I hoped I'd never have to post in this thread, but ever since I decided to make WHM the first class I'll reach to cap, the DF community has decided to throw every poor grouping habit at me at once.
My short time as SCH was great. Pet to heal the lite wounds, me keepign up Galvanize b/c I have too much mp and already cast DoTs. No big pulls and if it were, wasn't bad. Did Brayflox like a champ.
The following 5 Guildhests were nightmares once I switched to WHM. NO ONE protected me as I'm being heal slave for a tank that pulls all the mobs in the room. I quickly learned and mastered swiftcast combos and presence of mind. Mana management is useless as it's pump tank until everything is dead. While I could say something to tank, everyone wants to rush (plus it's a guildhest and I needed to see this rush style as a healer). I died on the Maraboro heist and the one with the many elven archers in the woods. Tank refused to flash adds and dps were both blm. instead of sleeping adds, fire1 to boss only. of course we wipe...
I'm like "pffff... just a bad day. One more Brayflox. It will be different."
DEAD.... WRONG!
2 noobies (tank and dps) and a THA that wasn't too good at his class which made things bad at the start. We barely could clear the beginning mobs. Tank had trash armor and was very new, so I cut her some slack. She at least listened to advice. I starting having to sleep adds but the dps (DRG) without fail would wake them and never attacked the mobs the tank was targeting (even when they were marked). THA dcs after we wipe on the first mini-boss. We get a BLM with experience. He's helping me teach these children. 7 wipes, and 17 rezs later I was so sick of the dps never listening to advice. I was running out of mana trying to keep him up and starting prioritizing the BLM since the dps loss was minimal with the skill gained by keeping a better player up. Tank was starting to get some flow but never could hold aggro nor pull hate from off me (the healer). I could waste swiftcast to cast repose on a mob that is chasing me only to heal someone and pull 2 more mobs (while the dps would wake the mob chasing me). Halfway through I told the DRG that I wasn't going to heal him when he wakes adds. I didn't have the mana to cover him and a lowbie tank. He doesn't heed my warning and dies on salamander miniboss (he never pops the bubbles. Even the tank did that much when we told them all the details before engagement.
Then the DRG gets an attitude and it's all over for me. Talks about how he could have done more if I kept him alive (this train of thought continues to the boss after wipe 1). The BLM is like "Man... this guy". I basically tell the DRG that this run is completely community service. I didn't need the xp, it was late, and he was either 1) not learning or 2) choosing to be dick. I couldn't kick him b/c I wasted my vote on the guy who dced (didn't know about that wait). DRG continues to mouth off and I continue to tell him he is the most unappreciative jerkface I've met. Too ungrateful. Tank actually did well on our first boss attempt. I ran out of mana as she didn't dodge enough AoE attacks and didn't have enough ethers to support her and then a dying group as everyone had some form of dmg (plus I was really unlucky with freecure).
DRG is the first to die (... idk know why either. I think he was standing in poison pools) and starts to complain that I didn't rez him (...with 147 mana and we were super close to killing the boss). 2nd attempt was a success but hardly better. DRG using LB before other 2nd gauge was even close to halfway (boss is at 80% life or more). I pretty much spammed ethers at the start. Admittedly I think I did better on the 2nd run. Got luckier with freecures, and used PoM to knock out status effects right after a freecure. Everyone was healthy (including the boss as the tank didn't position them too well).
Worst run of my life. Still like WHM... but man is SCH so much easier. I probably should have left the group the 2nd I found out the tank was new. But I was new not to long ago (but I'm a quick learner and have played all the classes at least up to 30). I'm nowhere near elite, but I'd hope by 30, you learned the basics of your class and group play. Guess I was wrong.
Got a comm, a battlemage tunic and a severe headache from that run. Will do it again though. Them instant queues rock too hard.
