I'm happy I saw this too... I've been trying to register my credit card through Firefox, maybe that's been the problem this whole time.
I managed to buy 3000 crysta via paypal and that will get me through the first 3 months... so after that I'll try credit card again through IE perhaps.
Has anyone figured out this problem yet? I have tried using paypal and game time cards(bought a $20 card which is uselss now) in addition to using 3 different credit cards. With the credit cards I get error 601, and my payment through paypal and ultimate game time cards are rejected. I have 4 more days to play and thats it :-(. I am not sure why they make it so hard for us to pay them.
I dont have an addon called Noscript so thats not the problem here
That "Renew Subscription" option isn't there for me at all... I did buy EU game time cards to try but had nowhere to input them. I tried every option and idea listed here including PayPal and Ultimateplay and nothing works. I have roughly 36 hours left on my game time. I guess I may be buying GTA V after all...
So I have one more day. ONE DAY SE! I really want to enjoy your game. I tried to register with ultimatePay but that website is garbage! It didn't even let me register without having system errors preventing me from joining. I tried to buy Crysta, but you don't want our money. I searched online for Time Cards for the NA game. No such luck. What do we as customers have to do to get you to listen to our issues. WE CANT PAY FOR YOUR GAME AND YOU WONT HELP US!!! And don't give my that carp that it's my banks fault....again!!!! There are sufficient number of us posting here, and many MANY more that don't post here, that are raising awareness to you. Get you act together and provide a professional service to us so we can continue enjoying your game
I honestly don't care if spamming posts is against the rules. If they don't fix this I won't be able to play anyway... so fix it

In other news, the renew subscription only appeared because I had entered already a 60 day time card.
Btw I think the time cards are the same for all considering there's a store here that sells just US region games and they have about 5 time cards for FFXIV 60 days, and all of them have the same packaging as the EU one. The lady said the same card can be used for PC/PS3.
I tried speaking with my bank again, who once again stated that my account is ok and after waiting I few days I still get the same error. I ended up buying a second copy of the game and opening a new account in a region that allows me to buy Crysta and I purchased 4500 Crysta.
I was just having this issue (in regards to subscribing) using Chrome. Did the unspeakable and loaded up Internet Explorer and managed to get through the payment issue without problem.
Yea, same thing with my friend. We thought it was my computer so he booted up his old dell and used IE, and it worked. Went on IE on my comp for me and it went though just fine, looks like maybe Chrome is the issue? Lord only knows

Already sent a ticket to support.
Trying to register and pay for subscription, total of EUR4.00 got deducted and never reversed, full amount of subscription did though.
Using IE did not work as well.
EDIT: now am getting 601 Error. So cant even try to register a payment anymore...

Aye, having payment issues as well unfortunately, who knows what it is, lot's of 401 and 601 errors on my end as well. Hopefully SE will get it worked out. I get the feeling we will see more of these issues crop up as people have to start paying as there is something that isn't quite working. I've already taken note that some people in FFXI haven't been able to pay as well and have gotten these issues.
My free subscription period just ended and im having the same issue as above 401 or 601 tried firefox and ie different cards and methods paypal etc nothing worked

I tried to register my brothers account today, he wasn't a legacy 1.0 player so I brought him the digital collectors edition to get him early access. Long story short I get the same error code 401 for 3 different credit cards. Visa. Mastercard and Ammex.
Funnily enough I was a legacy player and therefore didn't need to apply any additional codes to get CE items, and the Mastercard worked the first time.
So to anyone who has SE stating there is a problem with the cards / bank, this is just not true. I had multiple cards denied on this account before trying the same card on my account and it was fine.
I believe that this is simply a problem with certain users who had brought the digital CE edition. Can anyone confirm this?
I'm having the same issue trying to renew my legacy account. Funny enough this is the same kind of issue I saw a few months before the end of 1.0 :(
I can't believe months latter we still have this issue.
Many people will have this problem when they activate their payment and they will go.
This is frustrating as hell.
This game and FFXI have given me the same problems. (only this 2 games)
I had to do the FFXI payments on the 360 (could never pay on the pc)
This is ridicilous. My payment fee using the very same card went through however my GF is getting error 401 each time she attempts to register the card.
Tried diffrent type of card too same deal got no words for this.

Yeeeep. I've been dealing with the same issues the past few days, opened a ticket yesterday, said I had only 2 days remaining, and in the past hour it 90000'd me out of the game to tell me that my account is no longer able to access the game.
I'd love to be able to pay, but I seem to be unable.
I also can not pay for my subscription... Getting the 601 error code. If square does not want my money then i will take it some place else.
By the way, i have tried using Chrome and IE10 but it does not work still. There is nothing wrong with my card, i have used it today in the store and it worked fine.
I have this same issue trying to register a payment option, but what is strange is that my husband used the same card and it worked for him. What gives? Can we get some attention on this one please, we just want to give you money....why won't you take our money?:confused:

Well, I was able to apply a game card, no credit card/crysta/changing browser or contacting support worked...Am amazed at the way they are handling an MMO...they should be ashamed...low quality F2P MMOs have handled their product in much professional way than these SE people...

I have been trying to subscribe to more than 30 days, as per support EU page, its says "longer than 31 days as well as retainer usage fees are not yet determined". For US players I can see other than 30 days subscription plans already implemented. At least maybe that's one of the reasons for payment failure...

Yeah, i'm having same problems here too :/. I was playing just fine after the trial ends, so i went to subscribtion and did it all but received same errors same with you guys. i get this error 401 and 601

Been trying to sort this out over the last couple of weeks. I opened up a ticket on sept 2nd because I wanted to buy the CE upgrade for my 1.0 legacy account. This is the result so far:
Sep 2: Open ticket because credit and debit cards won't go through to buy CE upgrade.
Sep3-14: Tried multiple Credit and debit cards with multiple banks, none worked. Signed up for ultimatepay only to have their website return errors during registration and login(conclusion is that service is a no go).
Sep 15: Get a message from SE saying it's my banks fault and that they may have locked the credit card option of paying for my account for the next month due to my trying to get the card to process(thanks for the late warning SE). Respond to their message asking for a solution. Still no reply. Opened up another ticket just to be sure.
Sep 16: Tried paypal to buy crysta. The payment goes through. Breath sigh of relief.
Sep 17: Notification from SE stating crysta purchase failed to purchase through paypal because paypal refused to send out funds. Check Paypal, funds left account, funds were returned to account because "the seller CANCELED this payment". I try to buy crysta again through paypal. Crysta buying option is assumed to be locked now for the next 24 hours. Tried IE to purchase with debit card again today, failed. Opened another ticket about the paypal funds being canceled on SE end. Searched online for NA time cards, none exist. Wrote a lengthy reply for everyone elses and their records.
Can we get this fixed already? If you just let us buy digital codes for time from you, amazon, bestbuy, the street pharmacist down the street, this wouldn't even be an issue. In what backwards world did you think your billing system was flawless if you have this many people sending in reports of failed purchases?!
I am getting the same issue... now I can't play because my Legacy trial ended and they will not register my payment method. I don't think SE wants my money? I just want to play FFXIV... why won't you let me do that SE?
And I've submitted 2 tickets and the two responses basically said that it is my credit card or my financial institution at fault... which does not make sense because I used the same credit card to purchase FFXIV ARR from SE's online store. They really need to straighten this out. SHEEESH!!!!!!!!
Here is my situation.
I am a version 1.0 FFXIV player. Everything went smoothly as far as the free upgrade, preordering for early access, and then yesterday happened. I noticed that there was 1 day left on the free trial. So I tried to register a payment through Mog Station. It won't go through no matter what I try. I'm in Canada (living here now, husband is Canadian) and my account is a US account. After waiting for 2 hours for a customer service agent in their billing/accounting department, I was told that the "601" error I was receiving is because I'm trying to pay to a US account from Canada. Region doesn't match, Canadian currency vs US currency, blah blah blah. So basically what I got from the guy was that my mother could log into my account, use my credit card, and pay for it since she's in the US.
So.. I'm feeling a bit relieved and I call her. She follows my instructions and registers my card for the 90 day payment of the game. At the VERY end.. she said "It's saying it's got maintenance." But when I logged into it, I had a subscription for 90 days, and automatic renewal. (Yay! I thought) So today I go to log into the game. No dice. First thought.. "Wtf?" so I check my bank acount. I see the "minimum" $1 USD payment on my bank statement. No payment for the $41.97 for the 3 months. Mog Station tells me that my account is inactive and I have no current subscriptions. Again.. "Wtf?" So I try to register my husband's credit card thinking I'm in Canada and maybe using a Canadian credit card will work and it's a Canadian ip address. Wrong again. I got the Error 401 and to clarify when I was using my American credit card from a Canadian ip address (the wonderful CS agent told me this too) that you will get the 601 error code.
So being in Atlantic Canada and my mother is in California (4 hour difference!) where I'm from.. I have to wait hours until it's not 5am in the morning. And when the time comes.. I have to pray that it goes through and I can play again. My husband's account on the other hand... works just fine. No interruption at all. Only he hasn't gotten his 90 day veteran rewards yet. So maybe everything isn't so great yet.
That's what I'm dealing with. =/
Okay. Update. I saw that the last thing that I tried was PayPal (before getting my mom involved) to buy Crysta to pay for my subscription. Well they refunded me the $42 because they cancelled the transaction. This is just really ridiculous. When I tried updating it with PayPal a couple of days ago it said it didn't go through. Obviously it did and changing the payment method yesterday cancelled it. GG SE.
Also got those errors, tried paying about 7 times, so i hope that doesnt mean i can't play for a long time.
Think we all have to spam our problem in the forums here so SE notices it.
The more people will type here the more serious they will take the problem.
No payment methods are working for my boyfriend. Luckily, I had already saved a payment method on my account. He, however, had not..and is now suffering from this issue. None of his cards are declined anywhere else. Only on Square Enix's subscription option page lol. We tried every single card we own.
He can't play now because the trial ended and they won't take our money. What fucking gives!
I mean damn, if we could buy a Time Card....that would be nice.
Tried Crysta with all his cards...didn't work...Tried paypal. Both his and mine won't work. Same error...601 and then 401. WTF?
You'd think since this problem is ONGOING and has been going on for a while, it seems, they would have noticed by now? Strange.....
I to am getting the error and worst yet, they have charged me £1 for using my card, I know this as I checked my balance before and had more then enough to cover the sub, then I checked again (to make sure my payment had not gone through) and discovered that I have been charged £1...
Very disappointed I cant play right now as its one of my few days off.
EDIT: Just managed to renew using crysta, simply use the paypal option (through Ultimate Pay) you can specify the amount to top up (its 899 crysta for a months sub).
