Lets say SE was calculated with 100.000 players. Now they have around 300.000. Half of them quit, makes 150.000 that will stay and SE is still fine.

square enix got me for life hook. go ahead mark white knight for square enix and yoshi p i dare you.
The story is so terrible it almost blows my brain out reading that horrible google translated English, actually clicking through it. The acting of characters is so terrible I go nearly insane waiting for it to end.
I like the world. I was looking for a realistic looking MMO and I enjoy FF to run around. But as people said the game is terrible right now. Targeting, content, story, spam, grinding, DF wait time. There's literally nothing that is made for people to enjoy except the world (design).
And I want more sun why is it always either dust, or dark, or rain, or gas or shade. No sun!!
I wish they voiced all cut scenes for the main story line...I hate reading the dialogue for characters that use slang.
I'm taking my good sweet time with this game, and not focusing on leveling any single class. I'm really trying to enjoy everything the game offers. So I don't really care what happens when subs kick in as I'm going to have my fun regardless.
They have lots of content in thew works. I guarantee it. Just wait. And people have been loving this game. Some really decent people taking their time. Some decent people going fast. And some d-bags who are most likely well-addicted. Game is solid for a long time coming. The good press and lack of AAA competition will help it create a solid playerbase too.
-tales from me arse
[QUOTE=setsua26;1317002] Maybe im wrong but, I read it that majority characters(toons, avatars etc) has most class on lvl 15 .. OHHH MY GOOOOD what a suprise when lvl 15 is required as subclass for job :)
btw its described in article maybe someone should read it first
Edit : on topic
I subbed for 3 months (it just few € anyway), sure as new MMO it has same issue but it isnt game breaking for me (atm)
1.Many of you complains about "bad start", actualy i have pretty good one. Excluding one day when i cant got to game about 40 minutes it was usualy in around 2-5 minutes and 2-3 relogs/client restart (yay lucky me maybe :D)
2.server "lag issue" , i agree that this looks bad, but on ther other side until SE fix it (hopefully) i can live withit. Just need to set our mindset that we can freely go to "ongoing animation" without taking any dmg
3. RMT : lack of right click-blacklist isnt game breaking but my lazyness screaming out :D.. anyway after baning 20-30 ppl I found RMT less and less spaming my chat window
4. DF never ever expected "reserving instances" for more then 30sec usualy going AK with friends (4/4)
I'm sorry, but this excuse honestly don't hold.
As a consumer it's completely irrelevant how old the game is. People look to get value for their buck, and are naturally going to compare the game to it's competitors. In this case, being a subscription based game, it's going to be compared with World of Warcraft. If you can't satisfy potential customers by providing a similar quality in gaming experience as it's competitors, then why exactly would someone decide to pay and spend time on a sub-par product?
Beyond the lack of compelling end game, this game suffers heavily from feeling extremely clunky and unresponsive. Almost everything you do, have a built in animation lag along with server latency, and as such anything that requires your attention, such as moving out of effects and interrupting abilities feel more like a game of chance than anything. Again, to compare to World of Warcraft, there is never. Ever. That you're not at fault for your own death or failures. Interrupting an ability? It responds instantly. Moving out of a telegraphed attack? It syncs up perfectly. Unfortunately, from a quality end-game perspective World of Warcraft is light years ahead of this game and will continue to be so for as long as people accept and expect a sub-par experience just on behalf of it being a new game.
People has not patience. I will stay here to see the pvp, big raids, housing, lag fixes, new lvl cap and new jobs.
Goodbye to the people that leaves. I supose a lot of them will come back after 2.1 anyway.
I wonder how the expected population drop will actually affect the dynamics of the game. Less people mean the zergs on FATEs would be smaller and thus take longer than they do now. When I play in off peak and there are only 2-3 actual FATE groups, each FATE will take ~5 mins, as opposed to 30 seconds. When you factor in the time it takes for FATEs to spawn, which is pretty random, dungeons may edge in as equal or better experience... for anyone that isn't DPS at least, lol. It may even get people to use Leves for their battle classes too.
Long story short, get your battle classes up before the FATE zerg potentially disappears if you want everything max level asap. I wonder if this is what Yoshi and the team meant when they said it would balance out and correct itself.
yes and no, lets take northen thanalan as an exampler, the area have 4 fate that give a lot of exp: 2 gather fate, Chimera and DD chain. Usually with the massive Zergs festival, ppl just ruin the exp gain potential from the 2 gather fate by turn the item in and finish it within the first 2 min and not turn in the last 2 min and lost like near 100k exp.
It is true that it take longer with chimera fate with 1 pt, but with a PT I can lvl faster by do the 2 gather fate and DD
The you will be back strategy doesn't work to well. People get busy with other games, they get busy with friends, school, jobs, relationships, having children, volunteering, a new job, a second job, or even just a good book.
People like saying people will be back because they enjoy the game. (I do too) but a lot of people who leave especially this early, won't be.
People leave, I can go to an instance without reserving it for ages. That's my expectation.
It is obvious what will happen. When SE sees people not subbing, they will be forced to fix those flat asses, so the game will become playable.
I find combat a bit frustrating (like clearly being out of AOEs but still being hit by them) and not being able to target/see fate bosses/party members and other things so I mostly stick to crafting and gathering in the hopes that they'll fix most of it by 2.1/2.2.
Fortunately crafting and gathering is fun. I make it something of a game to try to reach my next gil benchmark. Like I'm currently 20k shy of 1.5 mil - next goal 2 million etc. lol
While I don't disagree with you, your example in regards to the gather FATEs is more about playstyle than the FATEs themselves, essentially having an XP party FATe'ing (or vice versa). If players still do the gather events simply by gathering and killing enough to finish it, the experience gains definitely won't be that high.
I also think FATEs like Gorgimera and Svanna require a certain number of players in the zone to spawn. Even with smaller numbers it will be a great change; did Gorgimera during off peak with about 3 or so groups, and it was going well until everyone ignored the adds, they stacked up and ended up mobbing healers one by one. Zerg mentality ignores certain mechanics of FATEs, and once the population is normalized people might start doing them properly, and become better players for it.
I cant wait for all the pricks to go away when the subs start, its bad for a game to be popular after all.
I will continue subbing since the game is good and it will become better once all the @*!&^#&! are gone :)
I just hope the kiddies who think theyre entitled to being carried in bad gear / standing in shit, leave. If I did not have to deal with them, people would find I am less rude.
This game is lucky in a sense that there isn't really any MMOs coming out soon and Wow is in a twilight stage of its expansion during which people generally don't like to return. Still this game has too many issues that will easily make a good portion of the population bail. Tera, GW2, TSW and Rift all had much smoother launches than this and they still fell apart within months (Well Rift lasted a little longer). People will not take the "It's new" excuse for the lack of content and the existing problems, the MMO market is a very narrow field where no game other than Wow has been able to hold a stable population for years and SE sure as hell isn't looking like they are going to do better.
lol well done. /like
many good people will leave and many will stay, every mmo has a mix of good and bad, ff has never been immune to that.
i definately plan on staying for a long time.
A casual player as always, but stay in games for the long haul. i still sub to ff11 for many many years now as well as wow, rift, tera(least played though) etc.
if se continues to try at least to supply content for ALL playstyles they will succeed beyond their expectations.
dont lean too far casual..and definately not too far hardcore style or subs will suffer too much.
that is the mistake of all mmos. lets face it, se wants profit..profit> anything. its always always about money so provide equally rewarding playstyle content and ppl will stay se.
the population will dwindle as expected, ffxiv will survive as every mmo does, to what degree....is 100% up to se
Wait, you are comparing End Game content to a game that have been out 10+ years to a Game that have just reboot and only a Month in? Of course there will be more Content in Wow. This is why I hate people keep comparing game to wow especially content because it is not a fair comparison with a game that been out a lot longer.
I put down for 3 months already, just because I am pretty sure I will need at least that much time, especially given I have ..I think 8, Characters now. Plus while I thought I was getting decent, Titan has dissuaded me from that belief. ;)
wont sub. Will sub if server delay issues are fixed for me as EU player:-)
Bought The Secret World, will Play this in the meantime :D
I'm already subbed. I bought the game at its original launch and never bought it again, so I am already on a sub.
As for what this game is lacking, you're all forgetting that this game was made in two years which is HALF the normal development cycle for a AAA MMORPG. I'd say they did pretty damn good with the time that they had.
As for comparing the game to vanilla WoW you pretty much have to in terms of the AMOUNT of content but the QUALITY of the content should be compared to WoW now.
This game has some rough edges but it's a good game at its core. It will never go F2P (FFXI is proof of that) and it'll be around for another 10+ years. Easily.
What you think will people players leaving, are most likely going to be low players leaving because of the end of the world neysayers at 50 saying "GIL IS GONNA DISSAPEAR!!!" "OMG REPAIR PRICES WON"T DO INSTANCES!!1!!" and other nonsense that drove a lot of people to believe them. The whole bored 50's leveling alts by running around doing fates so that solo new players barely can do any of them, let alone enjoy them. The whole bored higher levels wanting to skip cutscenes and curse and berate people for watching them. The whole experienced player base yelling and cursing at new players that don't know the instance and haven't quite figured out tanking yet even though they're on an archer and refuse to wait for threat build up.
Notice a trend here? This game has a toxic community already. It's got to go or it will bring the game down, the game won't die from itself. If the game dies it's because the players playing it poisoned it.
I can tell you for 100% sure that by the 90 day mark we are going to be lucky to have a quarter of the population we have now. SE made a very stupid move by forcing people into dungeons to advance the story and grind gear. I am a low level tank and every time I want to do a dungeon I am forced into a queue. As the game gets more and more top heavy the lower level players are going to be screwed. Not to mention the fact that 90% of the players that I have played with make me want to punch my screen because they suck so bad.
SE made this game way to HARD for casuals and its making my progression take way to long. Because I get forced into groups that keep failing over and over because people have no common sense. I may give this game another month, I am not sure yet. But as it stands right now I am unsubscribed unless I see some sort of change being made.

Check the info on those charts. Most players are no where near end game. I'd say you're going to be surprised when the endgame situation isn't as explosive as you expect.
I am not doing it wrong I am getting stuck with crappy people who suck at playing. DPS that can't DPS, Healers who can't heal! The game does not allow for human error thus failure after failure. And that makes the game NOT FUN! It took me two hours to get past ifrit because I kept getting stuck with really bad players.
P.S. you can trust me on this your going to see a HUGE player drop at the 90 day mark. Hopefully there will be enough players left to make the game fun to play!
Have to agree with you on the huge player drop. As much as I enjoy the game, they're in for a rude awakening. I do believe starting around now and 90 day mark we will see subs start to dip quite a bit for a multitude of reasons:
1. Leveling is too boring and way too quick, for ALL classes(including DoL/DoH)
2. Economy is screwy for many sub-reasons that I will not list(most of you know what they are)
3. Everyone just rushs to max level with FATEs.
4. Endgame is bonkers(and totally bass ackwards, I feel bad for hardcore raiders who won't have anything new to do in 2.1 other than more recycled primal fights)
5. Holiday season, other games will be coming out.
List goes on, but you get my point.
While I don't think this game is that difficult(although I will admit there are a TON of bad players, mostly ps3 players i've noticed), this is the easiest game to hit the level cap in that I've played in a long time. Was WAY too fast.
Edit: Just realized I read what you were saying wrong. Although they did release with not much end game content, it was an established game where people spent months to years with their character. It's much easier to keep playing that. It's much harder to convince me to stay in a game when I just started.
FFXIV is a solid game, but a lot of people I know(yeah yeah I know I know, doesn't mean EVERYONE is quitting blah blah) are not subbing even for the 1st month. They're going to wait and see what 2.1 does, which I think is the smartest thing to do right now. Game probably should've launched when 2.1 actually comes out. It's painfully obvious they ran out of time/content in the 40s(mostly 45-50), and half-arsed their "endgame" content so they could say that they have an endgame.
It's true though, when people say that launch is EXTREMELY important...but the other thing that is extremely important is the first few patches AFTER launch that will make or break the game. SWTOR, WAR(although that game had a multitude of problems but the fact of the matter is they didn't try to address ANY of them with the first 6 months or longer). We know how TOR and WAR went -_-
No pvp yet.... no actual raids yet..... incomplete game, No thanks, just hoping for a Wildstar release!
I haven't been playing for the past few days. Prob not going to play again until some friends catch up so I can help them gear. Maybe that will give me something to do.
ProbAbly won't stay due to pricks at the end game. I'm not all about rudeness and creeps.
Honestly if people are leaving due to no end game, they're honestly people that don't belong playing any MMO in all seriousness. They're the type of people to complain about anything, so let them leave. Good riddance, maybe it'll improve the toxic community.
Jinko, you always make really sharp observations and I usually agree with you. You can't be saying because another game by an insanely cheap and lazy developer is the bar by which all new MMO content should be judged? Activision Blizzard is the very definition of being "good enough" and not going the extra mile
