AST sect? Because I'm not seeing it. I have an alt on aether and my cohealer was an AST in sigma 3.0 normal. Never turned it on at all and yet kept using aspected helios.
Like I said in previous pages, I hate it when my cohealer is an AST. They either don't turn on sects or overwrite my cards.
Ohhh, the cards are the worst sometimes. You'd think them letting us see what cards each other has would help keep people from overwriting them, but no. Some people just completely lack situational awareness.
Makes me think of a good Duty Finder story though:
I was running the Alliance Raid Roulette back when they removed held cards from the status bar. Both my cohealer and myself were playing AST, and we managed to keep from overwriting our cards by letting each other know when we had a good hand up and ready. We eventually had it down to where we could keep necessary buffs up almost constantly without voice communication or the ability to see one another's cards.
It felt great to have some coordination with another healer instead of fighting them for once.
I have to admit I forget to turn on a sect a lot. Sometimes I've just switched to AST from another class, sometimes I've just been in a lower-level dungeon that deactivated sects, and usually I'll only realise when I've tried casting Aspected Helios a few times and I'm wondering why the regen effect isn't activating....
Did O6 as a tank for the first time. Decided to OT because reasons. Didn't get any heals from either healer while the ghost lady was beating me up.
I died of course. This happened to me twice so I'm convinced that those healers didn't like me :(
Which is perfectly understandable. However I kept reminding this person, twice, throughout the fight to turn their sect on and they never did. I had to choose one on the fly as the tank was pulling (mind you this alt of mine is mostly 330 gear, they had better gear and either had no situational awareness or just flat out ignored me despite having the better gear to heal.
I'm like -_-
Sometimes you just get those instances where you just can't win.
Was going down the list of my daily roulettes as WHM and decided to mess with my glamour a bit right before the leveling roulette. Finish that, queue up and get Berdam's Mettle. Get ready to protect everyone and realized my bars are all screwed up. I'm missing most of my spells. One of my party members mentions I'm currently a CNJ. I face palm irl, tell them it'll be fine but I just need a second to set up my bars. They're cool with it and we manage to clear the place without wiping.
I felt bad about going in handicapped but it's nice to see easy going people in the df.
Can we post about pvp in here? I mean I guess pvp is also in Duty Finder but not sure if it counts. O_o;
So, we started off with four Bards then one of the guys were like, "Not enough Bards."
... And then this happened! @_@;

RIP I was the only one who didn't have a Bard leveled yet. >>;
But meh, whatever, ONWARD TO VICTORY, BARD SQUAD!!! I'll heal you with my scrubby Vercure heals!!!! +fight
