I'm glad the story had a happy ending, but how in the world do you get to Sohm Al and not know how Aetherflow works? It's the simplest form of "push button, receive bacon strips + MP" ever. The tooltip is pretty clear on what it does too.
Trial Roulette
Good King Moggle Mog
OT continously DCing every 3 minutes without fail.
Clear the fight just as he returned from his 10th DC and he got the Kingly Whisker.
Salt was plentiful
Ripping on myself, leveling up my NIN to get to 70.
If anyone was in my PT and feel like my damage was lacking, I'm sorry. Between goading the tank, smokescreen the healer, keeping Armor Crush and Shadowfang up barely being able to Aeolean Edge while dodging aoes, I can't help that when I see myself 3-4 on the threat list, it feels I'm not DPSing hard enough. My gear is NQ and dungeon until I get to 70 and get some good gear on it. I'm used to going full force on SAM/MNK that it has spoiled me, going NIN there's more utility than I'm used to.
I’m done trying to farm ShinEx. Why are these PFs so bad. >.>
Been trying to farm it all day so I can at least get totems to buy the weapons for AST/SCH (barely can care about the mount right now), and can’t even get a group to get past first phase.
I’m just done. Not worth the damn headache anymore.
Here's one....moral of the story before the details: Make sure your cables are working properly and controller battery charged before going into a dungeon!
Details: I'm on PS4 for the record. I was going through Shisui of the Violet Tides with a Duty Finder party. We got through the second boss, and then all of a sudden, I got notices on the screen that my controller battery was low. Thinking that was odd as the USB cable was plugged in, I kept chugging on......only to be stopped in my tracks because the battery went out. I barely got two messages: "Stand by. Battery issues", and "Sorry" before I had to log out to try to switch over to the PC (Not sure it can run Stormblood). Obviously, it was too late to stay in the party, I did get kicked. But, after 10 minutes, I found the USB cable wasn't working so I switched it for another and I think it started charging the controller.
On that note of ranged not sticking around for goon tethers...
Yeah, that's my DRG leveling summed up right there. Some even actively running away.
Even now, when I ran an expert on it for a change, cue the ranged (can't remember what class, was 3 days ago) sticking to the maximum range. Stuff like this is why I have 2 separate Sight macros: target #4 (or other in 8-man), and target closest ally.
At this point I'm just waiting for someone to say "why aren't you tethering me?" from 18 malms away.
rabanastre, last boss: i was going to place a sword in the corner (which tbh i find my alliances preferring, so i just do it), one of our healers rescued me back to centre, through one of the aoes and i died bc of it. : ))) it was a giant mess bc nobody stacked the swords neatly in the middle and a bunch of people died (this is why they should go in corners! less aoe to run through!) but man i honestly hate being rescued. :/
I was in leveling roulette: Shisui.
War decided to pull multiple groups with deliverance stance. Of course, he died and whole group wiped. He then switched to Defiance and do single group pull which yielded a better result. After the first boss, he tried to pull multiple groups with deliverance again and we all died.
I said to him, can you please stay on defiance if you are planning to do bigger pull? I was playing as a dps. He then replied I can out dps you with deliverance while pulling.
I just don't bother to help anymore. If you cannot protect the group then what's the point of being a tank.
The tanks in SB dgns are hella weird like this. They think Convalescene is the only buff they need for mass pulls, they lack complete self-awareness concerning their gear (raise your hand if you had to heal a tank with overall 260 gear or lower in Doma) and when the mass pull fails, they slow it down but only because its the healer's fault, according to them.
I'm glad my brain runs on auto-pilot these days cuz if I had to care every single time I encountered such tanks, my sanity would pay the price.
I've cleared a few times but I'm afraid that I don't have the fight down enough to join a farm for it quite yet so I join practice parties in hopes of helping someone and picking up a totem....
... sounds like I should just join farms because at least I can reliably get to phase three.
Had a vault run last week with what looked to be a new player that had used a leveling potion. They were a 60BLM and only had all 3 HW jobs unlocked with exactly 0xp for each and their gear was full 60 stuff which I think you get from the potion or maybe a 60 quest. This isn't a problem for me usually, and I expected them to do less damage due to being new... But wow. Let's just say their dps was in the low double digits even though they were casting spells. As in almost single digit low. I was floored. We couldn't even finish the second boss because we just ran out of room with all the aoe balls everywhere. Tried twice before I opted to leave eat the penalty. I think they must have had all broken gear or something because they were casting fire spells, albeit with a delay between each, so I dont know how else their output could be that low.
Wow.
Last time I've seen a party almost run out of room there was when HW was just released and everyone was freshly 57 with barely appropriate gear.Oh the fun times at the last boss. Breaking tether while dancing around puddles while avoiding the malicious pony march of doom while somehow keeping everyone alive while trying and failing to remind everyone via chat they should do the same - minus the keeping everyone alive part.I honstely enjoyed the last boss but I've seen more than one wipe back in the day.
And a few on the 2nd boss aswell though that was not because we ran out of room but usually because of "let me just eat a few debuffs so he can properly wipe the floor with me"-tanks. Who were usually quick to complain why I don't Esuna them. Weeell....
Literally me when I ran Doma for the first time 2 days ago, the tank was new too so I kinda understand, but when the highest piece of equipment he had was an i255 ring, let's just say I was in full panic mode for a lot of that dungeon... Also, he said he didn't know any of the mechanics for Hypertuned Grynewaht (as we were entering the room) but fortunately we were able to simply sum it up as "DODGE AOE".
Made it through just fine though, so no problems there!
Helped an FC member queue into Doma Castle who is leveling DRG - it's been a while since I dungeon healed anything outside of expert since all my healers have been 70 for a while but I didn't think that would be an issue.
I got the squishiest tank ever.
He does the first double pull and pops Hallowed so I'm just Holying away having a great time when Hallowed ends I toss a regen on him and oh sweet jesus no his health is plummeting.
With the way it's falling and how low it is already I don't think anything but Benediction could save him and even though I know there is a delay I tried. It gets off just as his HP dips into freaking double digits. I pride myself on being able to let a tank drop low safely but there was no skill involved here, only panic and luck.
The rest of the dungeon goes very similar. I haven't played a ton of PLD and my FC member who has is busy complaining in FC chat about the lack of DPS from the SMN... which frankly I can't blame him for since I'm beating the SMN by a bit even while healing a wet paper bag masquerading as a tank. I can say it seemed like he kind of rotated CDs but the gaps between them felt too large.
He did single pulls in Shield Oath from then on. I can't fault him there, I would likely be cautious as well when a healer let me drop that low, but then he also seriously slowed down his AoE enmity generation soooo...
Yup, you guessed it, WHM tank best tank. It started as him just losing one enemy to me which, frankly, is one too many but I can manage. It turned into him losing both packs to me after the second boss. On the second pack I had to burn Tetra, Bene and Swiftcast to keep myself alive.
I don't know if he was bitter after the first pull of the dungeon (though if thats the case... really? He didnt die, we didn't wipe) or just as bad at enmity generation as he was at mitigation/gearing himself properly but whatever the cause of our troubles was I wish I recorded it now to go back and watch.
I just want to throw out a huge sorry for the group from... I believe it was Doma Castle, who had to wait for five minutes to kick me.
Not because I played bad, but because I couldn't play at all. After loading in the dungeon my controller settings were completely messed up. I told them I'd leave since I wasn't even able to use my basic attack, but even the start-button to open up the menue didn't work. I kinda paniced and more or less faked a d/c. Haven't played since yesterday, but I'm hoping that the settings are okay again and that the Windows-pop-up caused all this.
So, sorry again that you had to wait for five minutes, I really didn't know what to do.
Ran Gubal for the first time yesterday with FC party + 1 really helpful AST from DF. It was a fun run! I've just gotten Deathflare right before going into Gubal so I was pretty much learning to use it on the go and kinda messed it up a couple of times. I knew I messed up on the 2nd boss but even so, the AST was kind and helpful, offered tips for me whenever I messed up. The funniest point was when AST went literally giddy when I mana-shifted them (LOL it was cute okay). I didn't get to say thank you properly when we cleared so if you're reading it here, thank you so much.
p/s: Thanks for comm. I gave you mine too and hope you got all 3.
Leveling roulette with my friend; she's tanking, I'm healing. We get Qarn (normal) with a level sync NIN & SMN. After witnessing some erratic behavior from the NIN (running circles around adds using random skills), I chose to inspect them both. All signs of new players that bought jump potions.
First boss: Both refused to pay attention to doom and stand on the pads. After two wipes, and some explaining, I decided to let them stay dead and use my MP to fight the boss and wasps.
Second boss: Both refused to attack golem's soulstone. We marked the soulstone, tried explaining it in chat, and tried using auto-translate, but there was no change.
At this point, my friend and I were rather agitated. She thought maybe they were bots, so we tried to get their attention with "Hello?" and such. After no response, I put it plainly: "Respond or you'll be treated as bots."
"we're trying to fight not read chat"
The amount of supposed clear or "add/third phase" parties I have been in that can't make it to Diamond Dust are staggering. Counting from the time of this post until just last night, I've been in 6-7 of them and the furthest I've seen is second phase adds—where we all subsequently die. People are so damn awful at even basic mechanics. ;-;
This reminds me of a run I had in Baelsar's Wall about a month or so. I was on my RDM, and the group I was with had reached the 2nd boss. I remember what 'Extreme Caution' meant, so whenever that mechanic occurred, I would stop moving. I mean, the boss does warm you that it's activating a motion tracker. The other three members of the party - not so much. We wiped twice those this thing. So I finally spoke up and told them that they needed to stop moving.
That didn't work at all. The tank, the healer, and my co-DPS kept moving during that mechanic. I nearly rage-quit. RDMs don't have Ver-raise at lvl 60, so I dunno why the healer was banking on me doing the skill. Then they argued with me that I don't know how to do my job, how I'm such a noob, and how much time I waste with my sub by being a crap player.
Surprisingly, I didn't say anything back. Though I really wanted to tell them that i don't have Verraise at 64, my Vercure cannot keep a tank alive by myself at that level, and I was the only one alive because, hey, I actually follow mechanics. But nope...I didn't say anything. Thankfully, they rage-quit and the replacement healer and co-DPS followed mechanics. Tank wouldn't for whatever reason.
Fwiw, the tank may not have known that auto attack triggers the move too and didn't know how to avoid it.
Every so often you have that awe moment and it's actually a good thing! Such was my experience in Rabanastre of all places just about five minutes ago. The DPS was monstrous—enough we skipped the Sanuwa adds and Hashmal was at 3-5% when the golems spawned.
Naturally! I didn't get the drop I was looking for so you just know the good luck stops there. But still! A good moment after all those tragic Shinryu EX attempts. :D
Ah, I can't believe I forgot to share this particular story. The other day, did a run in Dun Scaith and I accidentally pulled the boss when I casted Aspected Helios. Guess I was too close when I aggroed him, but off we go to fight Deathgaze. I apologized, but even with the accidental pull, everybody started to attack him. Nobody should've been caught off guard by the void death...and yet, two healers from one alliance, one from ours, and a lot of DPS were killed by it. I did my best, because I blamed myself for the accidental pull - but people kept dying - either by not getting blown onto the ice pillars or by not running out of the void death.
Oh, but it gets worse. I made the call to the entire alliance to wipe it and restart. Part of me felt bad, and thankfully, the entire raid wiped it so we could start over. This is where I stopped feeling bad - a few of the healers continually got killed by void death.
The best moment of this run came at the end, where we were fighting Diabolos and we were attacking the gate. I decided to be silly and my type in chat went like this.
"Ka....me...ha...me...ha!!!!"
Next thing you know, the alliance chat is filled with comments of how we all need to go Super Saiyan to beat Diabolos. Man...that was a fun fight haha.
Tell me if I am wrong or not. But this really grinds my gears.
Entered the Df for Titan as a DRG. We have a WAR, a BLM, and an AST. The AST dies to a landslide around the time we get to Titan's heart. I had been keeping an eye on that AST because, for one, I'm an AST main. They weren't in a sect (we unlock draw and sects at lvl 30, and Titan is a level 34 trial), didn't do any card draws, or anything. They apologized and said they were new at healing, their main was a DPS and they were trying to get through HW. So I tell them that I'm an AST main, and ask them if they had their sect. Eventually, we wipe due to a combination of BLM getting knocked off, and I get trapped in a boulder. Myself and WAR can only self-heal for so long, and once I got trapped, it was a wipe.
Second pull, AST is still doing the same thing. Benefic II and Helios. There was a reason I asked if they had a sect. And as expected, they got killed by a landslide during Titan's Heart. This time, the rest of us were prepared and we downed Titan without the AST. After the fight is over and done, I ask the AST if they could stay for a bit. I told them I could teach them a little bit about AST. Their response?
They had to leave to continue leveling their main, which was a DPS. And then they just left before I could say anything. That really irks me. I'm a mentor for a reason. I'm an AST with experience all the way up to Shinryu EX. If I offer help, don't just blow me off because you were honestly terrible as a healer. I hope your queue is 2 hours long for that.
-_-
I think I've used up all my petty points for the week, don't ya think?
Honestly I'd kill for hands on advice like that when I'm playing a new class and fucking up spectacularly. I never understood the mentality of holding onto mediocrity ESPECIALLY when someone is willing to take the time to sit there with you and help you in some manner or fashion. It just seems like throwing a neatly wrapped present back into a stranger's face because the colors weren't to your liking.
So, last night, Raid Roulette. I (SCH) queue up with my gf (MCH) and we got Syrcus Tower.
Normal start, people greet each other and off we go. My tank, a DRK, had only Grit on and no Darkside. We arrive with the first pack of trash, then the guy grabs his own pack and doesn't stack them with the others. Meh, no big deal, but it certainly made me look closely what he was going to do next. We reach the first boss and another tank pulls. I see my tank in Grit and no Darkside again. I ask him "Please turn Grit off and Darkside up", then... the answer: "I DO WHAT I WANT", as I reply "Oh, no... one of those...".
My gf starts giving him advice on how it's mandatory for an offtank to have the stance off, as aggro switching is annoying for healers and pretty much everyone. He goes like "This is Syrcus tower, it doesn't matter", then he says "I'm level 59, I know what Grit does, as I am a tank". I raise my eyebrow to the point it leaves the Solar System and meets the Voyager 1 on its way out. I say again "Yup, one of those...". I tell him he's overreacting, as I was only giving him advice, but he bounces it back implying I was making a big deal out of it. No one else in the group said anything. I decided to bite the bullet. My gf doesn't at first but she gives up as well after a while. We clearly are in front of... "one of those".
We arrive to the next pack of adds, he starts turning Grit on and off constantly, mocking us, burning his MP in the process. I ignore him and we pull. We get past it and we arrive to the SECOND boss. Before we pulled he says in alliance chat "Remember to switch GRIT off!" mocking us even further. My co-heal stood up for us and said something along the lines "If you're not MTing, you shouldn't use Grit. Just saying". Then the DRK gives up and says "okay okay", or something like that.
We finished the run, the DPS overall was low but we cleared. Although a minor inconvenience but I was certainly pissed at his attitude. I comm'd the other healer, the end.
Ok I need to rant because these people piss me off and I'm sure anyone who tanks has this person every now and then. I keep getting them and it's usually a MCH or something.
I do a leveling roulette and get Qarn and just say "haven't tanked this one before". So this Mentor DRG (it's always a mentor lmao), keeps popping sprint and using a DRG ability to get ahead of me and pull. So I'm getting really annoyed because I go at a good pace in dungeons, even doing rolling pulls, I'm not slow or anything. So eventually I say "okay i guess you can tank lol" But that doesn't stop her and she /comforts me. o.O
We get to the last boss and that's ok but none of the DPS kill any of the mythril verges so it's like a touhou dodge battle.
Please stop trying to speed run low level dungeons with randos?? I'm going fast as it is, play a tank if you wanna go for world first Qarn run
Given the amount of times this has happened to you I'd highly recommend finding a friendly healer to go with you for new dungeons. Whenever I was learning to tank it helped IMMENSELY to have the second half of the power duo back me up when players were being rude and if they refused to learn then we'd just sit and wait them out. Or the healer wouldn't heal them until they got the lesson. It might help a little especially given your horrendous luck. D:
I have one rule when healing. I don't heal stupid.
If someone REFUSES to dodge stuff, they best have potions/second wind/bloodbath/some form of healing. Up to three times of eating something I will heal, but past that unless the rest of the group took damage due to an unavoidable attack and I use Medica(II)/(Aspected)Helios - I don't play SCH, so won't go there, I will not heal them.
I play a slightly different ruleset. I'll give you a couple of chances, then I'll give you a nudge saying "Hey, you should dodge stuff" by means of Rescue. If that fails, you shoot down the priority list of healing (if I'm feeling especially petty, I'll even go so far as to make sure my AoE heals don't hit you, yes, I did do that before). When they die and they pipe up at me saying "Why didn't you heal?" I'll chime back up with "Why didn't you avoid the AoEs?"
Oh and even better, I've had people die to one-shot mechanics then blame me the healer for not healing them through it. I tell them it's a one-shot mechanic and that I'm a healer, not an act of god. They usually shut up.
