One thing I'll never understand from players that HAVE TO GO FAST here is that nobody seems to know you can literally skip every mob in that underground tunnel section if you just walk. Yarzons and those spirits all aggro based on "sound" so they'll ignore you if you're walking slowly (although I think they do aggro if you walk right in front of their face).

I've also skipped the first group of mobs before, too. You can get around them and down into the rooms pretty easily.

Let me vent a bit now.

Can anyone tell me why when we ask the healers and tanks to do "Safe strat" in Grand Cross Delta you react as if someone killed you family? Why you react as insufferable assholes when a tank or healer ask you for use Safe strat? It is not affect DPS jobs, only healers and tanks, and you will not gain or lose DPS for that. TO the po9nt of leave the party if we agree to do the safe? What the hell, how old are you? 5 years old?

What the hell, it is this the new "skip soar" or what? Why are you so mean with this to the point of abandon a party for this?

And please, save your "you gain DPS for tit". Tanks and healer contribution in 3 seconds you can hit in uptime does not worth the risk.

Got Hauke Manor and one of the sprout dps didn't know what to do after 2nd boss after we spend 2-3 minuts explaining return he ends up exiting the dungeon by mistake after using it.

Well, never seen that happen before, but sounds like maybe they were trying to get the yarzon into a position where you wouldn't have to fight the wandering spirit? Maybe? I don't know really.

Ah, I haven't used waymarks or enemy markers before and wouldn't have thought of it in the middle of battle. I should practice a bit with that.

You'd need a co-ordinated group for everyone to know they should walk and not run! Plus I'm not sure that it would save much time? The fight never lasts long, and you get good EXP out of dungeon monsters - which is why I'm there in the first place. (I'd be happy to fight more optional enemies, not less!)

Skipping the first mob is, again, about player expectations as much as whether it's a good strategy or not - and while I can't replay exactly what happened, I think it was that our lancer had run forward expecting to attack as usual, but the tank veered off down the stairs instead of engaging with the enemy.

Plus with a new player in the party, I'd feel that it's more important to do the dungeon "properly". And since we did wipe on the first boss, we would have warped back to the start and had to creep past those enemies a second time, possibly solo.

That's my best guess. Doesn't seem worth it to me for avoiding one small enemy, but whatever works for them.

Hate when someone is pushing 1 button every 10 seconds. It's understandable with a healer.
A lot of healers never think about doing anything but keeping the party alive. In lower level dungeons that means they get huge downtime doing nothing. Just cast 1 heal every once in a while.
With dps it turns dungeons into 45 minutes. When they go the whole dungeon with large amounts of time between every action it's frustrating.

Straight Shot <-> Nothing for a long time <-> Straight Shot
Fire <-> 10 seconds of standing doing nothing <-> Fire

Unless you’re referencing a different “safe strat”, the only safe strat I’m aware of asks for the DPS that have Off-Balance/Beyond Death to disengage and stack south with the healer that has Shriek, and I believe both tanks have to disengage as well. Unless there’s another version of this strat. I’m only aware of this version, and the standard uptime strat.

It’s unreasonable for people to get overly hostile about asking to do the “safe strat”, but uptime is the standard in PUG groups, so if you are regularly pugging v4s, I would definitely recommend learning the uptime strat just to save yourself any future headaches.

EDIT: Looked into it a bit and found another where DPS don’t disengage, just the tanks and healer with Death Wave. That being said, I still recommend learning the uptime strat. Since every job in this game is just a glorified DPS with either a tanking kit or a healing kit.

was in rabanastre and during rofocale's ultimate where you're NOT supposed to stand in the middle (yet everyone still does??), had one of our healers rescue me into the middle right before rofocale landed. popped sprint, ran back to the edge and gleefully watched said healer die to the ultimate. :')

Random story.

Did expert today and landed in the latest dungeon we got (the name escapes me), and the tank dies during one of the massive trash pulls and he goes, "oops, used ld (living dead) too late." And the healer asks him if he was new and he apologized and said that he bought his account. The other dps then says he was going to ragequit if there was a death again. We clear the dungeon. The end.

Funny thing about that is the only time I've died to it (aside from people not killing their add) is when a friend told me you could leave the middle but didn't specify which direction to go. You need to run perpendicular to the path he's taking. If you just run away but in the same direction he's going, he still kills you.

You take a lot of damage in the middle, but if everyone is there it's really easy for healers to pop protections and Sacred Soil makes it entirely survivable. That's why most groups still do it: suboptimal or not, it's reliable. In a DF alliance raid, that tends to be sufficient.

The heads at that section will break aggro and reset after you get far enough out, and the balance at the end can be activated without tablets, which just causes a group to spawn. In other words, you can skip 3 groups for the price of 1 group at the end of the dungeon.

Safe strat on Chaos means the healer and tank simply stack South instead of North-West. :)

But I haven't ever seen anyone complain about someone asking to do that. As a DD, in my opinion it's 100% up to healers and tanks and what they're most comfortable with.

A regen is sufficient to get people back to 100% if it's popped(as in Swift Cast) right as he stops and points in a direction. I tend to take less than 1k damage when I run to the edge, sometimes less than 500(of course depending on how fast people killed the adds).

Was just in expert with a preform it turns out, their tank would tank 1 add, pull small and let the rest of the party tank the rest, and not even try to pick the rest up what so ever, I tried kicking him before I even knew they were a preform it failed and they kicked me instead..I'm worried as to why they let their friend reach 70 as a tank without teaching him anything and then taking him into a dungeon. I will say this, thank you for kicking me haha.

Yes. Exactly. It is a thing that do not affect DPS jobs. And the uptime for tanks is a very low gain on DPS, few GCD that won't give anything. Also, higher risk for the party.

If a party is advirtised as some kind of farm/experienced group is it not fair to expect your clear(s) in the most efficent way possible? I get using some kind of safer strategy for a fight that is still being progressed but for something like current tier Savage that has lots of players very experienced with the mechanics you'd think it would be time for a speed over safety sort of mentality.

I don't have the full story. If this group was advirtised as a prog/learning/clear party then sure use the safesty possible strategy but it doesn't sound like that's the case. If people want to be annoyed at a lack of efficency (or, god forbid, leave the party) I don't think they're being unreasonable.

I have to agree with Moro--if the PF was for farming V4S, the idea is usually the farm as quickly and as efficiently as possible. On Aether, uptime is the standard strat; and while I can't speak for other DCs, I still recommending learning how to comfortably do all the strats, uptime included. It saves you the headache if the group decides to do Grand Cross Delta a specific way. I would recommend the same for GCO with practicing dying both to the first (healer friendly) laser and dying to the third.

I disagree that uptime is considered "riskier" than the safe strat. Both have equal amounts of opportunity for mess-ups. I've seen both executed flawlessly, and both were someone was stacking where they weren't supposed to, and killing a bunch of people. But that's my personal opinion. I guess it isn't weighed as much since I'm usually running V4S on BRD, though I am learning how to heal it whenever I feel inspired (almost healed through the entirety of Exdeath~).

All that being said, I reiterate that it's unreasonable to lose one's marbles over wanting to do a particular strat, even if it's the norm. But people do have the right to leave if they don't want to do safe strat over uptime. Same for vise-versa.

So Copperbell Mines with my GLA. No problem I kinda like this dungeon.

Got paired up with 2 newbies as a healer and a DPS and they were doing a wonderful job....but the bard on the other hand.

You know what Bards do right ? They aggro before you can. And you know what's cherry on the cake ? He had all tank jobs at lvl 70. So methinks he should know what kind of emotions I'm going through.

I told him to stop and he said "I wanted to see how good you were =)". At that moment I knew I was going to blacklist him. He aggreed to stop but of course he kept on aggroing everything before me and messing things up.

It amazes me, how when we pop for the Chrysalis fight and there's only one bonus, players still don't know/disregard staying out of the tear long enough for the blight debuff to drop and to toss out whatever buffs you can for the party before you eventually get sucked in. I wouldn't really have much of an issue...except those same players complain that they end up dying inside of the tear due to bleed debuff and sometimes from tanking a meteor with me. Looking at you, healers.

That's precisely the reason, why I toss a quick MedII shortly before we get sucked in... too many "lol we 70 we imba we faceroll dis" groups. One of the few old trials where I still see at least one wipe because either people herd pop bubbles (the more the merries, riiiight?) and happily stack their debuffs to 3+ or people equally happily keeping their bleed debuff and running into meteors.

I realise that in hindsight, and I think again it comes down to miscommunication. If he'd said at the start "I'm speedrunning" then I would have known what was going on, known he definitely wasn't new and confused, and just done my best to keep up.

I was just trying to be helpful, but I won't be doing it again if someone else skips that section.

So yesterday i decide to try again some O2S training for the 4th day in a row for, who knows, finally beat it. Yes i know i am kinda late for that, but i usually am not that much into instanced content anyway.

I join the only training group available as the 7th member, the 8th member join some seconds after me. Looking at the composition of the group i see some strange players names who feels like jokes or trolling. A bad omen i think, but whatever, i am gonna ignore that and still gonna stay to see how it is going.

I quickly say "E/NE dps" because i did learn that if you do have a position you are used too you had better claim it quickly so that it doesn't get stolen by another player.

Others start saying "A", "C", "B", and such... Wait, i have seen some groups not putting the letters in the same place, how is this right ? Isn't it better to use fixed directions like E, N and so on to not screw up the fight ? I ask the question and get an answer like "A, B, C, D are always clockwise, somebody doing differently need to have their brain checked". Ok, another bad omen, but i am still gonna stay.

Positions all given, and... uh what ? All dps are north for the phase where the boss launch us in the air ? Every video guide and every group i did come by were putting tow dps north and two dps south in the corners to not overlap. I question that, half expecting to be kicked to be annoying by making too much remarks, and am told "it is gonna be fine !". The 8th member say something like "i am looking forward to see that ! XD", apparently exepecting to see all dps die. Another another bad omen... but i am still gonna stay.

We begin the fight and quickly someone (lets call him XYZ) die. I see a "Rezzing XYZ... I whish i was dead too" dark humor macro. Another another another bad omen, especially that every death and thus dps loss make it hard to not reach enrage, but oh well, i am still gonna stay. It isn't today that i will finish O2S, but at least i will get more used to all the mechanics.

The fight goes on, with some other screw ups. Wait, despite them isn't the boss life bar depleting quite quickly ? No time to look into further, here come the launch into the air mechanic, all dps north aannnndddd... wtf, we didn't die at all. Okay, i was wrong to be worried on this one. The fight still goes on, with even more screw ups, but the boss life bar is indeed depleting quite fast, and we end up hitting enrage at 4%, a way better result than all the attempts i did except one which was at 1%.

At this point i was like "wtf his happening ?".

A few tries later, with people getting a bit more concentrated on what they were doing, i did get my first O2S clear with a group that looked at first quite strange and worrying, but was in fact very good compared to the ones i was in before.

Seems like bad omens can be misleading sometimes.

3 dps viewing cut scences.2 of them were sprouts.
Their lvl were around 58 - 64.
“I think I know where this is going” I told myself.
The fight had started,almost needed 3 jumps to finish the first outer shell or back whtever its called.
Then double sanuwas’s time.3 newbie dps go for the green,I went for the blue.
The blue one died while the green got around 40% even with both healers’s help.
And yes,enraged got us.all I can do is real life /facepalm.
This is because I’m not good enough.
I can carry 1 dps or 2 dps through the fight but I can’t carry 3 dps.
I’m so sorry mother Hyd...Hid...er... Hydra.

Pro tip: yelling at people for messing up mechanics (especially if they can be salvaged, albeit in a very short time span) in the middle of a busy fight does not do anything but stress them out. You will not make them perform any better.

(I just got out of a stressful Omega 1.0 Savage run where the WHM was getting super mad at everyone for not being 100% perfect. This is just a small vent. ;u; )

Last night I was helping a friend from another server to get some stuff from V4N. We queued up with some of my FC friends. So, the fight started normally. I was focusing myself on tanking and one of my friends noticed something odd. We were on Discord and he says "The SAM is spamming AoE moves". Indeed he was. His DPS was roughly 1k. He was also eating all the AoEs of the universe and died a lot. The healers stopped raising him and said "it was a waste of MP if he wasn't going to cooperate with DPS".

The SAM said what was wrong with that. Well, spamming AoE moves on single targets is kind of self-explanatory. The SAM said "Why does it matter" and got offended because he didn't get resurrected. The whole group pretty much said "If you're playing with others, put some effort into it, it's a team." I almost cried. That was a first, no one was defending poor gameplay for once.

POTD. Tank and healer with the same last name. I'm on WHM and there's a MCH.

MCH uses Manticore on last 2 floors and kills everything. We are at the cairn when a kick vote commences and the MCH gets kicked out. I ask why I get this:

Me: Why
Tank: Manticore
Me: So
Tank: I'm tank
Me: I repeat, so?
Me: It doesn't matter
You have been dismissed from the party and the duty.

Where do these superheroes come from?

"everyone north" is a very common optimization strategy in o2s. The reason being that when the ranged tuck themselves into the corners of the northern safe zone and the boss is in the middle of the safe zone, everyone can be in range of the boss without overlapping any of the aoes. In addition, everyone should be in range of cure 3 if needed, and will definitely be in range of all aoe heals without the healers needing to go out of their way.

Now, that doesn't mean they weren't in the wrong. Either they're self-important, or they're ignorant. When you take pugs, you need to be aware of pug strats. The first reason is so that you know what you should be doing if you're the pug, and the second reason is so you know what the pug in your party is expecting. If you're a party of 6 or 7, realize that the other player(s) will be expecting pug strat, and explain what you're doing different before you just start going about your business.

I'm personally going to go with ignorant, in their case. I'm guessing that some raider taught them this method and they're mimicking it because it's "obviously the only way to do it". Reason being is because they even reached enrage at all. My group has had weeks where we have like 8 dps deaths and we still nap the clear 20 seconds before enrage. In fact we don't even do that "all north" optimization. We were too busy progging 3 and 4 to talk about 2 and we just kinda settled.

Everytime someone types something along the lines of "WTF U DOING?!?!?! U STUPID?! DO U EVEN KNOW THE STRAT?!?!?" in the party or alliance chat, I'm eternaly grateful that we have such a treasure of a team player with us. Now everyone not only knows what exactly they did wrong but they also know how to do it right - not to mention they are now calm and collected enough to perfectly execute what they have just learned.
I also like to show my gratitude by votekicking them if they don't get their shit together within the next few sentences. Can't have them die of a heart attack, right?
Party/ alliance chat is no place to vent, let alone insult.
There is also a very special place in hell for everyone who just bows their heads and keep quiet when witnessing something like that instead of making clear that this kind of behaviour is unwelcome and uncalled for. Sadly, this kind of cowardly behaviour is pretty common.

I decided to do an Expert roulette and it put me in the Drowned City of Skalla. When the instance started, I checked the gear of the other party members. The healer and one black mage had mostly 310 stuff, including weapon. Not too shabby. The other black mage had similar 310 gear, but was using the i260 anima weapon (probably for gaining light for their anima.) I said "nope" in my head and left the party immediately. I used another one of my characters instead during the 30-minute penalty.

Friend and I have been queuing into it mostly for giggles at this point just to see how bad groups have become. We were treated to a Ninja who quite literally died to every single mechanic. He either wouldn't move out of AoEs or got cleaved by simply running around in a panic half the time. At one point, he actually stood beneath the Rock Hammer mechanic, proceeding to explode. In just three fights (counting Hashmal twice due to a wipe), he amassed ten deaths. Maybe he was a newbie? Not only were there no first time announcement, but he had full 340 melded except for one ring.

Vote kick went through pretty quickly. :D

I'll just say this: most people know Weapon Damage accounts for most of the dps output and that duties of a newer expansion do not give light or points to a relic from a previous expansion for completion. Those two explanations along with many slow 30+ minute Skalla runs I've previously experienced are the reasons why I decided not to take my chances this time.

Dude you didnt give the run a chance, or even ask them to change to a better weapon, and instead bragged about going on an alt because you didn't want wait 30 minutes to eat the penalty that you incurred on yourself because you didn't want to risk a 30+ minute run. Where is the logic in the statement?

Just a short one, but I queued for Skalla on my alt as SMN to try and get new gear. Once in, tank asks if he could have the casting body if it drops. I say probably not since I am still gearing up on her. I thought he was okay with it since he said "aight", but I was wrong. He goes to say that there isn't any reason for him to be there then, so he just leaves after first boss.

I found that pretty rude. Shortly after we get a new tank and clear without any trouble. The casting body didn't even drop anyway however pants did which I did grab. Should've went as a caster if he wanted it so bad...

Edit: Wanted to add that they also could've used a premade party. Can't expect a DF party to pass all the time for you.

valid. though, i know i've forgotten to switch back to a level appropriate weapon when i've been light/density grinding. i wouldn't have minded being reminded to switch if i had been the one carrying an old weapon.

I was debating if I should ask that person to change to a higher-level weapon, but I've had too many experiences where people don't want to do that, even when I asked them to. I just didn't want to have to deal with arguing with people over small things anymore.

Also, I believe that the BLM with the i260 anima weapon had intentions of getting light. I believe you don't get light for Anima Weapons from completing Stormblood duties.

To set a precedent, the duties from Heavensward didn't give points for the light grind portion of the ARR Zodiac weapons. This is to discourage people from using lower item level weapons and instead progress through leveling using higher item level weapons.


Edit: On a brighter note, I just completed a smooth Skalla run that was completed in less than 20 minutes. Everyone was well geared, teamwork was on point, and everyone appreciated each other's efforts in the smooth Skalla run.

Dude you didnt give the run a chance, or even ask them to change to a better weapon, and instead bragged about going on an alt because you didn't want wait 30 minutes to eat the penalty that you incurred on yourself because you didn't want to risk a 30+ minute run. Where is the logic in the statement?

The logic is that he didn't want to spend his time dealing with what was clearly an idiot in the Duty Finder and by extension enabling the behaviour.

I do the same thing, minus the alt. I refuse to argue and raise my blood pressure with terrible players and the white knights that accompany/defend them.

Makes perfect sense to me.
