Thanks for clearing that up. ^^

I will never play Hrothgar (unless the ladies come at some point) but I am here to voice my support as well. It is unacceptable. People that still make excuses for SE are in deep denial. They HAVE the money and they could have the teams. Also saying that they need to focus on one problem before solving another is just........ I am pretty sure that the people making hairstyles arent the ones fixing the housing bugs.
The sad thing is, Us Hrothgar can wear it... And it just looks creepy.

I'd like the XIV dev team to show us concepts of hairs, & give us a panel & let us vote on hairstyles made by the XIV artists to be added in game.
I want Hrothgar AND Viera to have unique, brand-new hairstyles created for them
F. Viera have quite abit of concept art & examples that already exist that the artists can reference from.
To also be clear: If adding mog station & event related hairs removes their ears or removes any features that the races have, design unique hairstyles for them instead & fix the existing hairstyles to fit correctly & show their ears after.
I also want more hairstyles for the other races as well.
I want long hairs, curly hairs, braided hairs, NPC hairstyles (Fran, Gaia, Venat, Emet-Selch, Hythlodaeus, Yugiri, Hien, etc.)
Again, No. The races don't have to share hairstyles if it means rushed & poorly designed hairs. (they shouldn't look rushed or poorly designed regardless but that seems to be the normal that we are dealing with)
I do not want hats if it means Viera getting continued ugly hairstyles (like the vanilla ones added)
Yes, Rainmaker is an ugly af hairstyle.
I'd much rather have helmets/ headpieces designed for Viera/Hroth rather than forced to fit them.
Hey everyone, thread creator here! I haven't posted anything much because I mainly made the thread to not only show my frustrations with what has happen to Hrothgar but to hopefully make it so everyone who did have a problem had a place to go to express frustrations with this... and it worked!! The thread would've probably been created at some point but it doesn't change the fact that not only has this thread become popular enough to get the attention of content creators but even the FFXIV team has seem to take notice.
It may have only been a fraction of the voices speaking about this but every voice and opinion mattered and at the very least we got their attention which is a good thing. I personally don't know how hard it is to make the ears work even after seeing what people say here or on other websites. I'm not saying "maybe its too hard so its not a big deal" because even if the ears did work I don't think most of these hairstyles look good for Hrothgar to begin with, with the exception of the Pulse (Snow from FFXIII) hairstyle.
I would've been fine with 3-4 hairstyles at the most if they were of quality. I'm sure some people have ideas of what they want and we should try to express interested not only for ears for hairstyles but also what hairstyles we would be interested in. After all if they see the thread we need to speak up what type of hair we want to see because complaining without a show of "what we wanted" will probably not end well.
So without Further ado in terms of hairstyles I like to see for the Hrothgar I have only two in mind at the moment that I think would fit the race.
The first one is the Wind Caller hairstyle which you can see on Lyon from Bozja. This one is not only one I would enjoy but I believe a good number of Hrothgar players would like as well. I think it fits the race with all the hair and the bandana adds something to it all especially since we can't wear most hats anyway.
The second one is a bald option, one that removes the mane part. I think this would be fine for Hrothgar mainly because the races more masculine have bald options, Roegadyn and Hyur and it would work as I think Hrothgar falls under that too a degree. The other reason is just to replicate other types of cats of our world like Panthers, Tigers and Cheetahs (Heeeey my character name) and I don't think Hrothgar would look too weird without the hair on their head being gone since our skin is fur and we have fur patches.
Anyway that's all I wanted to add (friend linked me the Zepla video saying the thread I started was in it) I'm now going back to PVP because aside from the Hrothgar stuff this patch has been really great ^^
Sharing this again because I spent a very long time writing it up and reviewing what I wrote, and I really hope that even one of the developers or designers ends up seeing this. Also, are there any realistic methods of having feedback possibly seen besides the forums? This doesn’t seem to lead to much, so either more avenues of communication are needed, or more community managers should be hired or assigned for this website.
Nope. Just here.
I can also assure you that we'll never be taken seriously. The fact that the JP side of things got a housing update and we got nothing being an indicator of this. You can try and claim easter but in the end Square's JP side of things also has translators so that argument's a little moot.
We will always - and forever - be neglected. It has always been this way. JP users who insist otherwise be damned, all one needs to do is look at their threads and see how many crowns they have beside their thread icons to know this.

Yep, Square Enix is becoming Bethesda. Release a half-assed product and expect the modders to fix it.

I just saw how this looked on Hrothgar. :|
I know.
I'll say it here. I don't get the problem they have with these things. "Oh but we'd have to refit it to every race, that's not very productive". Uh-huh. You know you already have the bland textureless face model for Hrothgar snouts, right? Just set it to black and bump up the reflective node a little (Blender has that option literally right there, I assume 3DSMax, Maya or whatever program they use has it too). Cut out the actual sauron-looking head piece around the Hyur face and plop it in. Boom, done. Implement it as a metadata change for Hrothgars. Of course I'm probably simplifying the actual process, but it's nowhere near any more complicated than that.
I can't wait to see an image of a mod suddenly show up with that exact same process, just to make it even more poignant.
Was mostly asking because I don't remember Square ever changing stuff for other races. The real issue is that now they have a race that very much defies the stuff they make, yet they still won't budge. And to make it weirder, the problem isn't even Hrothgars squishing their faces to fit, it's that they'd look at this and think "Yep totally will fit me, a lion man, and not something that already exists in-game with a lion face on it".
The more I read through this thread, the more depressed i get....
most Hrothgar players at this point:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Ftdu8yrKOw
Now you know why people got that upset over the hairstyles. People didn't just have to endure 3 years of this, they were paying attention to everything around the races and people coming up with better explanations than the devs, as well as solutions\fixes to these things, with nary a word from official sources.
Still. I just hope this thread is the beginning of more fan support for Hrothgar, really. I feel like that's what's been lacking the most from our end, and obviously without that, Square won't know what to care for and what not to. Because we don't know what sort of filters they use when checking fan demand, but we do know it was incessant shouting that led to Viera as a whole being implemented, as well as Male Viera and Female Hrothgars even being considered. For better and for worse.
Spicy Take here:
No, they don’t - at least not at first
See, there’s a problem here. And it’s partially the driver behind this thread and the complaints megathread. I was bandying about the idea of Hrothgar having a hair “flag” that would shorten the length of the hair in the back on some faces if there was a problem with clipping*. And the reply I got was “yeah, but then everyone would want it.”
I agree. I think they would. But that uproar wouldn’t happen if there were some transparency. Any transparency, really.
Square has a real problem with “not yet.” And if a new feature winds up working on Hrothgar or Viera first for a bit, so be it. That doesn’t mean they’re not gonna come back and implement it for the rest of the populace later - they’re almost guaranteed to do it since that’s the majority of the population.
But if a helmet is implemented for Hrothgar or Viera first, that’s ok. I think a lot of what’s been slowing progress on things like Hrothgar and Viera development has been “that If I do it for one, I gotta do it for the other,” and to some extent you do, but do you honestly think that Viera getting a bunch of hairstyles and Hrothgar getting a ton of headgear because one race is easier to implement for than another would be met with cries of bias and unfairness or rather a sign of progress that people were doing Something about it.
So if they implement something for one race before another, so be it. While I am mad that Viera not only got hairstyles that aren’t buggy, clip* with themselves, had more than 8 times the options starting out (32 if you count ears), a whole new gender and then got 6 more options and we got some kind of glandular condition, I’m not going to beat up a Viera in a Denny’s parking lot because I begrudge them that.
1) Good for you, O.G. Viera and Man Buns.
2) I will never be angry when one race gets something and I don’t and you get around to fixing it.
3) What I want to hear is developers say “not yet” more often and I want you to mean it. These new hairstyles were so awful you guys were so ashamed you wouldn’t even show them to us from the side. Or any more than two weeks in advance.
Is it too much to ask that you *either* take pride in your work or just unlock the whole kit and kaboodle and let *us* decide what’s clippy* and awful and doesn’t belong on our heads?
*OR* how about you show us some love first JUST ONE TIME so that you show you designed something Hrothgar first. Just once. And then implement it for everyone else. Because that’s fair.
*clipping is only an excuse when you acknowledge it’s already happening and I have no way of stopping it.
I feel like the devs just got fed up with all of you and decided to let off some steam.
And what did we do so bad for them to "let off some steam"?
We also pay for this game like everyone else, so I don't think it would be such a travesty to ask to be treated with the same amount of respect as everyone else.
Especially since the Hrothgar players were the ones who have waited patiently for 3 years and trusted the team. Unlike the male Viera crowd who were sending death threats to the Devs. So why were they not letting off steam on you guys as well, if us respectfully waiting was a reason to "let off steam", why wasn't the male Viera the catalyst for "letting off steam?
I swear people like you are either a troll coming here to berate people about a subject they care about or a massive Hypocrite, cause you know full well that you would be rightfully angry if this happened to the race you play.
I made a petition for YoshiP to spend a month/PLL as a Hrothgar. We’ll see if it does anything.
https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...ar-for-a-Month
If nothing else, it amuses me. Feel free to write a “me too” if you agree or leave it alone if you don’t.
Not to start a flame war or anything, but then they would've let that steam off at the wrong people. Most Hroth players have been patiently waiting because we're aware we're niche, it's the other race that's been loud and demanding all along. That's probably why now Hrothgar players are raising up, many just got fed up with playing nice after everyone else got what they wanted.
This is the part where I'd joke about putting on the Karen hair on my Hroth, but amputating my ears just for that would go against the statement I'm trying to make lol
