Petition to fix Miqo'te Face 2 Eyebrows

Just wanted to add my support for you all - we're feeling very similar in the Thancred's face thread and wish there were a way we could have more transparency and a better means of communication with the developers.

I hope that the eyebrow issue gets fixed and that you get the characters you remember back <3

Thank you so much! I've supported your thread as well. Just very frustrating to have all feedback and bug reports ignored for months.

There is 1 reason I don't like Miqo'te nor will I ever play until it is fixed:
The eyebrows. All of them.
1. They all look angry
2. they all look pencil sharp or drunken drawn (while thin/normal size appearing, they are sharp drawn/paperthin in other ways or too bushy and retangle)
3. It makes all miqo'te look the same because it doesn't matter what eyebrow option you take, you are always angry

But this is the thing I am truly hoping they can make optional or "correction" or add additional of the same but different in distance:

I would love to have "kind friendly soft brow" even though I do not have a reference, basically at least one eyebrow option that looks "normal/daily"
what makes miqo'te look angry isn't necessarily the shape. As I am writing it, it is all coming back to me. So let me do my best to explain:

The reason lalafell can get away better with less good brows is because there is options in eyebrow with pretty decent distance between the eyes and the eyebrow
Whereas miqo'te eyebrows - while there cold be options to maintain this certain look for miqo'te, I think this problem would be entirely fixed if they lifted the eyebrows
Because of this, it always seems 'angry'. I hope there is a way Miqo'te an get brow lift!!! And some even a bit higher. I like to have my characters with higher eyebrows.
Unfortunately in this case Midlander men have also the issue. While it looks really handsome, I like to also have an option of eyebrow where they are not so close to the eyelids.

(Apologies for the terrible sketch drawing, I had also no pencil to erase mistakes but this is not meant to replicate an exact miqo'te eye or eyebrows, the idea is to explain brow lift makes 'younger/fresher' less 'angry' and 'tense' look
it is also why a lot miqo'te looks the similar in "expression" even if everyone picks random face options, their expression is the same. An eyebrow can really make a difference.
I like miqo'te to look more innocent and less feisty but I do not know if this forum post would agree with my sentiment, but having additional options would avoid conflict of those who like it the way it is...^^;

The issue with these specifically (face 2) is that they messed up the polygons on the end. So instead of going back down and rounding out they go up like Spock from Star Trek. This also breaks multiple cutscenes into looking absolutely ridiculous if your cat ever looks angry. You can see it here clearly (screenshot from today):

I literally made a forum account just to show support to this thread & Thancred's face thread. I had better eyebrows in real life when I first started doing them at 13. I thought this would get fixed with the new patch, but it didn't. Again.

Please fix the eyebrows. I thought I finally found my race with Miqo'te. My real-life husband and I met and fell for each other in Final Fantasy XIV, while my character was a Miqo'te. He's moving across an entire continent for me, and I would do the same if needed. The sentimentality I have for this game and character race is now immeasurable due to this. One of the reasons we're not married in-game yet is because I don't want to take wedding screenshots with these brows - they'll probably end up in frames in our living room! I do *want* to stay Miqo'te and have our characters marry, with them being the same as when we met. I'm conflicted because I love my character, but I hate the way her face looks permanently angry now, or like a child drew the brows on with a marker. This is not what I was going for - it's like it's her but not really her anymore, and it's all due to these eyebrows. Words simply cannot express my frustration.

Please, I am resorting to begging, fix our eyebrows.

I've seen how long it takes to fix, it takes under 1 minute to fix this issue if you are even remotely competent (you would be if it was your job), or 5 minutes if you aren't.

How can it still not be fixed?
They didn't even fix the stalker issues, and this is still not fixed nearly a year later?

My friend is still unsubbed because of this...

Inability to adress this issue made me switch. Won't ever be the same again until they fix the bugs they ignore.

Sorry to hear, but I also don't blame you. :( These eyebrows are a bad look for us, and the devs. The sooner they fix this and other unfixed bugs, the better.

I've temporarily capitulated back to Roe specifically because of the eyebrows, but it doesn't feel quite right anymore and I'd very much still like my Miqo'te fixed T.T

I had submitted another bug report, this time through the official website, specifying the mapping error that squished the eyebrows thin.

Of course it'd be preferable to have them fully adjusted to match the angle and slight curve of the pre-Dawntrail brows too, and I'm not sure if there's any difference in efficiency of where the bug reports get sent through, but I'll pull all the stops until we see some results.

I've also just started to periodically submit bug reports every now and then, emphasizing how much it ruins my enjoyment. At this point i'd literally pay just to get the old model back.

Eyebrows still unfixed, still looks like a mean joke in any cutscene.

Still having to use the bushy brow option to make a softer face on my miqo face 2. And only brows 2 work somewhat without the bushy brows covering them. And what is up with them being so short??? Please fix the eyebrows to something more normal.

Yeah would be really grand if Square would fix the bug and get decent eyebrows back!

New update, but same messed up eyebrows.

So much for Yoshida saying they wanted to make sure the older looks were preserved. I feel like they tried the first months (and fucked our eyebrows in the process), and have dropped the matter altogether since.

Still not fixed as of the most recent maintenance and patch.

None of these are a new or even related issue. So no. Plus i want less gear to hide ears and tail, not more.


Anyways, it's now day 433 since we are being ignored by staff about an actual bug that has been reported since the beginning of the Dawntrail benchmark.

Remember what we once had! And what we could have again, if they fixed the thin eyebrow bug and tweaked the shape to be more like it used to be!
How our brows originally had an actual, carefully made shape. An outer corner that was tapered and softer than the more full inner corner! How emotes gave unique expressions with emotions that weren't just "angry >:|" on the eyebrows!

[Eyebrow type 4]

Resting face. Brow 4 was angled higher than Brow 2, but it wasn't angry! It had a curve, and an impish and playful look to it.

Two angles of a scowl, a temporary expression where the eyebrows are supposed to be angrier. Even then, some parts of the brow still had a soft, downward curve. It looked natural, nowhere near as overexaggerated or scary as they do now!

Never forget how well done these eyebrows originally were! If they could do it once, they can do it again!

I honestly cannot fathom how this just will not be adressed at all anymore. Sure, it's a fraction of the player base playing that race with that face and gender, i get that. But not even being acknowledge anymore is just not fair.

Played that character with that face for almost 10 years, and now i'm just being told by people who don't care that it looks the same or better. No the heck it doesn't. Don't tell me my character of 10 years improved when she's actually just gone. Don't tell me spock-eyebrows in cutscenes where she's angry are normal.

The people who don't care, wouldn't care one way or another. The people who don't notice a difference... probably never played a character with this face before 7.0.

There's no reasonable person who can say this looks "better" than before. Change is one thing but it should never be a whole downgrade from the way it used to look. It's inexcusable.

They still got some things wrong, like how they're still too short, not curved enough, and don't fade enough into a tapered outer tip. But it's at least a little closer to the original shape and color than what we have currently, and not crushed thin at the inner corner.

I'd prefer it over what we have in the main game now, but would most prefer a shape closer to what we had originally.

Wow, even the mobile version is closer to what it should be.

That says something. I would not have nearly as many problems with it if it was like that. Hell, i'll accept my character looking like PS3 era if it means having her friendly face back.

The shape and the emotion it conveys are totally off in the Dawntrail one, yeah. :(

If anyone has ingame screenshots of this face with eyebrows 1, 3, or 5, I'd love to see how those looked before too.

Would it work to put in a bug report that the in-game eyebrows don't look like the benchmark? (Benchmark still looks fine for me, even tho I have supposedly the latest one.) And yes, this is what desperation looks like.

The current eyebrows are the same as the Dawntrail 1.1 benchmark, but they weren't bugged in the 1.0 benchmark. I tried sending a more recent report just about that error through the official website's bug reporter, but there's no way to track it to see if it's accepted or not.

If it isn't fixed by 7.3 I plan to make another report here in the forums. If that gets moved to "Working as Intended" again then we may have to push through with more serious complaints of errors not getting properly looked at, and unanimous community petitions not being listened to.

At this point I'd be down to crowdsource someone (preferably you, Tahli) going to FanFest or something and directly raising the issue to the panel of speakers, hell, Yoshi P himself.

I'm bouncing between races essentially having an identity crisis, not actually playing FF14 as much at all + I've played her a less than a lot of you guys. I can only imagine how much worse it is for other people.

Hubby even mentioned us getting married in-game again and I haven't figured out what I'm doing if this... doesn't get fixed. In general with FF14, not just about the in-game marriage. This and poor Thancred's face feels like more of a betrayal than anything else done in any other game I've played for some reason. Might seem petty to a lot of others, but I can't really get over it.

Bump with a story:
My husband is experimenting with fanta'ing female characters since low-level glamours tend to look better on females (purely his personal opinion and based on the gear he has, no offence intended).

He's been listening to me complain, he's seen the difference, but it just didn't hit quite as much until he had to make a character.

OMG YESYESYES T_T since the first benchmark I was so devastated what they did to them and with the updated benchmark they even erased a bit more so from nice looking eyebrows to ust sharp angry lines... I am still so frustrated about this (also some other parts they just changed for example eyes 6 had a little uplift in the outer corner - giving more of an cat-eye look and they changed that.. also flattened and widened the lips.. and the clan marks on the forehead used to be more pale than the ones on the cheek.. now they're almost bolder) but the eyebrows are my biggest issue ever since the first benchmark..

It's just something I won't ever understand .. how some eyebrows or even facial features got nearly untouched to DT and yet for Miqo Face 2 they actively (!) changed the eyebrows twice... Like..c'mon then why not adding more eyebrow types and leaving fine working eyebrows as they were.. for real

I agree, there are definitely other changes they made to the face that I also don't like including the eyes and mouth. But what they did to the eyebrows is just the most egregious, worst-looking change they made to this face. Inexcusable to keep it in this state!

Desperately hoping that we see changes we've been asking for in a few days, and I can finally post a positive update.
