Sitting here pondering a bit...
I'm sure we're all expecting Arcanist to have things like Poison, Slow, etc. Summoner will have those same abilities, but I'm wondering what types of primal magics the Summoner will get. Like one of each move from the Primals? Or will it be something like a normal nuke? But just not as strong as something a BLM could do.
Primal Essences... Ifrit, Garuda, Leviathan, Titan, Ramuh? Lol I don't expect him to summon a Moogle to do anything, but I know that Jobs only get a handful of extra abilities/skills/magics. A Primal essence for each level of job quests completed, I'm guessing.
Though, I'm not sure if those Primal Essences will be like all nukes or if they'll do other things strictly involving debuffing like an Ifrit Vulcan Burst that induces Burn or something...
Fun stuff.
For moogle, your SMN will blow up into a fat, fluffy version of yourself and float around the arena invunerable to attacks but unable to make any either.
keke
are these real concept arts? If so i guess im ok with this. Though ill be honest i dont like that Arcanist can/will only summon carby. i really hope not. i was hoping for a whole new bunch of summons. well i guess Summoner will play like Yuna from dissidia, where she only summons parts of the summons but shes more a melee, or just a front line mage job.
Sorry for asking stupid question... Arcanist will be new class that starts at level 1, Summoner will be the job to be obtained on that class at level 30?
No, Arcanist will be a class that runs congruent to the Summoner job. Arcanist will specialize in rising the party's stats with carbuncle who is also able to taunt enemies off allies. The Summoner job is the new highspeed highdamage tank for 2.0. It will use heavy armor and has enmity boosting abilities along with debuffs to keep hate.
Idk i guess i was hoping that SE wouldve change up the starting summon from 11. I dont hate Carby i loves soloing the other primals with him that was extremely fun. Just after that i saw less uses for him save for him following mobs that warp around.
Wouldve loved to see Mist Dragon or Something new.
when i really think about ill be sad if Summoner just get watered down version of the free company. I wanna see them have their own cool Primals. like Yoshi said he doesnt want to see mini versions of the Primals, i pray that his vision wasnt let is summon and arm or a leg of the Primals.
Like im sorry i feel it as a cop-out if you just summon like the upper half of ifrit, were i would prefer a full bodied Phoenix or Salamander. am i the only one that feels that way?
yeah but they've already said that smn wasn't going to be summoning primals they want that to be done by the free companies or atleast that's the direction Yoshi-P is wanting to head in so if that's what he's wanting to do I doubt there will be primals except what he's already mentioned as a boss fight for a free company then a one time summons for them
Yeah the one thing I heard about summoning the Primals like the 1 time thing after you defeat them you obtain them until you Summon them in battle then they are gone. I'm hoping that the Summoner's are the ones that have that power, cause I mean it would be weird if they allowed other classes to call upon a Primal, especially without a Summoner in the party.
or it could be a part of the limit break if the leader of the free company is in your party and you have all members of your ls ( at least 7 others with you) then the leader of the ls or one of the sack holders have that option of summoning the primal... that's how i think it may be more like though I won't say for certain until we find out for sure....
I prefer the way the devs are going with summoner and primals. imagine it, it just looks silly with people running around with multiple bahamuts and doomtrains. lmao
For those wondering about the Summoner job, it was stated that they will have more pet varieties. So that implies their summons will not be limited to instant-attacks. However, I do imagine that the summon will not appear exactly as the full primal in size or exact appearance either, to create a visual distinction between summoner's summons and grand company summons.
The animation seems to be the summoner "summoning" an essence, perhaps it will be slightly more full bodied once it is summoned?

Actual book assembly could fall under weaving or alchemy, based on whether thread or glue is used as a binding agent.
*bangs head on desk* neuuuuu no necrologos
and idk how i feel about Carby being a tank lol. I have no strong feelings about this. Its will be new so it could be fun, or it will be absolutly terrible lmao.
What's wrong with Carby tanking it it... what little I played of Smn in Xi (and yes I know that this isn't XI just using it as an example on how I played) was solo and I said f it carby can take all the hate while I help fight. Same with any pet class like that you want the pets to be the damage takers not you. Carby doesn't do you any good when you're dead and they're alive
For most pet classes, the pets they call do the tanking. That is generally their function. At least while soloing.
Of course, when in party, that is usually not necessary so it is great that SE is giving Carby another function so that it will still be useful in a group scenario.
oh i didnt mean it in a bad way. ya carby was good for solo, but then again this game is high link grouped mobs so im not sure how good carby will do compared to a war or pld is what im getting at.
that's just it carby may be able to handle more than one mob to take a little bit off the load off the main tank... I doubt they're meaning carby to be an outright tank in the game remember carby is main focus tank for Arcanist not the Summoner
Arcanist is the class that would be more preferred to soloing over party group like a smn would be
also if you look at the concept art again it doesn't mention carby tanking for the Smn job just for the arcanist class ^_^
I only have one concern right now.
Make arc/other new classes unlocked rather then.. lodida walking around, but weathered item, TADA! UNLOCKED!...There will already be a massive flooding of the new classes running all over, I don't want it to be everyone and there pet monkeys cousin thrice removed's pet dog to be leveling it. ;x
But, at least I have time to tailor up a sexy librarian outfit!
Looks like the old artwork they used for Scholar to me.
Be Interesting to have a book liek scholar. We will see.
which brings up another fear i have. yes i know wait for it to come out. but if carby is like what you said only there to help out the real tank, unless carby does good damage, your giving up space for another tank really. Unless they intend Arcanist to pretty much solo to 50. A space that could be for a bard that can make everyone stronger or a dd or blm that can kill faster. Now somewhere said that arcanist itself will be a debuffer? if thats true im fine with that only IF se rework the enfeeble to make them noticable. not a 15 second paralyze that you wont even notice an effect like the drgs paralyze, or giving up the ability to dd to do a stun like Blm. And beside the fights dont last long enough for the debuffs to be even worth it.
Arcanist is a class not a job
Summoner is the job
They never said it was an advanced class there will be no advanced classes the jobs are the "advanced" areas of the game
why unlock something that isn't "advanced" and will be brought out with the relaunch of the remade game
You've never played WoW or Lineage II, have you? >.>
I think what they'll do is have tank carby be more a means for the Arcanist/SMN to solo quest while the caster version of carby would be for groups.
Comparatively, Warlocks in WoW have the Voidwalker which has low damage but generates aggro (not as much as a real tank), but would switch to the succubus (melee pet with crowd control abilities) or imp (ranged caster) when in groups. I'm getting the vibe that SMN and Arcanist will be going in that direction, which is not a bad thing at all. Outside of super easy content that was outleveled, Voidwalkers couldn't hold a candle to a real tank, so I think your fears are unfounded.
how would that be taking up space? they're not a direct party member. it's an indirect npc. If they go about it the same way they did in 11 with any pet classes you could have a full party and still summon said wyvern or pet or summons and not take up party space.
I'm saying so that people that just join, they don't jump into ARN/the other new jobs as they first join. This has more reason then just "Oh I don't want to see 50000298476 of one job!" - yes I don't want that, but another reason is so people who have been playing it can A) Unlock it(And therefor be able to tell people how to as they get X level to unlock it) and B) Level the job some to be able to help guide people threw it.
I personally don't see an issue in having it be like unlocked, even if its just a simple quest, that does require you to be level 20 or something to do. I mean, it doesn't make sense. "Equip book. YOU NOW KNOW HOW TO SUMMON CARBUNCLE. CONGRATULATIONS". Magic and sort at least sort of made sense. Summoning a lesser primal doesn't. I'd LOVE to see them add a level 1 necklace named "Carbuncle ruby necklace" that you need to go SB or something simple.
What i mean is the actually job arcanist Carby will be their main point of damage being a pet job. And some one said that arcanist itself will be a debuffing job. So back to carby will he hit hard or faster? Cause right now Debuffs are useless, trash mobs dont live long enough to see the effect, boss Dlvl bull crap makes them next to immune to debuffs, and even if the debuff lands you wont see the effect. If carby cant keep up with other DDs, not be monstrously more powerful, maybe more power than a monk but hits slower, but faster than a drg but not as powerful. Would that suffice? Cause why pick Arcanist over a blm or the other DD, Debuff which dont do much?
I doubt carby will be arcanist only pet. There is cait sith, and I saw Typhoon and Fenrir in the concept art. summoner will most likely have more abilities for them to utilize
so basically you're saying that because there were people who didn't like the game and didn't play it when it first came out and jumped onto the bandwagon (which is what Yoshida is wanting) after it's relaunched to be forced to "unlock" a class that isn't an advanced class that was no mention of it being an advanced class. And the reason why you need it to unlock the job summoner. Or even punish us because we've played the game since launch and complained about wanting a pet class or a new mage class since it's out of balance to begin with. All because carby may or may not be the first thing you get when you equip a book? I can see them waiting for a certain level then giving your carby like the do with cure on con but to force you to unlock it no it's never going to happen. they haven't done that for any of the classes they've done that for jobs.
also not all the new players and such are automatically going to jump in and play arcanist. They still have the 7 original classes to level as well it's all personal preference really. I myself haven't gotten all my dow completely leveled. I don't have pug and glad and mrd lvled to 50 myself. So there won't be a gagillion people playing as arcanist.
arcanist isn't the job though smn is and they will be debuffing yes debuffs will help in primal and boss battles more than you think and carby if there's a hound of mobs that are summoned like say example in the plumes with garuda you can sic carby on one of them to help get rid of them *shrugs*
