I do too. And I'm pretty confident we will get three jobs.

The main issue the dev team had with HW was that they had just made the NIN job and they had a lot less time to make DRK, AST, and MCH than they have had with Stormblood. So while the dev team might have complained at that time about having to make 3 jobs (in many ways 4 jobs with NIN), there's really no reason for them to complain with Stormblood. They haven't been rushed and have a lot more time and money to work with.

I hope your right. But I'm holding onto 2 jobs and going to be pleasently surprised at the announcement of 3 jobs. I won't be disappointed at only 2 jobs though.. well as long as they aren't both DPS. I play all 3 roles but in an order of preference it's Tank > Healer > DPS. So as long as it's DPS/Tank or DPS/Healer I'll be happy.

Although I will be really disappointed if there is nothing big coming to characer customization, with no new race coming there seems to be no excuse for only 3 hairstyles. I wouldn't even mind just some extra face options and maybe just maybe have Au Ra horns separated from the face... I don't even play Au Ra and I'm really happy with how my character looks right now, but I would love some more variety in the player base looks.

As long as I get my SAM :D No but seriously I think DNC fits Stormblood too well and if there is a 3rd job it just makes sense to be DNC. SAM needs to be added. If in 2 weeks time we see BLU revealed, my money will be on SAM being added as a third job, like AST was. If its SAM which is revealed, I'd hope for DNC to be added as the third class.

If only we could have 4 jobs this expansion. Though that leaves the question, what would they possibly add for 5.0? Dancer and Blue Mage both feel like they'd fit an Ala Mhigo setting. Red Mage, not so much. Samurai is obviously Doman, but we don't wait to go to a place to get a job from it, we usually just get a job or two from a place we -do- go to.

That's the thing, RDM and SAM are the most hype jobs requested and their both coming out in Stormblood (most likely) and from doing a bit of personal research on some of the xiv boards, BLU and DNC are close competitors. Not that Tank BLU would be my ideal place for it, either. I'd much rather we got a BLU DPS in Striking or Scouting gear class with SAM in Maiming. I just mean if one of them for whatever reason has to be a tank, I'd much rather it were BLU.

To be honest, most non tank mains think this is a good idea... I don't hate the idea of BLU tank, but much prefer Samurai Tank as I do picture tanks as the frontline fighters with high physical prowess. And most of the tank mains who want SAM as a DPS want it as a DPS so they can literally stop playing Tank for a sword based melee DPS.

Just my envision though, I like the idea of making tanks these threatening frontline fighters. BLU would be better saved as a Melee DPS, who could use Swords. :rolleyes:

I agree with this so much. Getting tired of people asking SAM to be a dps because they either:

- play tank and would rather play dps
- want to play a tank-like job and not be a tank in terms of mastery and responsibilities

The reason I find their points annoying is because they do not truly believe SAM will be better off as dps. It is simply them wanting SAM to be more approachable to them.

For a few reasons I posted before, I expect SAM to be a dps. However, I would prefer it to be a tank.

I main Tanks and Healers, and I want a melee DPS because MNK and DRG aren't really to my liking. NIN is okay. Your attempts to make tank players who don't want another tank appear "selfish" is kind of transparent.

I understand your point about MNK and DRG not being to your liking and honestly my taste is in line with yours. My problem starts when I realize that even if I'd like to have a dps alt to my liking, for the case of SAM, I simply cannot think of a "better" version of the job being dps rather than a tank.

In other words, a job should be implemented in the best form possible and not in the most popular one instead. If that can truly be done as a dps for the case of SAM, it is more than welcome, although I doubt that a non-tank SAM can really be the better option.

If we get 3 jobs, I hope it's BLU and SAM. I can see Dancer as a healer, but Blue Mage would fit the role extremely well. Or maybe we'll see a Seer with an orb as a weapon? (I know it's Matoya's Crystal Eye, but who cares right?)

Krile is in the same grey area of non-job as Y'shtola. She's an Astrologian, mechanically. Additionally, Devout / 導士 is just a "Super White Mage", in the same way White Wizard is. It'd be redundant at this point.

Pretty sure Y'shtola is firmly in the Conjurer/White Mage category. I can't say I've seen her using spells from outside of that, unless you count Collective Unconsciousness' visual, though used as a barrier.

I don't think so. They are most likely going for jobs of classic value and Seer is not one of them. During the announcement, I would love to hear a nostalgic job name rather than a random one. AST was the kind of random that did not have that much of an appeal even if it actual included Time Mage in its package.

Y'sthola is Sharlayan conjurer, that's why she has something akin to Collective Unconscious. In battle, Krile functions exactly as a WHM, using what appears to be a Yagrush. I agree that in previous games Seer is basically a better White Mage, but FFXIV dev team is pretty good in differentiating jobs by fusing class archetypes from previous games (WHM, for example, is basically a WHM archetype that can use some "Blue" magic as DPS spells, and Bard incorporates Hunter iconic features like Barrage).

Oh, she uses a staff? Explains why I didn't remember seeing her using an orb like a starglobe. My mistake. She's not in anything repeatable so I don't take a lot of time to pay any attention to her. Thought she used the orb because I had seen the art.

However, Aero was White Magic before it was ever Blue Magic, so CNJ having it doesn't actually mean anything. If anything, Blue Mage could just as easily use Water, Watera and Waterga in place of Aero.

Seer is an upgrade to WHM. The name itself is not of classical value because the concept is that of the WHM in essence. If they were to add a Seer job, it will have to be something completely random and irrelevant.

If I was to add a crazy idea for a healer, I would add the following, despite not being a classic either. Necromancer, the original idea that got replaced by Puppetmaster, in a healer version. Drain to get essence, then use it to empower healing spells.

Certainly not. It probably would have been better than Puppetmaster, but as PUP in that game is really really stupid and dumb the bar isn't exactly set very high.

I think Chemist would create confusion with Alchemist. Dancer seems like a more likely healer, but even then, it might be difficult to implement depending. I'm sure there are other jobs/classes which could be introduced to create new Healers, though the trouble is, making sure they're all unique and viable. Right now WHM is on the weak side it seems, while SCH is almost a necessity in any group setup.

Not fond of Chemist, but I would like to see a healer that doesn't look so pure and feminine like the existing healers. Dancer still feels like the existing healers, however, Chemist or even the absurd Nercomancer idea could make a difference.

From what Yoshi has said thus far, I personally bet that BLU will end up being merged with Beastmaster. Something like, tame monsters and share some of their abilities when a said monster is actively set as a pet. The tame mechanic could resemble the WoW Hunter mechanic for anyone who is familiar with it.

Honestly though, you got me. Other then those 2 jobs, I can't see many more ideas for the Healer role. This might be due to me not being an FF vet but an MMO vet. I'm sure there are plenty out there, I mean I have my own idea of Shrine Priest being a Doman themed Healer that uses a bell staff but that's just a little idea I had when thinking of original healers that would fit the lore, nothing related to the current topic but I do have a little imagination.. My guess is, at some point, SE will start making unique jobs for FFXIV anyways, once the major staples are covered. I mean, SAM, BLU, DNC, BST, seem to be the last ones that could be added without stepping on the toes of other classes. After that, perhaps we'll see more original jobs. I mentioned in another thread I'd love to see a class using a kind of Ioun Stone weapon type, perhaps as a Cleric/Priest/Divinist/Oracle/Seer/Whatever, with the stones being a kind of magicite linked to the Twelve. Wouldn't mind an Illusionist type job either.

True, at some point FFXIV will start having exclusive jobs. However, we will have every nostalgic job in-game before that happens. Exclusive jobs could still have nostalgic parts. For instance, they could add a completely new job concept that features the gunblade as a weapon.

I am curious about the battle system changes though. Will they be as heavy as the transition from 1.0 to 2.0 was? Maybe not, but hopefully the changes will not be too minor. For the current info we have, simply toying with cross-skills doesn't really imply much of a change.

Considering they've stated they want to remove the Classes at some point, part of me wonders if we'll see another ARR kind of expansion, maybe for 6.0.

My dream for an announcement at Fan Fest would be:

Red Mage - DPS
Blue Mage - Tank or DPS
Dancer - Healer
Samurai - DPS or Tank

Yes, I know that 4 jobs seems crazy, but it's not the much of a stretch if you think about it. SAM has actually been in development before, but it was scrapped for DRK instead. So at least some work went into it. And they have had a lot more time and money to work on jobs, so 3 new jobs plus one partially created job wouldn't be impossible.

Is 4 jobs likely? No. Like I said, it's just my dream lineup. But I'm really hoping for BLU at least.

There are plenty of alternative and viable names for a Chemist job, considering most literal translations of the original japanese names for the job are things like Doctor, item user, salve maker etc. Naming it Apothecary would be quite apt as well as fitting with the game's language to a degree as well. I know this will come across as nitpicking, but I think the greater issue is, it'd be a stretch on realism. Every other Job/Class we can explain in combat without much difficulty. By contrast, a Chemist would require a stock of items, or at least ingredients, to constantly be making the materials they need to perform in a combat situation. Pockets and Bags can only hold so much, after all.

What you're saying is a non-issue because this is a game first. They don't have to have a need for actual supplies to make such a job work because a certain suspension of disbelief is always present in this game. There are plenty of ways to create interesting and fun job mechanics for a chemist that involve mixing ingredients that you don't need to actually collect ahead of time or carry in your inventory. Something akin to MCH's reload, except the chemist could have say, 3 different versions of them and by then combining them in certain orders allows them to create potions/tonics/elixirs etc. capable of different things.

I picture it could work similar to ninja's ninjutsus so say 4 ingrediants combo with 5 being the trigger. 1-3-2 give you shield buff when you hit 5 and 4-2-1 gives you regen. If you mess up the vial blows up in your face giving you a little smoke cloud on your head. XD

No idea how the arrows work, I believe there was a comment of, "They just re-use them after each kill." As for MCH bullets, those are made from aether, likely the same as wildfire bombs, and destroyed turrets can be repaired. Warriors, Paladins, and Dragoons all summon their weapons back to them. Chemist would be the only case where their abilities would -literally- consume the materials without any chance of refund, recyle, repair, or re-use.
