They have an aversion to using anything ranged in general, the "poster boy" is consistently a melee, WAR for ARR, DRG for HW, SAM for StB, DRK for ShB, PLD for EW, VPR for DT, which is a goddamn shame, RDM is so much cooler than SAM...

Which in that case I would say is kind of understandable, since melees are easier to create engaging combat scenes for the trailers, having them in close combat doing all the flashy moves, whereas ranged jobs would ideally be further away from the opponent in a 1v1 scenario wider than a ultra-wide can handle.
The Shadowbringers trailer was almost ranged combat already. The WoL was being pushed back constantly with melee combat happening in passing. The final scene with DRK wasn't even melee and could have been done with spells. Besides, it's not like a ranged character couldn't be put in a melee situation. Phys ranged AoE are shorter ranged than their other actions and their animations look more like a short range desperation attacks than precision ranged strikes. They also have role actions that might be used in proximity and BRD has repelling shot. RDM obviously has a blade. BLM, SMN, PCT all have shields of some kind, mobility tools for dashing around foes, or summons that can engage in close combat. It shouldn't be difficult to build a trailer around a ranged job.
I actually think of that more as an ARC than BRD because he's missing his harp and the trademark flamboyant clothing of a typical BRD. But that's just me nitpicking.
I suspect that more down to earth, the explanation being probably because they already had the high definition movie version of BRD, much like they had DRG, WAR, SAM, MNK already in store from the previous cinematic trailers. Ain't a coincidence that they chose those specific jobs, added to the fact that it consolidated what the player had already seen the WoL as before and leaning a lot more into that all those jobs are now useless vs the Light, leading to the DRK reveal. Two birds one stone.
I have fun just swapping around which healer I feel like playing. Most runs in normal require healing, since most people are casual and don't know everything by heart and make a lot of mistakes.
Queue into content and hope you get sprouts and first timers (blind)
The last time I was doing savage content, I was doing close to 90% dps. This was not by choice but due to the lack of needing my heals. When a job does 90% dps, you’re essentially a dps. I wasted lilies so I could use the blood lily on the 2 min meta.
Sorry if I sound a bit jaded, when I stated healing on launch, I really was a healer, now I’m green dps… and I hate it!
Recently I saw a video of a team who was intentionally taking damage to increase LB generation in M6S to speed clear the fight. Apparently the closer to death you get the more LB generation you get when the healer restores your health: Less than 10% health is the goal. I knew we could gain extra LB generation when damage occurred, but I didn't realize how big an LB gauge jump you could get if you are able to get your health bar to less than 10% and a healer direct heals you. Got to wondering if this would be appreciated by experienced healers in normal content roulettes if a player intentionally stood in some mechanics. Recently I have been testing where I could get hit in The Underkeep by the last boss to get LB1 just before my final burst and the boss' death. As a MNK with ilvl 760 gear and food buff up I could get hit by the double beams (where the two beams overlap from the purple orbs being hit by those moving things) and I would almost be dead: I died once when I forgot my food buff had dropped. Anyways I didn't get enough time to ask the healers what they thought about what I was doing. I just typed "LB generation 8)" after they probably watched me stand in harm's way and had a heart attack. What would healers think about players intentionally getting hit to boost LBs? Would this add an extra spice to the boring monotony? Would intentionally getting hit be considered griefing? Thoughts? Healers you could also try to figure out places where you can let players' health drop to below 10%: I assume some DOTs would be perfect for this and you could risk giving those DPS a heart attack. 8)
10% Health LB Generation? 8)
That's an interesting idea, my take though is "do so at your own risk", sure I'll do what I can but if the heals don't land in time I take no responsibility.
It's nothing those days, it used to be abused back in Stormblood and with SCH especially where people would take lethal damage for the game, but wouldn't die due to shields pushing them just above death. You could for example generate 3+ LBs in the gate boss of O8S by doing this repeatedly.
They nerfed it heavily after, but it's still a thing I think to reward people trying to go for such strats.
I absolutely agree that healers have received a lot more healing spells but they are focused on high mobility, instant cast replacements for our existing kits. This is because they are wanting to make raids faster and more exciting. Standing around and casting is the opposite of their goals so I expect to see more and more instant heals.
My apologies on my lack of clarity in my previous comments.
