Black Mage Sanctuary - A Guide to DPS

This is going to be the laziest BLM ever posting....go easy on me because I am old! I am reading through pages and pages of this and I still have no idea what to do. I know I need major adjustments because my damage isn't cutting it. I am trying to do more with melds but am farming Diadem atm. I am flexible and now that the airships are bringing back V materia I feel like I can get more stats in ASAP.

Can someone tell me some rotations to try? I have been reading pages and I really am just confused. I feel like I am moving all over the place in Midas and not contributing all I can be. I am totally open to suggestion or a friendly link to a youtube video.

With new content, keep it basic and fall back on the 2.x rotation when it turns into a dance party.

As you get more comfortable with the fights, then you can focus on maximizing your rotation.

I still try and keep Enochian up. But in heavy movement fights I tend to rely on Swiftcast B4 to do it.

I'm crap with calculating potencys lol

QS + SC + Ley > F3 > Eno > F1 > RS > F4 X 4 > F3P > convert > F4 > hq max ether > F4 > F4 > B3 > T1 > B4

I can now do this with 852 SS, it requires 12 Pie to complete

I'm unsure if the extra F4 makes up for switching out int pot

Testing it now but just a note, that opener doesn't work with Midlander base Piety + SCH in the party.

Okay, I tried the opener with the variation of F3P > Swiftcast + Convert > F4 > Max Ether HQ

It seems to be roughly the same DPS as a regular pot opener. There's of course more potency in the F4 X7 opener but it also takes a little longer. The only problem really is that the Drac pot one will synergize better with Trick Attack in a party.

Both openers have that possible 0-3s UI downtime.

Ya, I had noticed the Proc from 3.0 Sharp opener slightly outshines mine above, but I think consistency is better overall. It's something like 1.5PPS advantage for the old one where, as you confirmed, I was seeing 7+ advantage for this one.

And while there isn't time to get the FS proc in under RS, you can still get it in before B3, for a little added potency, with enough time to refresh Enochian. So that brings it even closer to the 3.0 opener with the second proc, I would imagine.

With your mini stances now lasting 12 seconds, you can Swift F3 Convert without FS proc in the F1 FS opener, netting you that extra ~38 potency. A random realisation I got today.

I'm not 100% sure I'm understanding what you mean. In the Sharpcast F1 opener with the F3P, You should use your proc first, then weave in Swiftcast, then F4, while weaving in convert. Allowing both Swiftcast and convert to be fully oGCD. Casting Swiftcast after anything that isn't an instant cast would be a slight loss because there would be a delay, even if it's very small. But I could be completely misunderstanding what you're say, so sorry if I am.

I think Det might be slightly above CHR this patch. Again, that's not confirmed and I haven't thourghly tested it yet, but just something to keep in mind. We haven't had any actual stat weight updates as far as I can see. Ariyala still shows 2.5 weights[/QUOTE]

If you don't get a FS proc when you do F4 F4 F1, you would normally Swift Flare at the end, but now that AF lasts longer, it's possible to do F4 F4 F1 F4 Swift F4 etc. instead.

After upgrading to Lore pants today, and now with 885SS without food, I can fit the FS proc under RS as well. But... a bad mana tick means not refreshing Enochian if using T1 before B4. It's very, very close, so Fey Wind would cure this I'm sure but I haven't been able to test it with a SCH yet.

So now, the question is whether or not the full opener, with a proc, is beneficial enough to push back T1 to after B4 if you don't have Fey Wind. I want to say it is, but I'm not 100% sure.

Going to test some more and see what I can come up with.

Edit: So, after doing this with a party today MP ticks aren't an issue with the FS Proc, even with T1 before B4 and no Fey Wind, as long as you have the SCH/AST PIE buff.

So I think this is the highest PPS opener right now as long as you meet the SS requirement. I'm not sure exactly what that is right now, but it's somewhere between 815 and 885. I'll try to narrow it down when I have time.

That was to be expected. No action being taken on the "original" offender (or more precisely, the first one getting caught), it just encouraged other to keep on cheating. It will continue as long as nothing serious is done, and will continue even after but with more precautions taken by the hackers

Well 2.X det was higher value then crit, and when hw came out crit was better. It will be interesting to see but because SE add a certain stat it is meaningless, look at the eso gear.... lol

I think I went a little more Crit/Det heavy, and I'm sitting at 883 SS after food so I'd be interested in trying this as well. But without physically trying (At work) and just crunching numbers, assuming you have enough SS + Fey Wind allowing you to fit the Firestarter under Raging Strikes, would put your opener at 232.17 PPS and the old Sharp Opener with the same SS + Fey Wind would be at 230.20 PPS; making your opener the most Potent. The Fire III opener would be 228.21 PPS with the immediate mana tick, and the sharp opener without the proc would be 219.31. But I have yet to actually test this with server ticks, and mana/PIE needed.

Ah, I understand now. So basically just swapping out the Flare for an extra F4. That would be roughly 1.8 PPS higher than using Flare so yeah I can see that being plausible if you don't get the proc. Only downfall would be if you get targeted by something and have to move, you might end up losing the GCD all together. But I'd have to test this as well. How much time is left on AF when you cast B3?

You are correct in that Det used to be higher, and then Crit was higher in HW. Technically stat weights can fluctuate with different openers. Stat weights can never be concrete. They can change by taking a step during your opener, the buffs you and your party use, or the order you do your spells. So we can never say for example, Det is definitively .24 no matter the situation. We can only use the numbers to come up with a very close estimate so we can at least say, "Det > Crit" or vice versa. Like I said previously, I have no concrete evidence that Det is higher than CHR this patch because I have yet to crunch the numbers, but it's basically at a quick glance after different parses with different gear sets, I'm mostly coming out higher with higher Det builds than Crit. It's all conjecture. Dervy has said he's been planning on doing stats weights for BLM for like 6 months now, but we're still waiting.

So this seems like it should be viable for practically any BLM in 3.2 gear, with SS being available on practically every piece. I went down to 779SS and was unable to land the FS while still under RS, so the threshold is somewhere between 779 and 814.

I guess the last thing to check would be if there is a racial requirement to meet the MP needed with the PIE party buff. I'm a Wildwood Elezen, for reference.

Also, this is without Fey Wind. Fey Wind obviously makes things drastically easier, but is not at all necessary.

Edit: Had a friend who is a dunesfolk lala try it out, they can pull it off without the SCH/AST pie buff even with a slow mana tick. There is 713mp left for T1 after B3 for him. As Wildwood, adding 1 PIE (via orange juice) still leaves me 2MP short so the minimum PIE to pull this off without a SCH/AST is 264.

I'm actually very, very disappointed. Like any exploit it is spreading & if there's no evidence of punishment then it encourages others. It's the very reason people are "made examples of" in criminal justice cases.

Hello, i have a few questions about blm optimisation since last patch

1) is : Sharp - fire - enochain leylines - F3 - rs xpot- F4 - F1 - F4 F4 F4 - (f3 proc) swift cast -flare - convert F4 - B3 - thunder (if slow manatik) - B4 still the best opener ?????

I saw on this thread some opener starting like B3 - thunder but it seems a bit slow to me to fit well with trick attack

2) I saw a piety build, it is worth losing so much crit / ss for extra F4 in first and second enochian rotation ? It seems tricky with manatik aswell

3) When u do classic sharp fire opener, if you use thunder and have a fast manatik, you'll lose mana on blizard 4, and you wont be able to cast thunder / b4 right after B3 with 264 piety, how many piety would i need for always being able to cast one of them ?

I have 1017 ss and dont want to lose it.

The lore gear is garbage if im fully decked out ill be hovering at roughly mid 800 range.

Bit while im here I've currently been opting out f3-f4x4 b3 rotations.

Sans 6 f4 and 5 when you can squeeze them this 4f4 seems easier and is less stressful, someone parsed me during a sephirot ex enrage, thought I was cheating because I was neck and neck with a monk without foe.

Any take on the one I currently use or is there better?

I am Dunesfolk and it only leaves me with 5 MP after B3. The opener has been working well for me thus far into 3.2. It is pretty tight at 840-900 SS and you will have to use the F3 proc sooner and/or lose time to cast T1 if mechanics force you to move. If that happens you can lose out on the 6th F4 cast but when you can pull it off you're getting 6 F4's under RS. I am on PS4 so I haven't been able to test with a parser. I would like some feedback though if possible.

My friend told me BLM statweights have been found out. I don't got the source but I vaguely remember the numbers.
WD= 9.98-
INT=1.000
DET=0.17 (around that but which BLM cares about det anyway)
Crit=0.22 (or 0.24?)
SS=0.44

I personally think the SS is considerably higher than the truth, but the overall order is likely accurate. The user also states that he uses a simulator he coded and isn't certain of it's accuracy. Still, it's a good general guide line and the best we have right now.

Yes, the PIE requirement for the immediate cast of Thunder in the Sharp Opener is 264. I'm base 263 which puts me at 270 I believe with PIE bonus.

So I went home and I did some further testing and plugging in numbers, and also updating the templates I have my with current spell speed and cast times. I made a slight mistake calculating the numbers yesterday. Assuming your SS is high enough to execute the opener you have been using (including the firestarter) then in the old sharp opener, Thunder would receive the Raging Strikes buff, which bumps it up slightly.

These are the results I've come up with and are more accurate with 3.2 gear: Sharp Opener (No Proc) = 217.65 PPS, Sharp Opener (With Proc) = 225.17 PPS, Your Opener (No Proc) = 228.37, Your Opener (With Proc) = 230.68.

Your opener without the proc versus the sharp opener without the proc is a difference of 10.72 PPS. The reason there is such a big difference is because of the Potion delay. Your proc'd opener vs the proc'd sharp opener is a difference of 5.51 PPS. Reason for this being, the Sharp opener with the proc actually makes up some time being able to fully weave swift and convert separately bringing them slightly closer. Yours still edges out, so I will definitely add this into the guide.

The only downfall I can see with your opener would be on certain fights. Let me explain. You precast Ley lines in your opener, which moves Enochian and Raging Strikes down the list a few GCDs, which will mean that you have to be pre-positioned before the pull, like A3S for example. However, if you can't be pre-postitioned, you put yourself in a spot where you can't execute the opener to its full potential. If you swap Ley Lines with Enochian or RS, then you risk Enochian falling off, or RS not being up for your FS and potentially the F4. However, in the other sharp opener, you are able to swap Ley Lines with Enochian if you have to move after the pull and still pull off the full opener. We should be catering our openers depending on the fight anyways, so shouldn't be too much of an issue.

This is slight variation on the Fire III Opener and I know of quite a few BLMs using Fire III to start their opener. 264 Pie is required to even be able to cast B3, but regardless you will always have to wait to cast Thunder if you open with Fire III (Unless you spec a ton of PIE, but I'm not sure of that number). Using the same SS and formulas as above, the opener you described would be at 220.49 PPS. But that is only if you get the immediate mana tick after B3. It could also potentially drop down below 204 PPS depending on how long it takes to get that mana tick. You can coordinate with your party to pull on the server tick, but thats tricky in most situations unless you have a static that starts a pull macro exactly when you need them to.

I also assume you meant Sharpcast instead of Surecast. If I could make a suggestion that will be slightly more optimal. In your opener you use 4 X F IVs and then double weave swiftcast and convert under Firestarter. With our SS, there will naturally be a delay, especially if you have Fey Wind or Arrow.
What you could do instead would be: LL - F3 - Sharpcast/ENO - F1 - RS/Pot - F4 - F4 - F4 - F3(Proc) Swiftcast - F4 -Convert - F4 - F4 - B3 - T1 - B4. This way you can weave swiftcast and convert both under instant casts, having no delay

Tested quickly with 850ish SS and it's almost exactly two seconds. You get changed to UI3 before you reach the last second of AF3.

I seemed to totally miss this, but isn't this exactly what I was talking about? Replace the Flare with an extra F4. Ley is also used one GCD earlier during pre-pull, which saves like 0.5 seconds during the opener, but you will lose one F4 Ley cast after the ice.

Thanks for the feedback garotte. Yes I had meant to type sharp cast. I've been trying to find a more current opener detailed in this thread but I'm having trouble. I see F1 - F4x4 a lot here but I'm kind of confused on the entire sequence. Are people using 1 stack of astral? I don't imagine they are. So if you could explain to me some alternative openings; I would appreciate seeing an exact layout of our options.

having leylines before fire is a waste because you precast it, saving it for right after enochian allow you to get a F4 under leylines on next fire rotation (at least for me with 1070 spellspeed)
In both of my opener, RS covers every Fire4 and xpot cover everything aswell except for the last Fire4
It looks like F3 opener, but the difference is you can always cast thunder if you have at least 264 piety

I didnt try it but it might cover everything with feywind

Well, this is kinda what we've been discussing and trying to narrow down and similar to what Waliel was talking about. Your oGCD usage at the beginning might be more optimal, but I think we'd always be better off casting 2 F4s first instead of 3. Reason being is, you're fishing for the proc. If you do F4x3 > F1 (procs) > F4 > F3proc > Convert + Swiftcast > F4x2, then you are double weaving Convert and Swift under Firestarter which, with our spell speed, is impossible without delay. Especially with Fey wind. So the more optimal way is to go F4x2 > F1 (procs) > F4 > F3proc > Swiftcast > F4 > Convert > F4x2. Now you gain extra PPS because you save time on oGCD usage.

Edit: Actually, I've started testing this, and it isn't actually a waste because the longest animation lock we have by far is the Potion. So double weaving a potion with any other oGCD takes alot of time, even under Firestarter. Casting Ley Lines immediately before Fire allows you to double weave Enochian + Raging Strikes and then weave the potion by itself under the F3proc. I'm sitting at 849 SS before food currently, and I was able to do all 6 Fire IVs, the Fire, and the Firestarter under Raging Strikes. This only works if you use the Firestarter last. The only issue with this opener becomes placement and movement. Its very tight. First it will have to be a fight where you can pre-position yourself since you're casting Ley Lines first, and second, any movement can really screw this up.
Everything everyone has been saying is great, and I'll be taking a very close look at every idea the rest of this weekend and update everyone. I have yet to update my current guide yet after 3.2 so that's what I'm working on now.

I truly appreciate everyone's feedback and discussing this stuff here is great for the community. I'll update with my findings by the end of the weekend.

So far, he has:

• T1/T3 DoT Tracker
• Ley Lines Tracker
• Enochian Tracker
• Mana Tracker
• Will be adding Astral/Umbral Stack Tracker soon

Is there anything else that's not on the list, that he also needs to be aware of?

Yep, I agree with this completely. A good BLM has always adjusted the opener to fit the fight, and this would be no exception. That said, I don't actually have to use Swift to pull off the opener with my current SS with food at 921. Even without Fey Wind, I can now get it done in plenty of time. So this would be one way to adjust for movement or mechanics.

With Fey Wind, I'm pulling the full opener, with proc, and still getting B3 and T1 under RS if Swift is used. When I don't use Swift and get a proc, I'm doing F1>F4>Proc>Convert>F4>F4 and still hitting everything before B3 under RS. I haven't tested this without Fey yet, though, so not sure how it would go.

And if you have Fey Wind, you can easily swap Ley and Enochian as I am refreshing Enoch with 4-5s left even with the proc which would allow for positioning just after the pull.

So far, I'm really enjoying this opener. It's fairly fluid and, as you mentioned, not having to try and double-oGCD the Pot makes a significant difference IMO.

I've been testing this as well. I'm pretty crit/det heavy and sitting at 889 SS with food. I'm cutting it really close, but I also think that has a lot to do with reprogramming muscle memory. I still have some other variations and oGCD uses to test, but it's looking like this might be the best 3.2 opener. At least without doing some crazy piety builds or anything crazy like that.

Obviously snagged the legs for the first lore purchase, but is anyone else thinking about putting off that chest for the forseeable future? Problem being the prototype chest is hot garbage too.
