Why not abolish the Class system entirely in favor of Jobs? [@ Devs]

Gutting the lore of the story is not an answer. Arcanist and carbuncle says classes are going nowhere. The main site's pages on classes says they are going nowhere. Achievements and quests that are still attainable says classes are going nowhere.

And they all have lore explaining the events of the world around their cities, and also a starting point to the adventurer's story. Whole npc lives and organizations are built around the guilds.

To put the adventurer as independent of all this makes them an alien instead of a resident. Some anomaly of the game world that is detached from its society and lore. That's not you get investment into a character's story.

I think I get what you're saying. Classes do have a lot to do with the story. Changing all that would mean rebuilldng an already established lore from the ground up. Still, I wonder if there's a way to do all this and everyone get what they want. Probably not, lol. I think the FFT job suggestion was interesting, though...

There is not. The development team has way more important things to do than rebuilding the whole system, and rewriting large portions of the lore over something that is really nothing else than a technicality.

I'm actually amazed that anyone would suggest that. The introduction of jobs and the seventh umbral era storyline created enough inconsistencies by themselves, we can really do without adding more.

It can slide into the lore easily since you wouldnt be removing things.. just re-titling. Making new 1-35 levels for each adv. job would take a lot of work though (part of the upper end of jobs is already fleshed out.. the lower end is not at all).

Only that people already played that lore. Re-titling would be an immense retcon, and several parts of the lore are based upon things that simply do not fit jobs.

There are whole areas of the ul-dah story that are based over thaumaturges and their temple. Those do not, in any way or form, fit black mages, that have nothing to do with religion, death or burial.

Hmmm... Perhaps some new lore can be introduced into ARR that tes things together... I don't know. If it was ever to be done, Yoshi would find a way to do it. It would take quite a lot of work tooling it in, though.

I understand what you mean, but the change you suggest simply doesn't fit the lore, as the blm story is deeply ingrained within the Thaumaturge story.

Also, you're suggesting a *massive* increase to the grind involved in the game, and the sole idea is honestly staggeringly bad.
