By this logic the "British Broadcasting Channel" would need to change their acronym because it COULD be misinterpreted with a different acronym meaning. That is a poor argument from someone grasping at straws.

There's a certain amount of "You knew this was toeing the line here" in this situation.

That said, it seems to me that there should have been a step where you should be told to change the name and given that opportunity because that seems it would fix the entire issue. If that didn't happen, then that is something where there should probably be some investigation into processes.
