Well this is disappointing :(

It's not going to do much in the way of leaving a good first impression on some people who are joining us for the first time either. When you consider people were up in arms over the selection in the Alpha, how will people react to (I assume) a mostly unchanged system from the Alpha? It's all good and well to notify these players that so and so is coming in phase 3 but as I've said, I think first impressions are important.
We've seen nothing of the other classes yet though, I thought we may have seen some previews in the Blog but their plan to update twice a week seems to have gone forgotten.
from Yoshi showing off gameplay in Germany last year, i translated skills that he mouse-over. and DRG had exact same skills as before, so i expect the other classes to have same skills too :) Though i guess they may have changed a little, i don't think it's any big difference. The biggest change is probably just in GCD.
Because roadmap isn't clear enough on the content being restricted in phase 1-2?
You assume to much by saying unchanged system, since alpha was outdated even before it started. And they didn't spend these past 2-3 months since alpha started, doing nothing.
People can make their first impressions AFTER beta. You shouldn't even be in beta, if your only concern is demo the game; ditch it based on incomplete content.
You'll also find this disappointing:

I do not assume too much. Have we been shown otherwise? We have not. It has also been stated that the battle system will not be undergoing any dramatic changes from what was seen in the alpha/alpha videos. You might assume it has changed whereas I assume otherwise. These are called opinions!
The reason I went out of my way to put "I assume" in brackets was to signal to the largely impossible reader base that it is purely speculation; my opinion. I had hoped the alarming amount of imbecility on this forum could get no worse..
My concerns for what I want to do in the beta are personal and up to me to decide and luckily, not up to you. I have a criteria of things I'd like to see, and I will devoutly test the things I find most interesting. Lastly, I don't need convincing to play the game and if you bothered to read my comment thoroughly you may find that my concern was not for myself, it is for those who have yet to play the game - those who will have the most impact on FFXIV's future.
Question keeps getting answered over and over and over... like I said it isn't like only alpha testers knew this information. Guess I didn't even need to go to the top floor of that skyscraper to answer it. LIKE I SAID HAS NOTHING TO DO with the NDA what guild have always been in Grid...
I wonder how many people will level their jobs to 35 to test out the new 35 dungeons only to get reset and have to do it all over in phase 2. Wonder if there will be boosted exp to test the higher dungeons without going through the leveling process so many times.
Oops posted this in wrong thread. Was supposed to be for this thread.

It's actually only one phase to really test and provide feedbacks...
Wonder how much testing we can do just with phase 3 for the other classes.
Phase 4 is pretty much open beta, and demo for the PS3 players as YoshiP said. (He assumes PS3 players in beta will want to play the game instead of 'test'). Don't think it's good to have major bugs 'if any' in a demo imo. Demo supposed to be appealing and make players 'want' to play more and buy the finished product.
I guess time and players feedback in phase 3 will tell...
So... there won't be any fishing?

It's from Bakemonogatari iirc.
Yep, is. It's a scene I'll never ever be able to forget, because for around a month I was positive that the small-smile-then-break-down-crying scene was Nagato's from the Haruhi movie, where Kyon is arguing with himself. I was so positive that I watched the movie twice in a row to see if I could catch it.
Not sure how I made that mistake, but man it drove me crazy for ages.
EDIT: My weeaboo is showing <.< >.>
Guys, i think you must learn to actually read :/
The main events in phase one will be testing the FATE system, you wont need a thousand classes for this.
They must do testing on how many actually runs to the event, how many needs to be shown at once etc.
OB is demonstration, CB isn't
It says in Beta Roadmap: Battle System Rebalancing; So yes, you assume to much when you say nothing will change :)
No we haven't been shown otherwise, but we haven't seen anything from beta, and haven't heard any details :)
*Assume* doesn't sound like speculation, perhaps you should have typed *I'm guessing* instead.
I find it funny you're commenting on me not understanding your post based on *I assume* when you didn't understand my post :) the only *critique* i was pointing at you, was that you assume that the system wont have changed anything. And right, it's 2 different opinions; so why are you complaining at me for my opinion, if you think commenting on opinions is wrong?
Really... "I had hoped the alarming amount of imbecility on this forum could get no worse.." for saying you assume to much? Sorry but you got no right to complain on me, when you sprout such stuff.
Oh, and since when did i say anything about deciding anything for you? what you wanna do in beta or otherwise?
Just like you assumed i didn't understand your post, you're not understanding my post. My comment was in general terms, that people who just wanna demo the game, and have no patience for helping improve the game, shouldn't even be in CB.
Like i said at the start, they can demo the game in phase 4 OB, when game is largely complete. Ditching a game based on incomplete content, in CB is just stupidity; especially since the roadmap is quite clear on what each phase contains, and what's to come. And again, that's not aimed at you, but those new players you were talking about. If they don't like phase 1, they can just come back later, when there's new content, and test it again.
Don't be so quick to call people imbeciles, when they misunderstand you, when you misunderstand others in turn; it happens easily on the internet.
If you're not sure if you're breaking NDA, best not to type anything really.
Well, this is genuinely disappointing.
Nothing to be disappointed about, were here to primarly test not play the game in full and your job is very important, feedback is key. This time SE is listening so all the testers need to report bugs and give feedback when you find it.
The quicker the bugs are squished and feedback is given the quicker SE can move us onto the next phase :)
Seeing how my main is BLM,LNC,MNK i don't really see a issue with just testing LNC again lol. I really do want to play monk and see how it change but i guess i have to wait ;(
CNJ seemed weak and boring in alpha, so i hope they improved it. Otherwise only LNC, and ARC will be fun to play.
Otherwise only hardcore people will play CNJ to high lv; so it will be hard to test FATE and instances, if there's hardly any CNJ around even.
Or party will be quite important for CNJ specifically.
diffrent job setups can extremly change the outcome of a fight imo. with only LNC WHM and ARC its hard to tell if you should balance FATE because with maybe BLM PLD and WAR the fight could change drastically when it comes to make strategies. so i wonder how you can balance something thats just not there :O
Its a beta test, the character data is going to be deleted anyway. Is it really "disappointing" that you can't play the class you want to play at release?
Personally, I know I'll be able to see bugs, possible exploits, and "bad ideas" on any class I play.
Just cause we cant play it, doesn't mean devs cant play it :)
It's not ONLY players testing the game. I'm sure the devs are competent enough to not mess it up completely. Then i don't think tactics are gonna change so much anyways; because i think it will be similar to what it was before. It's not like it's a completely new FF game, with totally new classes and skills...
Well, in my opinion, it's disappointing because testing abilities to see if they work properly and overall battle balance is also a vital part of the testing process. With 3/7 jobs out, testing for that is going to be hard.
For example, apart from overall battle balance when playing with all classes, I'm interested in testing Monk, since they already said it was the job that would experience the most extensive changes.
Greetings everyone,
I've updated the original post in this thread to clarify my original statement. While normally you would only be able to play as the classes available in Gridania, please note that as a special exception during Beta Test phase 1 & 2, players will be able to complete specific objectives to unlock the gladiator class. Tanks will be very much needed for content like instanced raids (the level 25 dungeon in particular) and as such the dev. team has made them available for usage!
Eagle-eyed posters already spotted some gladiators in our most recent blog post, too. ;)
Hehe, as you know Ren, I'm the same. :D (<3 GLA) I did indeed notice something was up in one of those new blog pics when I saw a Roe GLA in it - now we know why. ^^
Anyway, Bayohne, this is great news. Thank you! :D
A dev post on a Saturday ? What is this madness ?!
I wonder if you can pick Gladiator right off the bat, or do you have to unlock it with quests. Will there be enough quests to hit the beta cap, if they only have starter area would people run out of quests to lvl, or will we get an increased exp rate to test out 25 and 35 dungeons?
