Disappointed.
Huh? You think they knew for a long time 2.0 wont be at e3?
Interviews were booked for a long time, people planned flights/hotels/bought e3 tickets to be able to get this interview, he cant just tell them "sorry interviews cancelled" a week before e3...
SE are already flying over for their other games, an extra seat is not going to be a massive hit in their budget..
Yes.. everyone will see it, just not those who are too focused on GW2 and WoW which will be there lol. Lets throw a game that has a notorious reputation for being a big huge fail against one of the biggest mmos and one of the most hyped mmos and see how it goes =D awesome PR Strategy!
The choice with the highest percent on poll question number 5 is people looking forward to 2.0, well then better not tell them about it.
Not having a big showing for E3 is a horrible move for SE at least in the West. There is no other event that will get the publicity of E3 over here. The overwhelming majority of NA mmo players consider FFXIV the worst mmo game ever made, and they have no plans on following it... they need to be forced to look at it again. I would say most do not even know of any of the changes that took place, past the first version update.
All I have to say is if SE better have something impressive at E3 or they better shell out millions plastering FFXIV 2.0 on all the TV channels like Blizzard does their stuff or there is little chance of recovery of this game even if they do really fix it. Word of mouth is the best advertising, but atm it is all negative.
Soo.....what's SE going to show this year then? Tomb Raider only?
E3 is going to suck hard.
Thats true, humans are very dumb.
I still think its a bad decision and a really big mistake not to show the trailer.
Basicaly it comes down to this, there is excitement within the FFXIV community about 2.0, we cant wait for it!! We know its coming!! We care!
E3 is SE's chance to generate excitement and buzz for 2.0 OUTSIDE our community and to mmorpg gamers around the world. Thats what E3 is about, it gives games developers a chance to show off their games and generate massive hype on the internet about them.
E3 is when the world will be watching. Bad decision.
Personaly I dont really give a fuck how many new players get interested in playing the game after being hyped up at E3 or how much money SE will lose from potential subs. I cared about the 2.0 trailer being shown from a purely selfish perspective.
I just wanted to see it :)
That was simply a situation of circumstance, the game was ready to be shown in a very pre alpha style way Gamescon is less professional in that the content you show can be a little rough round the edges.
Anything on the show floor at E3 has to look finished and polished otherwise you will get negative feedback, that being said SE have known for a very long time that E3 would be in June they should have had something to show, the fact they have retracted from E3 suggests to me they could be behind schedule or don't feel confident enough in what they have to show the public. (neither of which bodes well)
This still doesn't excuse the fact that SE have their own Conference and could have shown the trailer or in game footage there, they have also had Q&A sessions before at E3, which I'm sure will happen this year also, of course we will get as much info out of that as we usual do though which is next to nothing. "wait a little longer etc"
This whole things stinks of bad publicity and a failure to anticipate the public's perception of the game.
All I can say is this website better be awesome as hell, even then how will they get people who don't care or know about FFXIV to visit the site ?
Indeed.
I'm not trying to sit here and white knight for SE cause i question their motives also but, on the other hand does anyone that posted responses to this know anything about business or marketing. I mean just because we don't understand doesn't mean that their is not a logical idea at state. I mean in all no matter what wither SE is thinking logically or not they are doing what they think is appropriate because no matter what they don't want the game to fail because they will lose even more money then before. All i am saying is either put some logical reason why this could be the reason they chose this or maybe an explanation from someone that has business or marketing degree to kind of explain the reasoning behind this. Yoshi-P may be the man behind FFXIV but, he does have a boss so this hard to go through some chain of bosses before coming to this decision. SE has been around for a while so forgive me if i seem like i am white knight but, SE didn't become a successful business from failing constantly. So i going to give SE the reasonable doubt until it certain what the outcome will be.
actually in a marketing move, that is honestly a smart idea to wait and flood, BUT they need to stop the hype train of Guild Wars 2 so maybe a sneak peek wouldn't be too bad. Honestly I am disappointed because I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOO hyped for this years E3 it just made me cry inside.
How can you forget the awesomeness that was Mr. Tak Fuji.
ONE MIRION TROOPS. WOW.
Also, they treating this like a new game, not an expansion.
I just don't care either way anymore. I feel Yoshi P has fulfilled his promises so far and I think he will continue to do so. However, Square Enix's record since about 2006 has been less than stellar. I will not allow this news to ruin my E3, too many other goodies to look forward to.
No matter how you look at it, the ONLY thing that was stated in that letter was that Trailer Won't be at E3 Period. Yoshi-P is still going to E3 ( yes for interviews we all know that one), but something tells me there's more than what meets the eye.
People have this strange mentality when Someone says something is not going to be there, Nothing of that game will be their at all. I don't know whats going to be at E3, and neither do all of you that claim nothing is going to be their, even you Delsus and even myself that think that there's going to be more to show at E3.
We all no next to nothing.. all we know is there's no E3 trailer.. Trying to pull out theories of reason of it being there or not is just stupid imo.
A trailer will NOT hype the game, everyone will see it as that failure again, Gameplay will hype the game as in "omg that looks awesome" very few trailers have gameplay in them, I am 99% certain this will be the fact with FFXIV 2.0 trailer, but if they show gameplay that is live on thier test server it will be good for the game.
I just love how many people here suddenly became marketing experts over night.
Seriously, if you want to whine because of your entitlement issues - fine. Actually, not fine at all, but never mind that now. An estimated 99.997% of you have not the slightest clue about what's best for the success of the game, so please refrain from using that as a pretext to whine about not getting your precious trailer.
If they play their best cards now at E3, they have to compete against tons of other games that are much more anticipated than a re-release of a generally shunned MMO, and as a result they would probably only get minor coverage by the media. They could also cause confusion about the difference between the current version and 2.0 if they don't build up slowly. They could be better off using the word-of-mouth advertisement that's currently taking place due to the "Welcome Back" and "Legacy" campaigns for a while longer. They could lack enough material to keep up the excitement between now and the launch of 2.0.
There's no shortage of reasons why it could be best for them to wait. I have no idea if it really is best. But unless you're some kind of industry marketing expert and have insight into all their numbers, neither do you.
Mmm... biggest chance... I don't think so.
E3 news coverage is like a child with ADHD: It's all over the place.
SE could have pulled back the curtain on V2.0 then be eclipsed a few minutes later by "THE NEXT BIG THING"
SE will be focusing on their "mainstream" efforts with games like Tomb Raider and Hitman.
Plus Press will be all over Nintendo Wii U.
E3 is mostly about mainstream console gaming. MMOs although popular aren't mainstream, not to mention MMO gamers are for the most part solely PC gamers.
With SE holding off on v2.0 public reveal after the dust has settled at E3, it sets them up to have the attention of multi gaming news outlets focused at the same time. Not split, forgotten or not reported while the rush of E3 news comes rushing in.
I'm bummed we aren't getting the promised trailer. But I would rather have a ton of info up front and attention focused on what I want to know. Not some reporter with a quick 10 minute interview who may or may not be truly interested in this game just doing his job to get to the next interview. Thats what E3 is.
When FFXIV v2.0 curtain drops I want to be showered in info, in screens, in lore, in video. I want to have the opportunity to ask my questions, I want to see lengthy interviews with the devs. This isn't achieved at E3, it has to be done where there aren't other distractions.
No FF XIV just FF XIII-3 because we all want that.
They are not Behind, They are just holding that wild Card till Gamescom, which is a good move imo.. @ E3 no one really looks at online games much, its more for Console games than anything. Gamescom, is where they can get the most publicity in a positive way.. if they did it at E3.. They will be mixed feelings about it, and could just be disaster waiting to happen.Quote:
The devs, Visual Works, Sound, PR—everyone did their part and the trailer itself was completed and ready for release at E3.
What else is there to do but breathe yet another sigh of disappointment for this game.
and add to this they will still be at e3, and 2.0 will still be there, it will be announced, and a few things will be up(such as the website and such for it) to get awareness out, but yeah, they are waiting for the big info til its ALL ready, not just tiny bits here and there
So much for a successful FFXIV.
Since we learned about their plan to re-release the game, we've had one screenshot - ONE. Other games have developer's diaries, not to mention video footage of areas and game/battle mechanics a long time before the game's release. This trailer was supposed to be a carrot, not only to get new players interested in the game, but also as a gesture to old players. And then they tell us, a week before E3 that it's not happening afterall.
They really need to use every oppurtunity they have to hype this game. E3 is one of them. We've lived on the promise of a great game for a while now. It would be very nice to see if the waiting is justified.
Hate to break it to you, but most of the world and players don't feel anything or care about FFXIV right now. It hasn't been a "wait and see" moment as much as it's entirely off the radar, which is as much a good thing as it is a bad thing. SE needs to capitalize on the biggest opportunity they can seize to MAKE people care, not cater to a bunch of whiny man-children who(fortunately) don't represent even this game's population, much less the gaming population as whole.
they know what is best for their game, not us.
trailer will come, looking forward to it.
keep it up se, you deserve it, this game is HQ+3.
