I just wish it wasn't a lottery
I just wish it wasn't a lottery
having to wait 9 days to lose is so much more fun, I love lottery too ! Not only do you wait for 5 days for people to bid on the same house as you (and see the numbers go past the hundred for mediums and larges) but once you know you've lost, you also need to wait 4 more days for people to claim their houses, and also the icing on the cake, you have to go to the plot and watch the new owner decorate as you do the walk of shame to claim your gil ! And you get to do it all over again every 9 days !
Wow ! So much fun ! I love lottery !
Didn't say it was fun mate, in fact I said it was painful. Placards is just worse. They both suck and I wish we didn't need either because we didn't have limited resources.
Funnily I have the sense that the people that hate this the most are the ones multi-FCing for the millions of gil, annoyed that they have to compete rather than bot spam the placard. Only since I've seen a few of the older placards that were spammed appeared to be shell FCs. The same who have the most to gain by keeping them a limited resource.
This isn't a long-term solution.

I think you're the one living in smokey town, both of them have an element that multi can use but only one of them requires someone to go full crazy and spam a board for hours on end. You're logically more likely to get normal people to engage if they don't have to set up a cardboard tent in front of the placard, therefore the multi owner has more to compete against. Multi owner can bring multiple to any placard or lottery, so that's not really relevant, only lottery invites regulars.
Or in other words placard invites botters.
Lottery invites everyone.
Both take the exceptionally lucky, if that was an argument. You could be lucky and stumble upon a open lot. Can win the lottery too.
Oh and both suck, just one sucks less. We need better systems.
I'll be the devil's advocate and say that housing is more or less fine the way it is.
There should be finite houses. I know I'm speaking for the minority, but I actually interact with my neighbors (or at least did until the majority of their FC vanished while waiting for the new expansion). Having instanced housing would utterly destroy that sense of community.
Honestly fine with the amount, too. Except maybe the split should be a bit more in favor of Free Company housing and less personal housing. Really I was always fine with the idea of housing being exclusive to FCs and increase the number of apartments for wards and leave those for individuals. I know a lot of people love their personal houses, but aside from access to a garden there isn't the same level of tangible benefit in owning a plot of land compared to an FC.
Or considering the amount of FCs who refuse to buy a small plot of land (which is a whole other can of worms related to FCs who think they are too good for a small plot) leave small plots to personal owners and making medium and large plots exclusive to FCs.
All that said, SE does need to be stricter with demolition. 45 days is far too long, especially when all the owner (or FC member depending on the case) has to do is enter once every 45 days. The auto-demolition needs to be much stricter. Like maybe 14-21 days - it needs to be less than a months time. I also really wish they had some other method for determining activity besides entering the estate. I don't really have any suggestions for what they could do, but allowing people to get away with leaving a desolate, unused house aside from proverbially sticking their head in once in a month and a half is no solution to those wishing for a plot of land.
