Just yell out "search for clues" first. Anyone who hasn't tried it once will inevitably not realize that there are clues if they come across the chests first.
Well, it was a PF I joined, so I didn’t really have a say in the matter. It wasn’t just the SCH either that kept messing up, just the one that stuck out the most in my mind. It’s been a few days, so I don’t remember the specifics anymore. I’m more amused at how, running Labyrinth of the Ancients these last few roulettes, so many players still get wiped by Ancient Flare. I just kinda got to the point where I will not rez anymore because players end up dying to it when he casts it a second time.
That reminds me of one of my runs there today. We were in the forest and I saw a tank was pretty much under half HP while boss was about to cast her vine tethers with mindjack in effect. In my mind, I absolutely need to heal this tank, even though I know I won’t need to worry about healing until we’re done with the tethers. I don’t know why I started healing the tank – I had an easy mindjack: Forward march. The tank apparently had moved enough that when mindjack finally went off, my forward march was in the direction of the corner thorns. Naturally, I wipe, and the DPS tethered to me wiped too.
I never felt so embarrassed in Deltascape as a whole until today.
The group was calling for a wipe after that. Well, shoot, actually, any time somebody ended up dying before the caves, there were calls for wipes. Even just one death. That group wasn't going to clear anyways. I dunno why tanks love to play with fate by not mitigating Critical Hit. It's called Critical Hit for a reason. No amount of shielding that I give you is going to protect you if the crit damage exceeds your maximum hp even when I have you completely topped off.
Had an interesting Shinryu run yesterday. I believe all DPS and one tank were new but no one said anything except for maybe one person after we wiped twice. I'm partly at fault since I didn't really ask to see if people needed an explanation, but I was hopeful we'd get it the third time. Nope. After watching everyone still constantly standing in stuff and rezzing for 90% of the fight with my co-healer just working our butts off, one of the tanks who hardly used cooldowns during Akh Morn calls me and the other healer stanky and says it's our fault for making him late to a dinner outing with friends, then leaves.
So I'm a stanky healer now.
I'm in party finder right now with a healer and another dps. We had a tank, and started 50/60 Roulette, but he DC'd and didn't come back, so we spent 10 minutes doing a perfectly synced triple Manderville, summoning pumpkin heads and popping champagne :D
Not really an awful story, but a half funny half frustrating one. I get in a farm party of Susano Ex with [Duty Completed] selected, meaning everyone in the party had cleared it. We start and one of the dps just pops all the electrocution on the party. We clear anyway. Happens again, someone calls him out on it. He then said the worst (best?) fake excuse that I've heard. Not 'I'm lagging' or something like that, no no, he said:
'Sorry, niece is distracting me, keeps running around'
?!
I wish I could give him the benefit of the doubt, but even then.. why get in a farm party of an ex primal when you are babysitting? Go level up botanist or something.
So, yesterday after we had finally cleared Shinryu EX, our semi-static-raid-group decided to run Rabanstre because some of us still needed a drop - we queue up as full party obviously.
Our warrior quickly checks out the other two tanks - a DRK who already dropped grit and another warrior in pretty bad gear (some 300-dungeon-drops, some 310 and 320 gear, the 282-headpiece, one or two white crafted items...) but with defiance on. So friends figures he would go MT - even more so, after no one showed any sign of engaging the first boss after 30 seconds. He starts a countdown, pulls, starts tanking... until the other warrior steals aggro.
Adds in between - same thing happens.
Second boss - same story...
Now my friend gets a little bit pissed - if the other warrior wanted to tank so badly, why not pull or say something?!
So he calls that warrior out in alliance-chat - to what that person claims that they're only using offtank-abilities and that our friend has to be a pretty bad tank if they're able to rip hate that way.
...to which half the alliance replies with telling them to turn of defiance for a start...
I kindly ask where there 290-headpiece is - you know, the one you get from your jobquest. To which a friend of the warrior replies that there retainer has it... I do hope my tip that you can rebuy that armor for as little as 1.000 gil was helpful :)
Maybe it was a bit of a petty argument, but I cant stand that kind of people - entering group-content, knowing full well that they're gear could and should easly be enhanced beforehand... and specially as tank in 24-man-content this behaviour just confuses me - you know that other tanks are better geared than you, so let them handle the tanking and dont force your poor healers to heal and undergeared ego through those fights...
Roulettes 50/60, Leveling and Main Scenario. Three times today I used Hallowed Ground, the ability went on CD but I still died.
This usually doesn't happen but seems I had major lag spikes or packet loss.
I preface this by saying that this happened about a week ago.
Anyway I was running Ala Mhigo to cap creation (and hopefully the mount) and I ended up with 2 rdms and a whm. One of the rdms (who also had the RP flag on) was wearing a mix of HQ and level 60's gear. LEVEL 60's GEAR.....including shire.....he couldn't even bother to augment it. And of course, not a single piece was melded. The other rdm at least had his verity gear.
The healer...well the healer had a 70 whm, 70 sch, and an ast in the 50's with a few dps 70's as well. But....they were still in artifact and dungeon gear. (WHAT?!)
I figure I start slow and pull a single group to see how we do and noticed that the healer is doing 0 dps (standing around when they don't need to heal). I decide to start double pulling since the healer isn't dps'ing at all and I am doing about 10% more dps than the RP rdm without dropping tank stance. I cry a bit inside at this point because I know this is going to be a slow and painful run. On the first boss, the RP rdm died about 3 times to mechanics and the other rdm and I that are pretty much doing all the dps. On the second boss, the RP rdm only dies twice so he's getting better. After the second boss, i just pull one group at a time and things are not dying (other than the RP rdm) so as we slowly get closer to the final boss, I decide that since the healer isn't having that difficult of a time healing a single group, lets try two again. Big mistake, the healer couldn't keep up with the heals and of course I die and we wipe.
The RP rdm then goes "Misstique, we can't handle all of Eorzea! slow down!" lol.....he kept in character. So I respond that it was just 2 groups it should have been easy (I was clearly irritated at this point.) His response? " yeah but you died" ARE YOU F'ING KIDDING ME?!?! And of course the other rdm responds by saying "yeah, you need to slow down" Pulling one group at a time wasn't slow enough for you?
At this point, I can't take it anymore, I just drop out of the instance and do something else.
So I recently got a friend into the game, he quickly got to level 50 because he wanted to do all the big boy stuff like extreme trials and Coil, I told him we wouldn't find a group nowadays but he insisted on it anyway.
Ok no problem, we go with DF for most of First Coil and it actually doesn't go too badly (excluding a few wipes on T2 but ya know, that's to be expected), until we get to Turn 5 of course.
We start out and the SAM says right away "hey first time, I appreciate if you tell me what to do :)" followed by like 3 or 4 "same!"... great, they hadn't even watched a guide...
Ok so I start explaining the whole thing in exquisite detail, what ever mechanic does and how to deal with it, everyone seemed to understand it well enough so I decide to pull the boss and of course we wipe to divebombs. I explain how to deal with divebombs and only divebombs this time (it was probably too much information for some of them on the first pull)
Then on the second pull we don't even get to divebombs, we wipe because the WHM decided it was a good idea to stay at A during the entire fight, meaning we couldn't stack with him if he had the red marker.
At this point two DPS leave, probably just some poor sods doing their mentor roulette and I don't blame them.
Since it's i80 content and we're clearly overgeared with no DPS showing up anytime soon I decide to pull with just 6 people, it doesn't go too bad, we manage to do divebombs well enough even though the WHM I talked about died to them again, then we wipe during the adds because no one went back to the A marker even though I spammed in the chat for like 2 minutes yay.
After a few more wipes the RDM chimes in "I've been trying to clear this fight for 3 years but I've never been able to manage because I'm a solo player and I always get groups like this" wow, nice one dude...
So we pull again, this time we do everything perfectly only the WHM dies to divebombs again but he gets rezzed and we do the second set of divebombs well enough.
We get to the Neurolinks and then who else but Mr. 3-years-trying-to-clear goes into my Neurolink, even though we were all spamming chat for him to go to the other one to not get cleaved, even the WHM. Not only does he get out at the last minute (meaning he wasn't even protected by Neurolink) he then GOES BACK INTO MINE and dies, predictably.
After that we all die to Twister. My friend, as a true LoL player, flames the RDM and leaves since it was getting late, after that we disbanded.
Sorry for the rant but yeah I needed to vent about this lmao
You DF'd the first Coil? I'm surprised you got the queue to pop in a first place. But that being said, it makes it clear how you all got sync'd to level 50 making things way harder for everyone. I also find kinda disrespectful how people jump into end-game content without any preparation at all, specially fights like T5. You can explain everything, but they should also be aware of the visual cues. I don't think that watching a video would hurt anyone to be honest...
I just got out of tanking a Sirensong Sea that featured a BLM. Spamming Blizzard IV. On double pulls.
Fun fact: I was the only non-mentor in the run.
Rabanstre raid, 2 am on a Monday morning. My party cannot do mechs, my co healer is drunk and just drops regens and is dead most of the most of the fight. Literally runs around doing nothing and is never at A during important moments. I solo heal the whole raid only dying once (unless it was a wipe cuz sweet Jesus did that happen a lot) due to some other person near me stepping on the blue trap near us and I forgot take esuna as a role. Worse, we can't use markers bc there is an actual troll in the party removing the letters every time we try to place them down. Situations like this one remind me why i stopped maining sch.
I started my Ex Roulette yesterday and was put into "The Drowned City of Skalla" (because I haven't done it enough) and the run goes alright. The summoner kept dying and I wasn't sure if he was just pulling aggro, standing in mechanics, or he hid in a blind spot that removed his existence from my view, but that is fine I resurrect him as we go along and we have relatively no trouble (I did mess up one pull and let the tank die, but we recovered without everyone dying..so I'm counting that as only an almost disaster)
Once we got to Hrodric Poisontongue (I may be a bit paranoid...) but I swear the two DPS (who came in together, same surname, same server) were running at me with every mechanic they could. I mean they would charge at me anytime they had a bomb or cross or whatever on them. At one point he person with the cross was mimicking my movements so I would get hit...
Once again I might be paranoid, but after the fight finished they just stood their targeting me until I left...
Anyone who sprints to beat me to a loot chest, switch, door etc. when im clearly going towards it already is getting blacklisted.
Yes! I hate it when that happens, but I don't blacklist them.
I was actually kicked once from palace on my first run through levels 90-100 for opening chests. I was with my bf, and he and I would go one way while the tank and the other person went another (not planned, just happened that way). When I opened the first chests this tank made some sarcastic comment that basically meant he wanted me to stop opening chests. I replied with some silly comment like 'You don't pay my sub', and on floor 94 he vote kicked me, and since this basically needs 2 out of 3 votes, I got kicked.
I never understood why it bothered him so since I was the healer and nobody died, and he wasn't getting to floor 200 with a matched party. So I think he just wanted to open them himself or something?
I learned to not chat with random people while in potd (or any duty for that matter, I have another story about me making a stupid comment and someone with 0 sense of humor misunderstanding) unless they seem friendly enough, but I still open chests :X Haha.
Just ran Skalla for my expert roulette.
I start off with hello and tell everyone that they "fixed" push and pull and someone reacts by saying "damn casuals complained about it." To which I laugh. I know its gonna me an amusing run!
Its me, AST, a DRK, SMN and a SAM. One pull in, the tank starts complaining about lag and then at the gate where the little fish spawn, I got to put out a bit of DPS, end up pulling with Gravity, and the tank immediately DCs.
OOPS. Welp. We dps the fishies no problem and decide to give the tank some time to come back. We do the first boss without a tank and then dismiss the DRK when we finish. We get up to the pull before the second boss before a WAR joins.
A war whom is immediately chatty and mentions how much they love Skalla.
The run is reeeeeally fun. Even though it could have been a bad situation I had such a good time.
I really wish I could have commend everyone.
In the end I had gotten three commends!
I hope I run into them again sometime!
Rabanasta run one was hell for me. I missed over half my Trick Attacks because the bosses can not hold still. I use TenChiJin and they fly off. Or the drop an AoE on me. Or drop an AoE and fly off. And of course when I do land it, the other NIN overwrites it. We wiped to every boss at least once. And there was a BRD bragging about his DPS. Like, WAY TO GO CHAMP. YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO MECHANICS THAT'LL MESS UP THE POSITIONALS YOU DON'T HAVE.
Decided to go again as an AST in case something drops. First boss goes smooth. My co healer drops during the trash pull. Another one joins during the fight. Kept feeding cards to this SAM and BRD. This run is so much smoother, no wipes and I got the Astrological Tunic.
I just met an honest-to-goodness 0 DPS healer.
I queue for Leveling on SAM. Since I'm not at SB levels yet I usually get something lower and today is no exception. Tam Tara. For those who don't know off the top of your heads this is synced to level 19. On WHM you basically have a heal, a DoT and a rock to throw.
The only two abilities this healer used were Protect and Cure.
Now I know this is a hot button issue (for some god unknown reason) but I'm not shaming some newbie CNJ who hasn't healed past this before, this person has on a Kinna Cane which means she's at least 60, I think there was some Ghost Baroque stuff as well so likely higher. No returned icon. Every way I have to gague her experience means that she should be perfectly competent and instead... that.
The tank! You might think the tank was bad. He was not. He was a WAR leading his new rogue buddy through the dungeon. Both of them did great, the WAR in particular because he kept spamming overpower on larger groups as our only form of AoE. I was feeding him Goad practically on CD. He got my comm. I normally try to give it to new players if they did okay but this tank earned it.
Why? Just why? It's completely inexcusable in this situation. This is why I hate pugging as a non-healer, these people are out there and I just can't with them.
Also, to tack on, I realized after the first two pulls she wasn't doing anything and asked her if everything was okay. The tank paused, seemingly to give her time to answer, and I was met with silence. I didn't ever outright call her out on not DPSing (honestly mostly at that point because I wasn't sure if they were a premade and didn't want to spend another 25 mins in a queue.
I had a very depressing Sastasha run the other day. Our healer (I assume) was new, and only used three spells: Protect, Medica, and Stone.
And she would cast cure during pulls and after, as if it was a cute. The tank died on both of the first (very small) pulls because the healer was too busy dpsing or using protect. I think she thought that protect was a healing spell. After each pull she used medica twice.
I explained to her what each of her spells did and how to use them, but she didn't answer and continued doing what she was doing. I asked if she spoke English, and she replied yes.
She got a little better after that, but kept using spells at strange times. We almost wiped to the last boss though.
Just now I had a run of Pharos hm with a new tank. Totes fine, or should have been...
Me @ first boss: "Take tethers to the animals around the arena." (The healer messes that up on the third set of tethers, but thankfully it's no biggie because we're all capped off and the boss dies quickly)
@ Last trash pull: "Pull to the third incubator." (Tank does no such thing, and we barely manage to keep the bombs and incubators under control before the tank finally pulls everything.)
BTW, the tank kept pulling the mobs OUT of my Shadow Flare (I was running on Smn for a change)
@ Last boss: "When Remedy Bombs appear, attack them to knock them AWAY from the Gray Bombs, or else kaboom." (Would y'all like to guess what happened with the rest of the party despite me using Ruin II to knock the Remedy Bombs back? Or how many things went kaboom before I used the LB?)
Was running WoD and we wiped once on doggo because someone was holding the fetter and refused to use it, so he ended up zooming around and munching everyone. Then, one of our healers said, "I don't want to do this fight again" and proceeded to afk in the corner forcing the other healer to solo heal our less than average party. Kicking someone after the fight never felt so good.
I was leveling my mch to 70 and just got to Sirensong Sea level. I started and got a BLM on my team. Start the dungeon and notice my aggro and the healer's aggro is a bit off .... Then I actually look at what the blm is casting. Literally just Fire, Blizzard. I went and explained to them rotation, anything they needed help with. They tried their best but I could see they were struggling with something. Beat the final boss... Their achievement pops for beating 10 dungeons.
.... Leveling potions...
Good news everyone! Had my first wipeless Rabanastre run!
My tank MT'd (which I always enjoy) and I only personally died one time - on the final boss people stacked the cross markers all crazy and even sprinting there was nowhere safe for me to go. My coheal was a great SCH (to my WHM) who was on top of her fairy. Our tank did great too though he got zombied a few times on the final boss.
Got rezzed, healer LB3'd most of the rest of the party up and we pulled it together in the end.
Bad news? Even though it went so smoothly our tank said something along the lines of "sorry for all that" after the second boss (where, to be fair, he died a couple times) and I said "no worries, you did great!" because, imo, he did.
Our SMN chimes in with "f*cking killed me" just before we pull the next fight.
Why, after everything is going to well, are you going to get salty about dying once? Even if it was someone else's fault, though I don't see how she could blame the tank since he didn't lose threat, how about you just chill and be happy we cleared.
People. Ugh.
I just MTed all of WoD for the first time, we had some impatient DPS that kept pulling, and finally in the last fight I let the person die.
I told my team. "Hey guys, don't tell, but I let the person that pulled die." and a few people were like "Good." "I do that too."
It made me grin. The run was over all great other than the early pullers, even that wasn't so bad.
I had a WoD run very similar to that and before we entered the final boss someone initiated a kick on the DRG who had been early pulling. Another player jumped in and said "what why?" and it wound up not passing. The DRG must have been partied with that person before because she said "why would anyone kick me?" and no one was answering or pulling.
I eventually gave in and said "I didn't initiate it but it's probably because you're pulling before the tanks" to which she responded by pulling again. One of the other alliances got involved so then our party hopped in.
I will say I never spot healed her after that. If she benefitted from an AoE heal so be it and my coheal was a SCH so I'm sure she caught some embraces but when people tell you you're doing something wrong and you go ahead and keep doing it I want nothing to do with you.
Yay, more for the blacklist.
Trial Roulette drops me into Shinryu today.
Get the newbie bonus message but someone just decides to pull without any countdown or anything and we just go with it.
Tidal Wave comes and the PLD falls off (Newbie found) so the healers rez him but ofc someone's got to be an ass and the DRK called the PLD trash. PLD dies again but rejects the rez this time, deciding to just get into an argument with the DRK and this continues practically the whole run. At about 18% the DRK jumps off the stage stating "I refuse to carry trash" and rejects the rez at which point the Healers are struggling to keep me alive as I have aggro now with both tanks gone and PLD FINALLY requests a rez, which again the DRK calls them out on but it's too late and we end up wiping. DRK give a parting shot before leaving and then the PLD states "All trash players leave now"
I just left at that point.
Had an interesting Rabanastre run today where all the DPS but me and the healers lived, I had double ASTs and all our DPS constantly had weakness or double weakness. They ended up giving me all the cards Balances/Enhanced Balances, Spears etc, they said they were "channeling my inner warrior of light" into me I just laughed as i slaughtered every boss with the awesome power of double AST cards and they even timed them till they ran out.
Thanks for that run my Fel Cleaves thank you as well <3
Id be curious if it was the new PLD, the DRK, or a DPS/healer who pulled. But the attitude shown here bothers me regardless. A most likely new player makes one mistake(its an insta-kill mistake, not a party-wipe mistake) and some jerk immediately starts calling them names. Bad look. Then new person stops participating to argue with them? Also bad look(but wouldnt have happened if the first guy wasnt a jerk). By the end it sounds like id have left too(once we devolve into petty and childish). I love that fight, im happy to help a new player clear it. But i have my limits.
After getting LotA half of the time in my daily Alliance roulette, you would think -- finally -- people would start figuring out mechanics.
I've yet to be in a group that doesn't die to Ancient Flare.
Bonus points to the people who:
a) Spam macros in alliance chat after a single wipe on a 2-minute boss
b) Still have to be reminded with <se.3><se.4><se.5> to go back to platform
c) Were the ones to make sarcastic remarks when I explained mechs pre-pull, and died anyway
