You paid the same price any other person would pay. You just paid for it earlier. Are you seriously freaking out because there is a three hour emergency maintenance to fix issues on launch day?

Wait, I have another question. Have you ever played any other MMO at launch? Emergency maintenances, hotfix patches, etc, are all part of the world of newly-launched MMOs. It comes with the territory. At least we had the option to download/update the client without having to go pick it up at the store first. That's probably the most agonizing part of MMO launches of the past.

A lot of this is just conjecture, as none of us are aware of the test cases that were gone through in both server. It could be that the JP server do in fact have the same issues, but in order to keep the product available, they are working on the NA servers first, then the JP servers after.

And these responses aren't anything more than conjecture as we are not aware of the nature of the problem, not to mention any server hardware that they are using.

come on OP, calm down they are doing there best, nothing is flawless in life.
I'm pretty sure after all the hard work and money they put into remakeing this game for our sake, they are not causeing these problems intentionaly.
They are most likely just as furstrated about these small bugs happening.

Show me an MMO that has absolutely no issues on launch day (no maintenance, no server restarts, no hotfix patches) and I will shut up and say everyone's anger is justified.

Back in my day, preordering the game meant I could go pick it up from the store on launch day. If the launch was big enough, you could even pick it up at midnight the night before. Everyone preordered the game if they wanted to play on launch day because it meant they wouldn't have to wait for the store to get another shipment in, or hope that there would be extras. You paid early to get access on launch day.

Now this will blow your minds. Assume Early Launch = Launch day. Then, next week, people who didn't preorder the game can go pick it up and start playing. We're using different terminology, but it is the SAME effect. (Granted, when you preorder a game from gamestop, you aren't required to pay in full until you pick up the game, but people could have ordered the digital copy just a day ago and still gotten early access... so the effect is the same.)

If you replace "Early Launch" with "Launch day"
and "Official Launch" with "A week after the game launches"

It's the same thing.

Please note that promising you "Early Launch" access was SE's marketing tactic to make it look like preordering the game was something brand new and necessary.

Yes, this kind of stuff usually pops up during launch.

I only logged on briefly at 2am to make sure I could and that my account was as I left it. Just woke up to log in and everything has gone to hell. Not surprised at all. No point in getting worked up over it since it's typical of launch.

You would think that with EA requiring pre orders that they'd have some idea of the numbers involved. You'd think that they learned about some of the problems they'll encounter with OB. But as is often the case, the host has underestimated the number of players and overestimated the power of their hardware and network.

I've done many MMO launches and would not agree with this. The multiple crappy websites you have to deal with just to get the game setup, the problems with codes all week and sites down/up, OB problems (some not resolved during OB), telling us they know there will be outages and queues instead of handling the situation better (when they know it's not going to be smooth), continual shoddy communication - all fairly poor. I've experienced far better many times. It's still not a big deal.

Seriously though, everybody. This sort of thing happens every single time a AAA MMO title is released. Not just some of the times, every time it happens. Always. Without fail. SE dropped the ball, you say? I agree. Then again, there hasn't been an MMO that hasnn't fumbled at release in one way or another.

I'm not saying this to White Knight SE, or give them an excuse, or anything like that. I'm just saying that we all really need to calm the heck down and wait for the issues to be resolved. In fact, truth be told (unless this is your first MMO), you really should have gone into this expecting there to be some issues. That way, you don't start hyperventilating and losing it when said issues do occur. Everyone, just relax. Things will be resolved soon enough.

It's amazing how far people will go to defend a failure. "Oh its SE, you should expect things like this, atleast it isn't as bad as X". This is not a company launching their first MMO, and it isn't even their second if you want to consider 1.0 and 2.0 separate launches. They have a reasonable idea what to expect and decided that the game was ready for the masses. I am not getting upset and flaming SE, but I still think its a very poor way to start things off.

Pretty sure there is a slight difference between BF3 and a persistent MMO world ... and wasnt BF3 hosted on local servers or was that bad company I always get confused with those games.

Also you need to check your facts about the d3 release / beta, I was maybe able to play a total of 5 hours between the first few days of d3 release and beta because of how much their system shat its pants because they couldnt handle all the single players being forced to use their online gateway crap.

Just because it's a problem with others doesn't stop making it a problem. The fact remains, the companies are responsible for what happens.
I'm not angry at Square. I'm not bitter about the wait. I'm just keeping the blame where it's due.

Square isn't bad or evil for this. They just made another mistake. One I hope they can learn from to make the experience better in the future. That's all.

I'll mention one from my experience, Uncharted Waters Online(Global version) Now, since the expansions, I'm suffering an "Failed to Install necessary data" error. It's a program error that Koei should be coming into Netmarble's aid....

no balls were dropped in the making of Early Access.

SE did however go in into Early Access Half Cocked and clearly counted there Chocobo's before they hatched.

This is their first time launching an MMO with regional datacenters in Montreal. The JP servers were tested for a long time before launch, which is why they've worked out the kinks. That's why the JP servers have no issues while the NA/EU ones do. I'm personally happy that they've finally decided to put datacenters in NA. As a player on the East Coast with a not-so-great ISP, getting hit by AoEs in Ifrit (Extreme) no matter how much I dodged due to latency was probably one of the more frustrating things about 1.0. They're launching these servers to alleviate these problems and make a better game.

I won't say... "It's SE, you should expect things like this." I will say... "It's Launch Day for an MMO, you should expect things like this."

Three hours guys. Three hours.

Man that was some great maintenance. So many thing got fixed. I especially like how they got rid of all the colors and I really like the endlessly spinning white icon in the bottom right of my screen. Its super entertaining

Except it's not something else, it's never been something else, it's been the same problem over and over again.

I get that there will always be issues at launch, but this isn't even a launch issue, it's been around since beta just like all the 1.0 issues that drove away so many people. Just because you may not want to hear people complaining does not mean they don't have a legitimate complaint.

That's some serious cognitive dissonance you have going on there. I'm not going to continuously lower my expectations after every successive failure on SE's part; it'd be foolish to lie to myself over the quality of something I paid for.

You're telling me that it's acceptable for an issue that was prevalent in beta, that locked people out of properly testing the game for almost the full weekend and prompted SE to bring down the servers multiple times, is still present on the paid version of the game? And that even after bringing down the server for maintenance, the bug is still there? As an isolated incident, the 3 hour (turned 1) maintenance isn't a big deal. However, in context of everything that's happened leading up to now, it's just unacceptable.

I'm sorry, but telling me it's phase 5 beta/not really launch/everyone else sucks too doesn't justify it for me, and I doubt it'll justify it for any new players checking out the game.

I've played 15+ LAUNCH day MMOs, and in every single one of them, my main story quest wasn't hindered, and I was certainly able to run instances. Stop being ignorant and realize the problems STILL at hand. Even after an emergency maintenance they persist.

I didn't post what I posted because "I didn't want to hear it" (although, to be honest, it is getting somewhat monotonous :P). No, I posted what I posted to tell everyone to chill out. Problems happening like this, whether they've been around for a few days or a few weeks, doesn't necessarily mean SE is not trying to resolve the problem, or haven't been trying before now. It just means the problem's not resolved yet. And no amount of "SE SUX!11!! Dey didnt maek purfekt lawnch!!11" Will help matters much. Just be patient. I'm sure they're working on it.

I don't think you're getting the point. Your opinions are fine and dandy but you have no authority whatsoever. If you don't like it, don't read it but don't come into a thread where someone is indeed having a legitimate problem, like say being completely unable to progress in any quests, and start telling people what they are and aren't allowed to post about.

Again, you miss the point (also your opinion on my emotional state is noted, erroneous, but noted). People don't really have to listen to anything you say and have every right to complain whether you like it or not. You may be willing to accept these issues because it's launch, other people might not. Other people might even get upset and decide to post about it and believe it or not, telling someone who's upset to calm down and stop complaining does absolutely nothing whatsoever to help (with either their frustration or their actual issue). So, again, if you don't like it, don't read it.

They really did have a LONG time to do an open server test to find out this was going to happen, and I'm really infuriated. I will not subscribe to this and I've told gamestop to switch my money to Killzone Merc on vita.

SE is not getting another dime from me until this is resolved, and if not by monday they'll never get another dime from me.

It is effective, people google FFXIV and find the truth and do not buy the game, or resubscribe if they are returning players. This is actually the best way to deal with these jokers these days, keep backhanding them every time they make a poor game with a poor release and soon enough investors will not allow them to make these choices.
