Great to hear that people are still using our Route Planner! We recently jumped back into FFXIV after a few months on hiatus, so Pomwreath Gardens is actively running Airship again for 3.4
I'll see about adding in the remaining details for Sector 24 first thing tomorrow!
Edit: Route Planner now has the full distances and adjusted times for Sector 24
After so long finally saw a SS rating

Hi All, I've been away for a while and lost track of the best configuration for the airships. Does anyone have a good recommendation for an airship build? I'm more concerned with having good rewards per trip than having a fast turn around.
You need to bring up surveillance and may need to create more ship parts or buy them, you can also ask FC to sell them if they are used you can trade gill for them. Example I maxed out surveillance and got sectors on 1-3 runs. Also some times it's a RNG inthelong run your going to need some duplicate parts so might as well start building. example Bronco hull
From our own airship explorations, I can definitively say that character level and FC size don't affect it! While some still think it's a superstition, raising the Surveillance stat of our airships seemed to speed up discoveries by a huge amount (typically within 1-2 tries per sector).
I decided to go with:
Tatanora Hull
Bronco Sail
Tatanora Forecastle
Tatanora Aftcastle
If it makes a difference these are the stat differences for you.
Mixed set
Surv 138
Ret 126
speed 54
range 84
favor 150
Tatanora set
Surv 120
Ret 140
speed 50
range 140
favor 120
They're fairly close in most respects except range, being able to hit more islands each trip was what decided it for me. However I haven't done the math or run it enough to have an idea of which is better (or if it even makes a difference).
That would be unfortunately. I just finished building the third part, I was waiting for the airship to return to install it. ;( Oh well, time to gather more mats then.
This has all the current parts on it, so make sure to go to the ship builder tab on that document, ensure the ship you're editing is set to rank 50 and then you can adjust the parts to see if they'll all work. You want to be at or below 61 build points. Good luck to you, wish I had managed to catch you before you started building, I know those parts are costly!
Thank you for that but I tried using it before; the formulas weren't working in excel or open office when I downloaded it so I went hunting elsewhere and missed checking the capacity for that build. I've got more than one airship I need to build up so its not a wasted effort, I'll either use it on a different ship or sell it on MB; either way I'll get use out of it. ;)
Hi, I just want to say Thanks for all the useful information, I'm almost done with my first Airship that's almost Rank 50 and Iwas just wondering if anyone has any recommended builds that I should use for a first Rank 50 airship?
The most annoying thing once you have a rank 50 airship is needing to unlock all the sectors. This just takes time and repeat voyages the key sectors shown on the air route map. I recommend an Enterprise Hull and Tatanora/Viltgance propellers and whichever Fore and Aft castles fit within your build points limits after that. This way you will have a fast, reasonably long range ship to do the sector exploration unlocking.
That's worked well, but there are still runs that come back with crud. RNG rules the skies I guess. Working very slowly on building a faster ship, sacrificing retrieval for speed (swap rigging & aftcastle types), but I have no experience with it yet. In theory it should bring back the rare items quicker, but less of anything that you'd get in stacks. We'll have to see what the expansion holds soon for airship parts.
Any new sectors in 4.0? Any new drops? Let's get some screenshots going!
If I remember correctly, Yoshi said there wouldn't be any more updates to airships. There "may" be something else along the lines of submarines coming. Since it wasn't at launch I don't think it will be before 4.1. But who knows...
I was just wondering the last time this was fully updated? It's still my go to guide because it's so complete, was just wondering what I'm missing cause I wasn't in charge of these until recently
I think nothing changed ..
Did some missions since SB and no new items.
I think the first few posts are about 95% up to date. It doesn't have the last sectors added to it or some of the drops from the last two patches of HW but there's been no large scale updates really. There's a post a couple pages back with the added sectors if you need them. I also remember someone talking about hosting a google doc with updated info as well but I don't know how up to date that is.
But I think you're correct in that the OP isn't updating this anymore.
Neither of us are, really. I am back, sort of, but if I have the time to update a guide, it'll be my desynth guide. Though, if someone else wants to post updated information for the graphics in the OP, I have edit access to them. I just don't have the time to do the research necessary to update them myself.
so how does Wind effect your airship returns? None/High/Turbulent
what exactly does Surveillance/Favor provide for end game retrievals?
That information is in the first two posts. Wind effects are a modifier for your success rate. Surveillance gates access and "in theory" increases your chances of finding things. Favor is rumored to increase chances of HQ and/or more items. I don't think there's been any rigorous testing to determine how the stats perform though.
guys can someone pls help me and give me the best Airship Design for materia farming pls
You will want to basically use the Frugel Frighter design from page 1 of this thread.
I personally use these two designs:
- Enterprise-type Hull
- Bronco-type Sail
- Tatanora-type Forecastle
- Odyssey-type Aftcastle
- Invincible-type Hull
- Bronco-type Sail
- Tatanora-type Forecastle
- Tatanora-type Aftcastle
The first design is faster but returns the same amount of booty as the second one. RNG of mission success is a bigger factor than the ship design.
To both of you my spreadsheet is 100% up to date. If you want to update OP's post you can just copy the information from it
My airship just hit rank 50 and it's all Enterprise parts at the moment. I've been farming Sector 13 for synthetic resin and I've only gotten ONE in like 10 or so trips there. Is this just bad rng, or is my ship just not good enough to get that item?
I've had bad luck with getting resin too; I think it has a low drop rate.
So my enterprise ship should be able to get it, and I'm just having bad luck?
New items have been added as of 4.1, one of the items is strongly hinted to be "Cloudsbreath", you need 8 of this to craft the new flying chair mount.
Yes Amariel, you should be able to get it, just bad luck.
I'm willing to be Cloudsbreath will be in sector 17 or higher and probably a rare drop so who knows how long this will be to find. 21, 23, and 24 is where I plan to focus my attempts on.
Sector 17 on the Cloudsbreath confirmed.

Going to be checking other sectors as well.
Confirmed: Cloudsbreath Seeds in Sector 20.
