Please make Blue Mage a normal job

i think if you want Blue Mage to be a normal job, we can't have all the current "trick attacks" that Blue Mage have right now, cause it's just very overpowered that a single Blue Mage can do a lot of type of invulnerability skill, that's why back to my point before i think it's a good idea to separate "caster Blue Mage" and "physical Blue Mage" in role archetypes, or maybe just nerf or disable some of the skills completely. I do think it's interesting to see how a lot of these skills do in a non-all-blue party comp, but with how streamlined the other jobs are i think we need a lot more balancing into that instead of just importing Blue Mage as it is.

i think it'll also be interesting if they add in a 1-2-3 combo instead of just spam 1 skill-OGCD though, with that many skills in their arsenal it seems like a waste that you only use Sonic Boom(?) as your main dps, it'll also make BLU more unique as the other casters doesn't have 1-2-3 combo.

i have to disagree with the first highlight, SE tends to class their job into 2 category, the pure dps like samurai and blm, and the.. rest, i guess. even monk who is really strong right now has brotherhood. i think if we're still talking how Blue mage is to be designed as Jack of all trades, it will fall into the 2nd category. devotion is 5%, off-guard is also 5%, only difference is 1 a buff and 1 is debuff. so unless we want to make blue mage a pure dps, i suggest we keep the off guard intact.

we give blue mage another branching here? to be either pure or synergy build? nah that's taking too far. :^)

second highlight, i agree that it'll definitely brings a fresh air to the scene. We have combo based range (mch) and proc based range (dnc), we have proc based caster like (rdm), so it's only fair that we add a combo-based caster as well, and blue mage might as well be it were it not limited.

They still need to rethink about how the role actually works for blue mage because its so diverse. If it can be a tank , a healer and a dps then it will be very hard to rebalance since some roles require unique skills like tanks with immunity , healers with instant heal etc. To be able to compete with that , blue mage need the equivalent skills of specific roles

Which is why the developers have to add in more spells, what we have right now isn't enough as it only focus a lot on the DPS side of things. We need more skills relevant to Tanking and Healing roles, and maybe they need to add not just 20 spells but over 40-60 spells to accommodate low level spell obtainment for low level duty participation with basic set of skills for each role and then new ones for the high end duties as well as past max cap content. If we also want to make it balance to the point where one spell only works in 1 role. They have already done that with Astrologian where depending their the sect (Diurnal and Nocturnal) you have chosen, Aspected Benefic and Aspected Helios changes. If Diurnal these 2 spells will have a regen effect added to it, if nocturnal they will instead act as a shield like scholar's Adloquium. Aetherial Mimicry has already done that with certain Blue Mage spells, though only for a few spells. Which means they need to add more spells that are more in tune to the roles necessary.

That could be the right direction, but maybe if they choose to do that they'll have to cut down some of the current skills first, cause there are some skills that are downright gimmicky, or "useless", in a way.
To make BLU a normal job i think they should look into how to make them usable while not being overpowered, cut some of the gimmick skills, add in more essentials, or options if they want to do other roles than DPS. I say this because in the end the end game of FFXIV is High End Duty, and the current BLU setup doesn't really fit into it. It'll be a hard work cause they have to add and remove and adjust a lot of stuffs, but i think it's doable.

not useless per se, because somewhere down the line they can be tuned to have different attack type (physical, magical, unaspected) but atm they have similar potency and effect that it's practically the same thing. the only difference is probably 10 or 20 potency or lower cast time. Ideally we want to shave those off.
and i think It's definitely doable. given how little they have new contents this expansion(although it could be due to COVID), shaving some skills and adding a basic stuff won't be a problem i think. Especially when it's not really a brand new skills. They can just literally copy another caster and add blue mage skills-collecting mechanic if they want to.

We still don't know what skills they are going to give us with the new level cap and what contents that they will allow blue mage to do beside savage. It can be brand new skills to learn or can just upgrade the current skillsets. Not sure if they will make ultimate accessible for blue mage since they only given us little information from the live letter. If blue can do ultimate , there might be hope for blue to become a normal job

well for a start, they'll add the SB trials to the list since they do that in ARR and HW contents. my concern is there's mechanic like Susano'o where you need to mash button to hold the sword, because to my knowledge they only have diamondback as a mitigation and you can't do stuff while you're DB'd. they need to add some more skills where it's more flexible / similar to other roles. that or 1HP mechanic like white hole/kefka's mechanic. You can pull it off, just need extreme timing management (pom cure + white wind). otherwise yeah need more general skillset first, but i'm thrilled to see what they will bring this time.

Well hopefully they can add more skills regarding to tanking and healing. However I am more hoping towards the fact that it will be getting it own job gauge allowing it to have a stronger mitigation, heals and spells for DPS letting powerful spells being limited through the use of a job gauge like they did with Summoner, Red Mage and Black Mage since most their powerful abilities and spells are locked behind their Job Gauge. Like Enkindle Phoenix/Bahamut with a 650 potency, Scorch with a 700 Potency and Xenoglossy with a 750 potency. All locked behind a job gauge and for a very good reason.

We can only have limited amount of active skills now so adding stronger role specific skills might force blue mage to play with it hence they will behave like normal classes in general. Class gauge for blue mage might be the answer so blue cant keep spamming the overpowered skills and need to do some conditions to fill the gauge like other classes.
