Anyone who threatens to kick if their select set of rules aren't followed is a degenerate.
Unless you are holding the group back while not communicating or trying to improve, there is no reason to even mention kicking someone.
Yuck, I'm sorry you wound up with a group like that. It sucks that some people can be like that. Fortunately there are plenty of other players out there who are patient and understanding with new players, and will sometimes even offer to answer questions and give advice if you want it. While I can't say you won't run into other troublesome players in the future, most of the time as long as you let everyone know from the beginning that you're new to content they won't get on your case about it. At any rate, I hope things get better for you and you can continue to enjoy the game!
I have a request for anyone on my data centre.
Over the last few days, my FC group has been a few bodies short for Byakko so we've been using the PF. In an attempt to be a bit more lighthearted and friendly, I often put the comment "That one party that says it's a farm and probably won't be."
Please stop making the damn thing a self fulfilling prophecy and blaming my group for when you keep dying to Sweep the Leg and Fire and Lightning.
I've been leveling a WAR alt on Adamantoise, and have a couple of stories:
#1, Brayflox Longstop: Reasonably smooth run. I kinda wanted the extra chests (new toon, so not a lot of gil to spend on gear), but the SCH I got for a Healer made it abundantly clear through actions (running ahead, once even pulling for me) that s/he didn't. Made it through without a wipe, but I really wasn't impressed with how impatient the SCH was.
#2, Stone Vigil: Went pretty well, had a few miscues on early pulls (it's been a good while since I last ran SV), but no wipes through the second boss. Then between the second and third bosses, I messed up a bit on the first set of ice sprites resulting in our dps/heals getting a few blizzards in their faces before I got control...and finally the hum-dinger: I do the second to last pull, which started with one set of sprites and 1 or 2 aevis - not bad in itself, but then I notice what looks like another aevis patting up, so I pop him with tomahawk to prevent trouble...turns out he was part of the final pull of 3 Aevis. Oops - wipe. Group was cool about it, tho. :)
Oh, almost forgot one: Haukke Manor. We load in, I go for the first pull...and the healer bails. After waiting a minute, I ask if we want to try to keep going (there's a RDM in the group, and at the time I didn't realize that vercure is only available at a very high level), so we do. We wiped on the next pull, but were ahead in the kill count, and got a healer to finish with. Good run after that, tho I didn't do so hot on Lady A's adds (finally got 'em on me and we burned her down afterward). Really wish people would bring adds to the tank when they spawn, tho - makes things so much easier.
Other than that, pretty much every group has been anywhere from good to fantastic, tho I did have one person fall off on Titan Normal...not to landslide, but to standing in the red zone when he jumped. :)

Do you talk to your groups? Reading you here, it sounds like every time someone doesnt play the way you want them to you shirk them and let them die. If youre talking to your groups about what not to do, then this is probly fine(aggressively douchey, but fine). But if im in a group and no one is talking and i just suddenly get hate(which is rare since i use my enmity tools, but it still happens from time to time), i assume that the tank sucks not that i made some mistake i need to learn from. If your solution to every "problem" you see in a DF group is to shirk and laugh, please unplug your internet connection and stick to single player games. Or better yet, move out into the woods somewhere and live off the land so that you never have to deal with other people who may not be perfect like you again.
I mean they can shield you inbetween pulls, Regen while getting mobs yeah is annoying but Shirking them just makes you look like an entitled baby no offense "wahhh Shirk everyone who pulls threat even for a split second" even though it'll literally take 1 AoE threat move or you can cover them and you'll take all the damage but hey, guess they gotta die. Maybe you should use your tools instead of using them to kill others over pettiness.
Been working a bit on a WHM alt over on Coeurl and got to Doma Castle a few days ago.
Loaded in, cast buffs, and I already figured it was gonna be a typical Doma run (big pulls and so on). I immediately noticed that the tank didn't put a stance on, but I didn't say anything as I figured they would notice. First pull, I burn every heal I had, and get a "great healing!" from the tank. Still no stance, so with that compliment, I began thinking they were just doing a challenge of sorts.
Second major pull before the first boss, they realized they had forgotten their stance. Thankfully there had been no deaths during either of those pulls and they surprisingly kept aggro despite it all. Overall, it turned out to be a fun run, especially after the disasters I've had to deal with in the past.
And with every good story, also comes a slightly bad one too.
Then got to Castrum Abania yesterday, and things went decently well until second boss. I'm not sure if one of the other DPS were new as well, but every time the second boss did his "Cup Runneth Over" move, they never went into the element spots and constantly died. And at one point, I had no MP from raising them, trying to keep the tank alive, and having every MP regain skill on CD (having to even resort to using Thin Air just to get the other DPS up at one point and have a few seconds of natural regen). I have never liked Abania in general, but I definitely now appreciate all the healers that have to deal with that dungeon. Especially when it suddenly gets really messy.
Or you could, you know, communicate to regen users (since ASTs can apply both regens and shields, depending on what sect they feel like using), to not to throw out a regen during a pull. If you just shirk them on first offense, that's just terrible on your part and you become a problem. Maybe that player hadn't been told before not to regen during pulls - I certainly wasn't until Doma Castle.
Oh sorry just seen the messages here and replying from my phone now: yeah I communicate to the party, I usually ask people to not do that but when they are total d***s I Shirk them. I know I can't go abusing of it so I just use it when people totally get on my nerves on purpose AFTER telling/asking them to not do that.
Never sit, there two penalties you can face with that choice. The sit action is recorded in the chat log and can reviewed by a GM later. They could wait out your idle timer for you to get the penalty.
I use a controller and rubber ban my toggles together, this causes me to run around in a circle. No chat history, no idle action timeout.
I want to act surprised that there's actually RDMs out there who use almost exclusively their melee skills, but at this point I really can't be surprised...
Yeah, this doesnt really surprise me either. I wish it did. Red seems like just about the easiest class to learn and play at a "proficient" level. I always wonder if these types of people are purposefully being trolly, or they just legit dont get how things go together. Like, did you never cast any of the spells to see how much damage they do? Did they not read what their level 1 trait does? I remember once a while back i was running a dungeon with an FC group(if i remember right, hullbreaker hard... i know it was a level 60 and believe it was around that timeframe). My BLM was paired with the BLM of another guy(one who usually tanked, but we had another tank along so they went for damage). Since it was an all FC group, they decided to mess around. Tank was doing odd pulls, me and the healer were playing it more or less straight, the other BLM announces that theyre going to try being an Ice Mage for awhile. So they did that for a few pulls... maybe a boss fight... then decide to try the even more rare varient, the Thunder Mage. That lasted half of one pull. They were so bored and so tired of doing minuscule damage that they switched back to being an actual Black Mage, and we finished the dungeon by melting things. That half a fight must have been truly painful, as there was no AoE thunder at the time. So they applied their one useful BLM DoT, switched targets, rinse and repeat for the 30-45 seconds it took them to come to their senses. Knowing how painful it was for them to play that poorly, i often go back to wondering about the people who legit do it wrong all the time. Once you know how the puzzle looks with all the pieces, i cant imagine most people being happy with just some of them. Eh, but what do i know?
Fun little story got a wanders palace while leveling up my DRG, tank tried to do the first section in one shot did not work out so well. After said wipe mommy and daddy wanted to pull the mini van over so they could have a little fight. It truly amazes me how some people get so salty after one wipe, though the truly amazing part was the thing that got them to stop fighting each other was when the other DPS and I just moved on ahead without them. They ended up using some fairly colorful language towards. Today I learned one thing that can bring even bickering tank and healers together is when DPS move ahead without them.
They got upset because we did not want wait for them to finish their so called discussion. Some people truly confuse me.
Last week I needed like 90 tomes to cap. Instead of 2 Experts, I decided to run 3 skallas since I still am hunting the tank gear that I think was removed from the loot tables. When people say that people just "highlight the bad runs" and ignore the good ones, this is for you. This is right after I finished my expert roulette and Hells Lid took 32 minutes because of a NIN you couldn't believe unless I showed it to you. Full i340 and some i350, less than 2k dps overall.
The results are as follows:
Run #1:
https://i.imgur.com/eZnHEt6.jpg
Both DPS are approx. 320 ilvl. The healer is approx. i310. Good WHM.
Run #2:
https://i.imgur.com/lmIMRkF.jpg
Man, this run really drained me.
All 3 players were approx i330.
Run #3:
https://i.imgur.com/EMuYxKT.jpg
SMN was i340. SAM was i300 (weapon and most gear). SCH was i310.

Almost took me as long to clear on normal as it does on Savage...
Well you can still wipe a few times and not, and it still be a net gain. But that's just semantics lol.
As an experienced tank (and mDPS) I'm fairly good at judging ilvl into translated performance. I make mistakes, they almost never lead to wipes though. I can't recall the last time I wiped in a dungeon.
It is possible he knew that the tank who was not even stance dancing was doing the most DPS? I mean hell, I know I've asked for tether as a PLD all the time. In my Hells Lid example up above the DRG was giving it to the NIN and I said you're MUCH better off giving it to me. he obliged.
I'll admit my style for dungeons as Red Mage/Black Mage is a little different.
For Red Mage I'll spam Scatter on mobs - to have largest impact of AOE with as little cool down as possible - and Ill throw in the fancy fencing spells you can fire off <conte? and that other one> - When its single targets ill spam Jolt/(redflower?) - when my mana gauge is 100/100 - I'll go postal with the spin attack which is insane damage to mobs - and if its a beefier monster ill start weaving black/white magic with dual cast. A typical Red Mage behaviorism I tend to "peel away" aggro like crazy off the tank which causes some challenges - if i kick the damage any higher ill end up attracting more attention to myself - but it works - and I don't get any complaints either - I still rank pretty high on the aggro generator behind the Tank so I try to be careful. (Likely due to the heavy ended Crit I melded into my Red Mage/Black Mage)
As a Black Mage ill spam Flare/ThunderIV/III with swiftcast/tripplecast wrapped in appropriately - The Tank these days is ALWAYS MOVING - so dropping anchor (leylines) to start weaving foul/fire IV/Blizz IV - is a waste of effort at best unless I'm sure I'll be there long enough to be worthwhile. So you'll see me go full bore at boss fights. I'm not the most efficient Black Mage..but I get the job done.
That said... Red Mage Arguably is the easiest caster really - and for people to do just fencing doesn't make any sense at all. At full enchanted status they do serious damage....other wise its just a bust. Half the time I wish the fencing skills would be locked out - but there are situations where a weak attack would be worth while at best.
So yeah...totally confused on that.
When your family suddenly shows up at your door without warning to wish you Happy New Year but you're in the middle of a Deltascape V3 run so you had to leave and force quit the game. I'm sorry guys!!! T_T
I just had the worst Aurum Vale session with my PLD.
So first of all I hate this dungeon and I had terrible memories of it when I played DRK (it was horrible).
So first room to first boss goes well except for that one BRD who wanted me to mass pull ? I said no because mass pulling in this dungeon is a death sentence. But this guy decided to aggro mobs I wanted to aggro, after the pack I aggroed.
Then I decided "Oh you want to play that game ? here let me aggro these ones too !"
He also thought it would be funny to stand behind me when fighting mobs with AOE attacks....I let him die :)
Anyways, the rest went well, got two comms and blacklisted that annoying person (to stay polite).
Also please...if you're a bard, stop aggroing before tanks do
DO NEW PLAYERS UNDERSTAND MEDICA II?
I don't expect players who are new and level 50 to be experts at their job, but there was something I noticed yesterday...
I did trial roulette to grab the last 10 tomes i need for the week. I ran as WHM and got Big Keep. My cohealer was also WHM and I noticed almost instantly that they didn't have any idea what they were doing. As soon as 2 people took damage they would spam Medica II. They would cast it like 3 times in a row. It was... confusing. They did this though out the fight.
I then ran 50/60 as PLD and got Wander's Palace HM. My hesler was a WHM and they NEVER used Medica II. They would Regen everyone individually instead of just casting Medica II... It was really weird!
Both were sprouts so it's kind of understandable in a way but... It's just so weird.
Yesterday after seeing all these threads about unlocking Balmung, I decided to dust off my Balmung toon to check how it goes on US servers and maybe to come back (I play on J). Logged in, got a "return player" status, queued for a Trial Roulette on WHM, got Steps of Faith. Well, should be a standard run. Zoned in, no one said "hello" or anything apart from some guy from Adamantoise who was mumbling something about Lalafel in his pants. Well... Then there was a 5-min discussion who will go for cannons. No one wanted to. Half of the raid was asking - who will go, another half complained that they wouldn't do that.
After about 6 min into this discussion, I logged off and went back to Belias.
Weird experience, I'd say.
Uhh... to be completely honest I feel like most healers I encounter now have no idea what they're doing. My first guess is jump potions. They heal the way I healed when my FC was like "we wanna mount farm! Mandar yer the only one with a healer" (I am SMN main. I did the 30 quest to unlock SCH and never touched it again). And then was expected to jump into ramuh and keep people alive who didn't know mechanics. I just jabbed green buttons and prayed they did something useful. XP But that's in a premade, with friends who very obviously realized I was in the middle of a learning curve. I don't know what excuse these other people have lol, but I don't think they should be making random people suffer with their performance.
I'm now at the point where the only jobs to get to level 70 are now my tanks and healers. Trying to get WAR to 70 so I can ding into my Byakko's axe.
i200 equipment. SMNs that don't Bane or use DoTs. BLMs that don't use Enochian, the mighty DRG that doesn't use Blood of the Dragon. People that don't AOE on speedpulls but insist you speedpull. Me being top of a parse on bosses. Just a few highlights I've had on the way from 64 to 65.
Every single time I've just bailed on these people and done my beastman dailies during my downtime. I don't regret it for a second. I have an instashing now and I'm going to abuse the hell out of it.
It's nice when team mates are on the same page as you!
My first time in Sohm Al (Hard), playing as white mage. Both the DPSes went down very suddenly during the first boss fight. Obvious choice is to raise the summoner, get them up to full health and hope they're ready to cast resurrect on the other guy...
Sure enough, a few seconds later the monk has a raise status icon on them.
Everything is back under control. Thankyou summoner! :D
PoTD maybe? One thing if they want to finish a level, and another if they just spam it 1-70 or 60...
I had a worst leveling run in a while, got Toto-Rak and I don't even know how many times we wiped. I don't consider myself a great tank, but I thought I was doing okay, and my friend was depressed too at that point. The SAM just ignored all mechanics, dying to all dooms etc. First thing he did was run in and pull the boss before we were done with mobs, getting locked in, and the whole run pulled despite me asking not to. Boss dying so slowly made me notice between the rare Cure WHM was just standing there. I can understand that if you need every bit of mana, but it was uncalled for, so I asked them to help - and what they did was come close and autoattack. No Stone was used that run (at least they used the DoT and were a nice person)
I had this issue when learning how casters work here. In non-mmo FF, the spell designations work a little differently. Numbers denote potency, and are largely single-target unless the base spell was a target-party spell. So I used to spam cure 3 a lot thinking it was more like Curaga instead of a slightly more potent proximity aoe heal. Man did I gey schooled. LOL.
I had a WHM in Doma Castle that refused to ever not have Med II up. They wouldn't spam it, but they'd use it every 30 seconds. Even if nobody else was hurt. They'd also do it at the end of a pull, and if I paused at the boss, they'd do it right before the pull.
It's a terrible regen that drags uneeded threat unless everyone is injured. The total potency is the same as Cure II as well so why not just... cure II?
Had a lv 57 lancer not dragoon a LANCER in the Vault. I left that place so fast not even exaggerating.
Did a Hell’s Lid run and the White Mage died to every boss. Me as a summoner had to raise them and we wiped twice on the second to last and the last boss. :)
A new positive story.
Got Wanderer's Palace normal as PLD. Party was a MNK, WHM and BLM.
At first I'm anxious about this dungeon because of the giant chasing tomberries, and the mass pull you have to do in order to get far from it.
I told the party it was my first time tanking in this dungeon and that I would do my best. They reassured me saying stuff like "Don't worry go at your own pace." or "You'll do great."
And the MNK who had 2 tanks at 70 gave me advices on where the big Tomberry spawned and how to manage it. The dungeon went very smoothly and I was able to mass pull without a problem.
At the end I got all 3 comms, compliments on my tanking from the MNK and became friends with him. So MNK buddy if you're reading this (as well you too WHM and BLM), once again thank you !
Not DF but...
Me exploding the skull too near a melee on the last run of a aim-to-clear for O8s for forsaken 3.... god that run, if we made no mistakes is definitely a clear T_T.
So I've been leveling my WAR on one of my alts, just to get her a tank, and I just did Doma Castle.
The run from the start was "rocky". I died doing the first double pulls. I popped every cool down but the SCH just could not keep up. I wasn't mad. The SCH was 70, so I assumed they could handle it, but I know that the mobs start hitting really hard in Bardam's ownward. They apologized and said they just didn't know where all of their abilities were. I asked to be sure if they wanted to try again. They said yes. I was willing to go slower, my gear is mostly up to par, with just the chest piece still at 270, everything else is either from Bardam's or DC.
I do the Golem pull separate. I've seen people do the golem and the last two, but I always feel it's needlessly difficult so I do that one alone. We do the next pull and I die again. This one we save though, I tell them to run back a DPS brings me the adds on the way.
The first boss goes fine, and the adds go fine. I pull the big armour and the two dogs... Cept one dog glitches and gets stuck up top. I laugh as we kill it with ranged attacks (I'm a WAR, the two DPS are DRG and SAM). I don't do anymore double pulls, just to be safe and we get through just fine.
The second boss... We all end up being shot around the room like pinballs. No one dies. I'm just chuckling to myself. I make a few jokes about it and the healer says they thought it was funny. As I'm making jokes, one of the DPS runs ahead of us and pulls the ninja's that drop from the ceiling.
But we kill them and the rest of the adds just fine.
It's when we get to the last boss that I realize the DRG is new, they watch their CS and me and the healer use /charmed at the boss, and the SAM dotes at him. I took a quick screenshot cause I thought it was cute.
Then the fight begins. The DRG gets all of the prey proximity marks and obviously has no idea what to do with them, leaving them near the group each time. So I'm just skirting around trying to position for the upcoming aoes from the floating death circles.
LB2 pops and someone uses it, then the proximity marker pops again. I pop the gate things so that the dps can move it away but they don't, and so the healer and me run away. Both dps stay and keep attacking the boss though.
It was so hilarious when the bomb went off. Both DPS died AND the fight ended.
I was just laughing so hard. Despite it not being the smoothest run, a little banter in the chat made it such a fun run.
---
Also, last night I think I experienced a bit of karma. My I've been leveling WHM on my other alt and I was 59, trying to get to 60. The queue was longer than my vault queues had been. I got a tanking in all ironworks 120 gear, cept for their rings, they had the level 30 brand new ring, and a ghysal ring which I think was 40 something.
I literally could not stop healing them or they'd die. I had to keep regen and medica II up constantly. At first it wasn't too bad but then they tried to do double pulls, one one they didn't get an add off of me so I died, then they died while the DPS finished the adds.
During the first boss them and one of the DRG kept getting hit by the aoes. The DRG said they were lagging.
Second boss didn't go so badly, and neither did the last one, we did the demon gates properly and everything, though at one point the "laggy" goon left their orb in the middle of the room and everyone, except me, just stood in it.
Why is this karma? Last week when I started leveling my WAR on the other alt, I went into Sirensong sea with a level 40 ring and the brand new ring. Most of my gear was 270 though, and I'd done it before just fine, I was hoping to get the ring from there so I didn't have to buy it, but I went to run it again, and I tried to do the double pull as I had before, the SCH couldn't keep up with the healing. I apologized and mentioned I should have asked if they were ok with it. I looked at their gear and noticed it had to just be about the right level, but they looked at my gear and were like "Your gear is not good enough."
;; I was so embarrassed. Like I said, I'd just done it before and had no issues with the other healer, and I didn't want them to feel bad about it, or feel like I was blaming them. I didn't mind doing the single pulls.
After the second boss they pointed out my rings again and I was just dying, though I did explain light-heartedly that I had been trying to get the ring from there. I already had a ring for when I leveled up a couple more levels.
XD At least the rest of my gear was the right ILV though... geez.....
Keeping medica II and regen on the tank usually helps me dps more as WHM... but to keep it up all the time >>; That's just silly...
