I'm with you. The dream...

Most of the 1.0 code is gone at this point by their own admission.
The problems they have now were a result of poor planning in 2.0 and beyond. That's really just the nature of big projects, but SE seems to do everything in their power to avoid actually going back and resolving technical debt. It probably doesn't help a significant portion of the player base doesn't really hold them accountable.
The 1.0 "code" was abandoned before 2.0 became reality. The underlying game engine, battle mechanics and crafting mechanics were all changed. I am unsure how people still believe that there is any code from the 1.0 version of the game in 2.0 ...
Artwork, some geographical features, and gear design ... those were retained.
The current limitations in code are most likely due to the requirements that the game run on a PS3 at launch.
It's incredible now that it's basically 5 months because of "holidays", "emergencies", "time to polish".
Certain people always say "it's just an extra 2 weeks, why are you upset", and then shortly after when it's ANOTHER 2 weeks on top of that, they repeat the same line, ignoring that it's actually been a 4 week increase. The goalposts truly have been shifted and are continuing to shift. Can't wait for 2 years from now when it's 8 months between patches but it's still only "2 more weeks".
You will say same thing when goes to 6 months every patch. You will say what's 2 months more.
well it's understandable that some people keep bringing up 1.0 code stuff.
remember at the launch of Endwalker people had problem logging in because they were thrown out the queue and it was because of a 1.0 code. But ofc that was a server code and not Engine Code. But because it was a 1.0 code it keeps coming up
You don't even know how much 1.0 code is in current game. Logging servers were affected. But the point isn't only that they copy pasted whole lines of code (not all were bad mind you), but mainly the time restriction to make 2.0 meant that they needed to make many decisions, that in the end made the current code unoptimized and not truly future proof and we all can feel it.
Its still a big thing with Japan and covid well Asian countries in general are having much bigger spikes, probably due to higher population density too. In regards to the 4 and 4.5 months...I think it was made very clear that it would be 4 months. The extra weeks making it closer to 4.5 months would be whenever it landed on a public holiday etc which they stated would be for staff holidays etc.
Wait a minute, they took longer for these post EW patches? Lol, that's kind of pathetic for the content we got....
Honestly?... I wanna see if they stick to 4.5 once XVI is released, and if they do, if maybe we start getting more content per patch. I guess we'll see.
Give it at least half a year after XVI is released. I'm sure there'll be some manner of big bug that needs fixing that they'll have to work on at launch. It's pretty much the state of the industry these days.
You guys really forget that large portion of their time right now is spent on adding Duty Support to pre ShB expansions. And that limits everything else that can be delivered.
So in a MMO (and a monthly sub one at that) we gotta wait longer for content because of the progressive single player-ification of the game? The same game that got record sales going into this expansion to the point of being """sold out""" and should be swimming in resources? And why I as a veteran player should be served less content than I was receiving before for the "benefit" of players who'll get carried to current content by bots, without knowing how to play the game and be a burden to everybody else THAT LATE into the game?
But once again I get your frustration...however from a business viewpoint...do they please their current base without changing the foundation or anything early game and keep going further and further ahead making it a gigantic wall for new players. You say single player but I don't quite view it that way...the more expansions we have the less likely players will be in the early game. Allowing players to do dungeons with AI is a great way at allowing them to progress down the core content unlocking path (Which is the main story) This doesn't include trials yet and I wonder how much work it would be to redesign them but them giving new players options to advance without feeling like they have to wait 30 minutes to dps queue a dungeon no one wants to run is a good thing.
If they aren't planning to have 7.0 as a new start point for players then they need to tidy up everything before to allow it to better flow when people get further and further away from ARR/HW stuff. Resources are finite and I am happy to take a hit and play other games etc if it means more people will play the game in the long term. The game is 10 years old....if it were 2-3 then I would be completely with you and your complaint (New world is literally reworking story zones now and its 2 years old) but there's a lot of story...there's a lot of game...its a mountain to climb.
But aren't roulettes supposed to help with that? Or free companies? With people willing to help new players? And we're talking like 5-6 dungeon runs across the entirety of a vanilla expansion MSQ (not counting patches because it varies). I'll grant that it's not an ideal situation, but it's not as bad as to warrant delaying content patches with raids and whatnot for it either.
Gaining new players isn't everything, retention is also important (especially for a subscription game) and they seem to have trouble with that, judging from a job posting some time ago.
Source for that? How can you know the amount of the resources that is devoted to Duty support? besides, isn't it just an upgrade to squadrons, which were already upgraded in ShB when they added duty support originally? I know it's still work that has to be done, but put most of their effort into it... I don't know, Rick...
Revamping old content to be more accessible (and arguably more engaging, looking at you Castrum and Prae) is a good and in my opinion necessary move on their part. It's a great way to future proof some things. I'm hoping that they've got plans for a CT revamp as well. Unfortunately, no one can say for sure whether this is taking vital time and resources away from other things, but it wouldn't surprise me if this was the case.
Yeah this is a terrible take on that poster's end honestly. You cant just focus on the veteran players all the time otherwise you'd lose traction for newcomers to enjoy the game if they're forced to deal with archaic game design and systems. What worked for us back then doesnt necessarily work for us now. Especially when we know better.
A.) If you don't make the game more accessible to new players, and all you have are people gradually filtering out, then the game ends for all of us (you included) sooner rather than later. Investing in ways to attract and retain new players is essential to the long-term lifeblood and enjoyment of an MMO.
B.) I subscribe to a few different monthly streaming services. I don't expect each one to release exactly the type of new show or movie I personally like to watch every month. I still say subbed because there's already plenty of things in my queue I'm looking forward to watching, and - quite frankly - as someone with a full-time career, the cost is negligible.
A) It's a bit of a contradiction when they still have to clear the whole MSQ to be able to play current content with their friends, which is a common complaint. That is unless they want to pay a few delicious euros to skip it and level up. Now, that's accessible. Or when they refuse to translate the game to different langages. That is real accessibility. Maybe in the future with a Mogstation update.
B)You kind of had a point until you went full Lolorito. Your economical situation doesn't reflect that of everyone's. The fact that you don't care about your money, doesn't mean no one else does. Them, halting the auto-demolishing process during delicate situations so people don't have to subscribe, means they are aware of this.
I'm not saying that they shouldn't tinker with the old content to make it more accessible. What I'm saying is the cost of doing that shouldn't be delaying the patch cycles. Especially not when they've had more resources than ever before.
Do you guys remember Heavensward? As much praise as it tends to get I can tell you it was one of the most... what to call it... "gruesome"? "unfriendly"? periods of the game, where they went overboard with many things. The expansion that nearly killed the raiding community. Say what you will of Eureka but it had nothing on Umbrite farming and ARF spam. Remember weekly capped crafter / gatherer scrips and favors? Did you know that your final class quest in HW required you to craft an item from a mastercraft book and required aethersand? That's right, you already had to participate in the crafter endgame to do the last *class quest*. And so many other details I can't remember at the top of my head but the point is, at that time they had no qualms with just making things difficult, they probably thought that would be engaging and keep players busy. It did, but it also made a lot of people frustrated and stop bothering.
Then Stormblood came out and they did a lot of things to make the game more accessible. It was a much needed breath of fresh air and I'd say it had a very good balance of easing things out without making the game mind-numbingly easy. And guess what? None of it came at the cost of content. Then they continued in Shadowbringers, even going overboard reworking things I don't think anyone asked them to rework, like gatherer collectibles. Still they did, and again, at no cost for the content. So sorry but no, I won't take the bot-ization of the game as an excuse for delaying everything else.
exactly. also, veterans who actively play can mentor their sprout friends which tends to increase retention. When I had my friends from ESO and GW2 move over to FF14, I helped them throughout ARR and got them to HW. this kept them interested and engaged in the game because many of them struggled with ARR pacing. having active veterans does help new players get eased into the game ^^
Oh look an actual slippery slope
