I think it is less about the fact that you don't help the community and more about the fact that it looks like a massive circle jerk 90% of the time you guys post something to alot of people. Especially when you throw people talking about how great their DPS on miser is and how you get "personal" shoutouts from yoshi p into the mix.
On an unrelated note, I didn't know Zd joined you guys, what happened to Emerald Dream Zd?
we generally talk about DPS in relation to specific fights to give people a baseline and a ceiling to expect on those fights, especially when trying to attain certain time-related goals. if you take that as bragging, that's your prerogative- but we're actually trying to help you. any comments about personal shout-outs were clearly facetious and not to be taken seriously.
Eh, the posts I recall about the miser DPS and the yoshi p shout out seemed more like getting defensive over epeen size but then again, internet sarcasm is hard to detect. It is neither here nor there for me though I couldn't care less about either of those things and appreciate the strategies you guys, and anyone else posts because looking at different party set up possibilities and thinking of new ways to do things is what I enjoy doing.
no worries, m8. cheers :)
now let's all harp on nadia to release a video guide to soloing meteors as BRD >;D
I didn't save any videos of our runs where I did that :< I'll make sure to the next time we merc or something!
Though, if anyone is interested, when I do solo the 5 meteor phase I do the north side platform, and my rotation is:
- STR pot
- 1st meteor: Leaden Arrow, Gloom Arrow (may need a single Light Shot)
- 2nd meteor: Bloodletter, Heavy Shot
- 3rd meteor: Rain of Death
- 4th meteor: Quick Nock
- 5th meteor: Barrage
The reason I don't kill 3rd with Quick Nock is that it pops very high, and the 4th meteor (which is level with the platform) pops just as the 3rd comes low enough for me to hit it. If I don't 1-shot the 4th meteor it will quickly be too low to kill, so I run to the edge of the platform, Quick Nock it as soon as it pops, and then 1-shot the 3rd one (which should be just low enough to hit by now) with Rain of Death.
I'll post a video as soon as I do a run where we get 5 meteor phase.
Educational bragging? There's a new term.
Again, not hating on all the guides you guys do, but a little humility goes a long way...
North side is def. soloable by THM/BLM but the problem being South side is impossible for BRD to solo (combo timers and meteor location causes this problem). Obviously, having a BRD that can solo one side, and having one THM/BLM do the other, frees up a spot in the party that can keep full DPS on Nael during this phase.
Is there a problem with taking pride in our accomplishments? Since Garuda, we've never hedged our bets on immediately releasing information, posting all over the forums, showing videos, etc., and with Legatus, we went all-out on "helping the community." Now we have a chance to relish the immense effort and dedication of our members, so fuck yeah, we're going to do that.
Quote:To each his own, good sir.Quote:
Well that's not saying much since the only thing that happened between Garuda and this fight to brag about was relics which you guys weren't even close to worlds first etc... hence why you didn't go out of your way to brag.
Get your egotistical head out of your ass and stop thinking you are helping anyone when your intentions are clearly on the contrary.
so selling white ravens runs somehow magically erases the guide we wrote and advice we've given and accompanying videos we've posted that *a lot* of LSs (NA and JP alike)
either used directly or at least used as reference to beat this fight?
it means any tips we've given in this very thread never existed?
the basic thing i'm seeing here is you effectively suggesting that since you don't like us or what we're doing, something that happened didn't actually happen. weird.
it's like we live in different realities. but to each his own, good sir. to each his own, indeed.
NA 2nd, world 5th or 6th-ish. hard to tell exactly, since JPs don't commonly post in the english forums. and we never made any excuses about that. we just didn't work as hard as other LSs to have our seal prereqs done before it was confirmed they would be used for relic. we started well behind the competition, and though we finished not too long after- we have nobody but ourselves to blame. took us roughly 16 hours of attempts over 4 days to down ifrit with our own strategy, before any actual guides were released, though, so i'd say that's pretty decent.
thems the facts, love it or hate it.
but anyway, i guess we should stop thinking we're helping people even though they frequently tell us we're helping them. because you say so. i guess that's what it boils down to with you and people who share the same attitude. because you say so.
so if things are the way they are because you say so- who is it really that has their heads up their asses?
regardless, you seem to be taking this a little too seriously. this is a fun thread where we're asking people to participate with us and share their times, and we're answering questions people have on how to get their first kills or how to speed up their times or even how to do it the way we just did.
so, please, either post constructively and help people and have fun or MAYBE stop projecting your poor intentions onto us.
Yes, I'm taking it way to seriously! I don't think you understand the point of my post. I'm glad you are guys got your less then 10min win or w/e. Like I said though, get your heads out of your asses, if you are legitimately helping the community (which you aren't and most people can tell by the way you guys present yourselves) that's awesome! Well, some of you actually help, I wouldn't say all of you. I actually see you quite a bit helping people in posts Fusional when you aren't trolling that is. I do thank you for that.
Oh and just because someone may view your videos (which seems to be your only proof that someone actually may use your crap) doesn't mean they kill shit because of you guys lol.
For anyone curious about the WHM perspective, I've finally encoded and uploaded here:

They probably would of beat us to it if they were a bit quicker on the seals, but regardless they have been very helpful to the community either in laying out strats before others do or even just Carraway in his archer guide.
I don't really see a problem in taking pride in a speed run on the only really hard content left..
Ppl just mad nobody is carrying them through content.
I think all he's saying is that comments sometimes come off as arrogant to us plebs. It's like the way I feel about LeBron James: Yes, I know you're good, dude. But just shut the fuck up about it already.
Anyway, it's one thing to say, 'We try our best to help the community.' It's quite another to say, 'We had the world-first X kill. What have you ever done?'
There are also cases of micro-aggressions, so to speak, in which one says something like, 'This is an easy encounter.' Such a comment might seem innocuous enough to you, but when there are countless numbers of us who are still struggling to beat the encounter, it comes off as a sort of slap in the face or a flaunting of unobtainable skill.
I respect what you guys do, and so do most people, probably. But try to look at it from our point of view. The commoners. The people still sporting GC gear. The people who don't have the time or the patience or the motivation to court the wiles of the RNG. 'Helping the community' and 'mercenary work' are incompatible ideas in many minds. So don't be surprised when we get a bit snippy. And getting defensive when we get snippy kind of exacerbates things. Just sayin'.
Anyway, keep on trucking, dudes.
Thanks alexhatesmil, you explained how I was trying to get what I was saying across haha.
wtf is RNG
Random Number Generator, A.K.A system that's used to determine how loot drops for everything in this game.
i'll provide the quote you're (falsely) referencing:
so nothing was ever said about world-anything. (that was addressed in a separate post, sure- but only after someone else brought it up as an intended attack) and as a result, it starts to look like all this is to serve as an excuse to justify a manufactured sense of outrage. and as far as the "what have you done" thing, it was already explained immediately thereafter that a lot of people try to attack us for being unhelpful elitist jerks when we actually seem to do a lion's share of the helping.
we have people *use our guides* and *copy our strats to the letter* only to directly turn around and call us names and accuse us of not helping.
don't you find that a little odd?
then i ask again- does the fact that we're doing mercenary work (in a completely separate thread, mind you) somehow erase any guides or videos or advice or tips we've ever freely handed out to the community? we don't have to do that, you know. and there really aren't many other people doing it. but since we sold some earrings now, that other stuff never happened?
it has nothing to do with getting defensive and everything to do with calling a spade a spade. yes, we merc'd earrings, however, yes... we've also helped the community a lot, regardless of who does or doesn't care to acknowledge it.
we're not offended. we don't have anything against you. we're not even really bothered. it just often gets to the point where it starts being extremely silly, and that's when we finally comment on it. in fact, we generally never even mention what we've done to help people. but when someone tries saying we've done nothing to help, and really don't have much of any basis for that accusation...
well, yeah. then sometimes we'll take a stand.
nobody needs to read our guides or watch our videos or post in our threads or send us tells asking for tips. nobody's being forced to do that. and we're not obligated to provide any of that or to answer questions. but we do. and even if nobody at all used our strats, we'd still do our best to publish them just in case. because a resource is a resource and believe it or not- we are trying to help build community resources for this game.
sometimes people say things the wrong way, or what they say comes off wrong. sometimes they'll say things that are outright rude. i've definitely done it before. so sure, sometimes people will get snippy. that's expected, and not really a problem. we've never expected to be liked by everyone. but, to me, it's just silly to use that as a way to convince oneself that we're actually not doing the community any good, and that we're only here to epeen out all over the place. we rarely even bring attention to ourselves.
this thread was intended to encourage a little friendly competition, to see how others are doing, to help with strats and answer questions, and for people to just generally share info about what we think is the most enjoyable fight in the game.
do we also have something to boast about? yeah, sure. but that doesn't mean that boasting exists in a vacuum and all the rest of the thread or anything else positive just disappears.
anyway, please excuse this verbose, meandering shitstorm of a post. just my 2c. ;3
Sigh. . . I guess you missed that I was being sympathetic to you guys. Defense, defense, defense.
^this :)
Or they can't find 7 ppl willing to work to beat him...or procrastinated...or whatever. Which makes them hate those who can.
I am super-super super hoping my ls can beat him this weekend...I have my entire weekend planned around it...seriously. It took me until last Sunday to even convince them to try it. I pug it whenever I can. I have basically been whm soloing this/running it like I'm training for a marathon...my lala is ready. I will beat him....
But if I don't get him cleared...either because we run out of time before the save, or people give up, or we don't get our full event times in...I will know I did everything in my power....and I will not belittle those who had the talent and friends to get it done.
Verily may have wanted to show this, so I'll steal his thunder: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=cRTwNRPZjj0
I think this was from the day of attempts prior to our 8:48 win. Turned out to be suicide, but it was pretty fun and gave us more than enough confidence that we had the damage needed.
Fixed my aspect ratio issue, updated WHM video link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-OdGrRnGRA
Did anyone else ever try to get a speed run on this? We gave this a passing thought that we may try to prefect it for merc runs but the idea died pretty quick.
I like everyone from BG I've talked with, you guys are pretty kick ass all and all but I don't know what your going for exactly or what kind of place you believe you want to have in the community. You can assume your going to get some resentment from the community who do not know you personally when you style yourself as "the best". (whatever that really means, ya know. For example I think my shell is the best at having fun, and thats most important to me.)
...and why are you so worried about it anyhow? I dunno guys, but cheers to you all and congrats on this regardless. :) It is an astounding accomplishment and you probably blew the dev's minds.
I don't think any of us are worried, but we do find the hate and free PR pretty funny, and some of our members do want to make a concerted effort to clear up any misconceptions there might be about us.
We're certainly elitists, but since when does that need to be a dirty word? We see no shame in wanting to strive to be the best or among the best. Meanwhile, those of us who want to help others will continue to do so regardless of the reception.
Hey carraway, do you guys recommend tanking nael where he ports and having the whms adjust rather than pulling him to the offset middle / somewhere in particular?
If DPS is a concern at all, then I do recommend tanking him wherever he ports. The tank can only generate so much enmity if he's not in melee range. However, a lot of groups are successful with just tanking him in the middle (so that no matter where he ports, the tank is not in danger of getting hit by Lunar Dynamo). I still think that the backline is going to have to adjust if he ports directly opposite the backline's position, putting them at-risk for Lunar Dynamo unless they move.
I would say that if you have any issues with properly skipping the first golem spawn (if that's your goal) or if the fight is going on too long, causing death by attrition, or if you're simply just timing out, you might want to try having the tank run up to wherever Nael ports and having the DPS start right away (while dodging Thermionic Beam/Burst). If time isn't an issue, you can certainly try just maintaining one anchor spot for slightly easier positioning.
Vaguely related: a lot of groups also just let Nael fully charge his Dive and prepare for it with AoE Sanguine Rite/Sentinel/etc. This precludes the possibility of anyone getting hit by Lunar Dynamo when coming down the stairs after Dive, but it also cuts potential DPS time.
^
Our method was to keep him fixed to a local area by the tank. (south end) This seemed to cause his teleports to be in more predictable locations for easy group adjustment. There is a fixed number of locations he can port to. These areas are not too hard to learn and they are always the same so you can know where to be by the ground no matter where he teleports. However the tank needs to dodge dynamo in this situation.
We also did not force a dive. Just gather buff, ride it out and kill, pushing him down in 20% chunks each dive.
Well I think you can expect that by styling yourself that way you would attract that kind of player base to you. It seems kinda contradictory to me that you'd want to try and be elitists and still garner respect from the community.. but I'm having trouble putting that into words to fully describe it. This is offset by the fact that I wouldn't classify the members from BG that I've meet as elitists at all, from my experiences you seem more than willing to help others from a wide range of player and gear ability.. and if thats true for the rest of you why do you encourage the label upon yourselves?
I guess it takes all types because my shell TwoPaths probably wouldn't exist if it wasn't for all the elitists endgame shells on XI. Believe me I'm one that strongly believes that being a good player comes down to a lot more than any kind of natural ability one would find good reason to boast about.
