An Open Letter to Yoshida-san: Please Slice One Zero Off the Housing Prices

Just posted this in another thread, posting it here too as it relates to Yoshi's comment....

Anyhow, there are 30 plots per ward and 5 wards, which means there are 150 properties per area. so the 3 areas in total hold 450 properties. There are 1007 FC's on Durandal of which 660 have fewer than 11 members which means there are 347 FC's who have a reasonable chance to quickly obtain Rank 6 and purchase an FC property.

Yoshi's lie, err, excuse, err, reason, if the properties were too cheap, they would run out. There are 450 properties, there are 347 FC's who have a reasonable chance of obtaining Rank 6 and getting enough gil to purchase a property, that means there would be 103 properties left over, empty, void of occupants (until the FC's with <10 members finally obtain Rank 6). So, based on my math, there are enough properties to cope with possible demand, so the excuse really doesn't hold water when you work out the numbers......

And if a FC puts a chapter house in every city-state? So 347 times 3 is 1041 which is a lot more than 450. So supply is an issue,

such a thing would be impractical to do, with housing prices.

and only barely a handful of FCs will even be capable of doing so in the first place, unless they are going for the smallest one (even then, ugh.)

Housing is a luxury item, by definition it's impractical. Waiting 3 months makes 3 small houses as little as 12 million on many servers. Many FCs could easily achieve this and suck up supply from smaller FCs wanting to buy their first house.

thats 12 million for 3 deeds. you still have to build the rest of it.

travel isn't very expensive in this game, its easier (and cheaper) just to have one place than 3. after that is just E-peening, and honestly...

a bigger house is better for that. (nothing says i'm better than you than owning a castle.)

And where do many of those people get their money? Crafting! So that base is covered. Like you said traveling is easy so you can easily make millions of gil and have nothing to spend it on. I agree it's e-peeing but what else are you gonna spend the excess money on?

You're assuming every single FC, A) has the desire to do something like that and B) has the funds. Let's assume 10% of the FC's decide to do that, 10% of 347 is say 38, 347+38=385, still leaves a lot left over. Even if 20% of the FC's decided to do that there would still be housing left over.

Unfortunately this is true. Any attempt to try and come up with some alternate way of gaining a house is going to fall on deaf ears. Yoshi had promised housing and for whatever reason was embarrassed to delay it, or patch 2.1, any further. SE then came up with some bizarre 'excuses' for pricing housing out of reach of 95+% of FFXIV's population. This wouldn't be so bad if he had just be honest with everyone. Maybe I'm in the minority but FC housing was the one thing I was really looking forward to and now I have no idea when it will be possible - even the crappiest of lots/houses.

Obviously Square Enix is catering to the wealthy & the RMT "Real Money Traders" that spent real money to purchase millions of gill so they can gloat in there million dollar housings!

Every on knows how hard it is to earn gil it takes me with a high lvl miner almost 6 hrs of play to mine 200K in ores.

Unless thats all you do period is gather, fish, mine, etc. ant nothing more it would take an average person that plays 2 to 3 hrs a day 1 year and 2 weeks to earn 7 mil.

SE is obviously being paid of some how or this would not of happened dont belive what they say for the numbers answer it all!

RMT "Real Money Traders" have been selling gill on this game sense the first version came out!

Se not only needs to delete those RMT's but the people that purchased millions of gill as well!

It is clearly stated in the Game contract and SE has admited they know who has the millions of gil!

You have been lieing to us from the start for you promised us you would eliminate the RMT and the people that purchased large amounts of gill instead you cater to the wealthy and create a monoply especially if those housing deeds could be sold!
You should of been at least set it up that housing is permanate that cannot be sold and limit housing to one per paying customer period no one not even people with multiple accounts should be allouded more than one because most of them are RMT's that will sell that account with real money!

Allowing the corupt with millions of gill to have special previlidges is dishonorable!

So since it was stated before that FC housing would cost about 3 people lvling from 1-50 and we have these prices. What makes anyone believe that the personal housing will be "affordable" or even be there at all. I mean right now your having issues with server space for fc housing which is significantly less plots than personal will ever have. So your telling me we don't have enough server space to cover the amount of fc's in the game, but we're going to be able to cover every single person with a house that is fully customizable in a neighborhood the same size or larger than fc housing neighborhoods? Might want to prep your cardboard boxes to be permanent residences.

Just sell titan runs all the day from weeks, every day. I know a lot of players with many more millions than you imagine, not bough with RMT. Still ye, the system is heavily corrupted, most bought money from RMT and go free.

You know when things goes fun? When you discover further plans: personal housing coming soon is a room of a billionaire huge FC house we are forced to pay and own already, and hundred players are expected to have their room on that (obiouvsly if paying ).
Talking about realism and immersion, assuming technically the personal room would be a separate istance like inn room to not overload the main house istance (with hundred noones you didn't ever met with the same FC tag running around or doing a doze), explain me the sense of how that max-size house had hundred rooms..

Shame, i was looking forward at least for personal housing, it would have kept me quite interested for long. Let's see if a certain mmo coming on April has plans on it :rolleyes:

My sincere congrats to you & your FC. It's nice when housing prices are inline with in-game earnings plus shrewd market board sales.

The equivalent on legacy worlds would have required an additional 213M gil and 525M gil to be brought in from outside the ARR economy. That's approximately 3M or 7M more per member of Mimic.

So the real question is do you think that he'd still be boasting the large fc house in the forums or if they'd be boasting the small one that they could afford if they were on your server? :D

It's actually alright though you know I just sort of sit in NINJA's front yard on Malboro and drive down their land value because I'm a homeless person that hangs out at their fire pit trying to keep warm through the snowy season. :D Anybody is welcome to join me of course who am I to say whether you can hang out in NINJA's front lawn.

Sorry - but I actually quite disaggree with this. The price should be "prohibitive" enough (and no - I don't mean current "smoked-up" prices but the realistic ones about 10 - 20 times less) and introducing additional obstacle like amount of FC members will put small tightly knit FCs to dissadvantage. Why should be small FC restricted from purchasing Medium or Even Large plot / house if they want to and can afford it (again in the realistic pricing)? And for those saying why would small FC want / need that:

- Because they can / want
- To be able to have the Workshop (Only possible in Large - main reason for me actually)
- Because they want to be able to expand their membership base in the future if needed without wasting money by loosing majority (if not all) of the investments in the smaller property and furnishings

Also - I'm not that much sure about "purchasing" the FC plot with FC credits (only) as that would (again) put in dissadvantage small FCs or those who concentrate mainly on crafting as those barelly generate enough credits. Maybe some reasonable combination of gil & FC credits (let's say up to 100 000 credits) would be acceptable as you would gain about that just by leveling to Rank 6 unless indeed you've used it for company actions.

They made a note in bright red letters stating that if your housing purchase is made with RMT gil, it will be confiscated and action will be taken. If anything, the high prices are a GREAT way for them to catch people who are using RMT'd gil.

I'm more likely to buy a house in real life in the next few weeks than I am to buy a house in FFXIV in the next few months/years. With or without a number of people offering me money as an investment. Hell the analogy works because I'd still be getting a loan for my home, except here you're expecting investors to give an FC leader a full complete loan without any promise of return or interest for a house they have little to no control over and can lose at any time for any disagreement with said FC leader. It's so, ridiculous.

RMT buyers and cheaters will be busy with their over priced one plot mansion with no one else living next to them. Woopee!

Somehow Takeshi's challenge has turned into an mmo. Is this going to be the same thing as with the crafters, with an arbitrary(read:disproportionate) amount of Gil being stripped from them as well?

So any FC that manages to save up this exorbitant amount is somehow a part of RMT activity and must have the Gil stolen from them, just to be on the safe side?

So I'm still waiting for Yoshi or a dev to address the fact that a large portion of the community feels that we were lied to. Housing isn't ready. It has nothing to do with money, RMT, or the economy. Your content isn't ready so you released it and locked out 99% of the player base.

RMT gil gets confiscated, so nope, no one gets a house.

Here's a simple fix: 1 House per Free Company.

Why does a Free company need more than one anyway?

but to the point, I'm part of a small free company of dedicated players (today we clocked around 14 hours each, we had some time off work and uni) however, even getting to 1mil would be a hurdle for us, the biggest fc on my server (Special Forces Zero) are 400+ strong and I believe even they haven't yet got a house due to lack of funds... there is no point showing off all the features (or even making them for that matter) for something no one has access to.

All in all I think this is just SE trying to get people to play mindlessly for months on end just to get a house while they rake in the sub fees and think of some better content to release before players get fed up with their 2-3 million gil that still cant buy a house.

a final point for lolz, I buy a sword irl, it costs me £200/$327.38 a house in the uk on average costs £242,415 so sprox 1200 swords to 1 house... I wonder, on ff14 how many swords could I buy for the price of 1 average priced house?

issue I think will be that Yoshida-San won't pay it much heed for a while... not until players start canceling their subs, I for one still have a bit to do on the game before I get bored but I can't say the same for all those full myth binding coil players... what do you do when you've beaten the hardest dungeon in the game but your still no where near owning a house?

Why don't your make it were a free company's can own only 1 land/ house? Pretty simple but get this if they want a bigger house later on they can buy an upgrade land plot so they can own a larger house in the end. they keep the same land and will be able to upgrade there house size in the end witch gives people more to look forward to longer in the game. Just trying to help out the smaller FC's. Also 3 months is a long time your basically expecting your fans to pay 47.95 and endless hours of our time so we can have a house later on or join a FC right away with 200+ people to get a house? Im not sure how many people are like me but i play because i love final fantasy and i love playing with FRIENDS, so i dont want to leave my FC that contains my friends to move to some FC thats 200+ players that i dont know at all and more likely wont have an opinion on how the house will look. I hope you read this and thank you for your time and hard work.

You grind none stop and then get claimed for being a bot in witch you then don't get a house. or you do Russian roulette everyday and get tired of it.

While I think the housing price situation is a complete disaster, I think the response given in the "Regarding Housing Price" post is insulting.
First of all, the "Fundamental Pricing Stance" is not only utter nonsense, but a clear example of a paper tiger defense in a poor attempt to cover for the fact that there aren't currently enough servers to handle too many people buying up land and building houses.

Of course the other half of that truth is hidden away in all the explanations of the "extensive survey of the Eorzean economy". I'd wager that what all that really meant was that you all are desperate to take money out of circulation across the board, and this seemed like a good way to do so.
Of course the most disturbing facet of this entire fiasco is the fact that you admit that you guys did this intentionally, and then you have the sheer audacity to flat out tell some players, ALL of which might I remind you PAY you money to play your game, that they unfortunately will most likely not be able to enjoy this content.

Here's a free tip. While the people who fall into this category in your game might not, according to you, have enough funds to enjoy this particular content in your game, they do in fact have enough funds to pay for the subscription to the game and this isn't exactly a great way to win them over and keep those renewal subscriptions rolling in. You guys put out all this publicity for Free Company housing going back months, you spend hours talking about all the little details of the content in Letters to the Producer LIVE, you get the entire player community hyped up about all the great times they will have decorating the houses, building airships in the workshop, you tout Free Company housing as a hallmark of the very first major update of the game...All this, and when it comes time to unveil this new remarkable content all we get is absurd prices for the content to the extent that almost nobody can take part and enjoy it and a flippant admission that you guys apparently never even planned on letting us enjoy this content until 3 months from now?!

It pains me greatly to say this, but you should all be embarrassed and ashamed of this situation and they way you have treated the community, your customers, in this regard. As a long time and loyal supporter of this game from back in 1.0, I sincerely hope you and the design team can take this feedback and do right by the gaming community that supports you.

all the wealthy players tend to come from major free companies, so just limit each free company to 1 plot and there should be plenty to go around.currently though, and even with your future predictions, the smaller free companies are suffering (I'm in an english FC on a japanese server so I'm already screwed) for fear of something easily fixed, this will eventually result in small free companies disbanding to join bigger ones that can afford housing leaving you with no more than 10 free companies on a server thus wasting a lot of the empty plots and a lot of the SE staffs efforts.

Only a Master of a FC can but a house right...? Why does there even have to be a housing market? If you really want one then make it so a FC can only have a max of 2 deeds at once. Or you know, start it off with a FC only being able to have 1 lot, cause you know, that actually makes sense... That logic i could see applying to personal housing, but FC housing? That's just fucking stupid. Just admit to a mistake Yoshi, and make your players happy.
