I want lots of gardening patches!
I want lots of gardening patches!
Actually, the more I think about this. I want to ask why they are wasting resources on instance gardening and pet zones when that could have been additional housing wards.
Either way, I shouldn't get irritated before any announcement anyway as who T F knows what's gonna happen with all this speculation.
Because apparently right now its way too difficult to just add "more" housing, although I should note Ishgard housing is also coming in 6.1 supposedly, so there will be an increase with that at least. Still just applying bandages to a bleeding wound, though, so maybe they're just hard at working trying to get a permanent solution but are offering these things to sort of placate the playerbase.
I really wonder what's wrong with FFXIV's backend that they cannot do instanced housing. Even New World pulled it off for crying out loud.
I just hope that Island Sanctuary somehow allows us to farm leathers and other enemy-drops. I have *0* hopes that this is some kind of alternative to housing and I have severe doubts as to the customization we'll even have for preset buildings.
I hope this is a pet sanctuary. I hope this entails retooling mounts and minions to be usable as companions in battle. I hope companions get rebalanced to work in casual duties like dungeons and normal raids/trials. I hope this means the death of all BST speculation because having an entire FARM of animals I can use is way better than limiting myself to a BST job.
If there's gardening too, that's fine too I guess. Fleurs.
The New World point wasn't the strongest, but it's not like decent housing is a brand new feature to MMOs. There are other games, created around the time of XIV, that have far better housing systems in place. XIV is just continually slapping Band-aids on their housing, and it kinda sucks.
Oh I agree with you. The fact that the FFXIV Dev Team has managed to make such a fantastic game on the rotten bones of 1.0 is a miracle.
An engine/infrastructure update is badly needed, but there are plenty of interviews by YoshiP of him explaining why that is out of the question.
Hmmm, Guildwars 2 is upgrading their engine to modernize their game. Maybe FFXIV can do the same? If not, what is the difference between the two games such that Guildwars 2 can upgrade but FFXIV can not?
Plenty of 10+ year old games have decent housing. EQ2 is 18 years old, and before it went F2P and fell off a cliff, was absolutely excellent on guild housing. Rift is 2011, so 11 years old, and has awesome housing. Even SWToR has nice housing, and that's over 10 years old.
Age of this game has nothing to do with it. See RIFT, which was released in 2010.
The lack of a good instanced housing system is purely design choice and it's a choice that has been failing the player base pretty consistently.
YoshiP has already announced their plans for a multi-million dollar infrastructure upgrade but they're focusing on expanding worlds first because of how large the player base has become.
As for engine updates in general, FFXIV has already been doing that all along as they can. One thing that players tend to forget is that a lot of updates are limited by what players themselves use. No use doing a major engine update if half the player base won't be able to run the game because they can't meet system requirements. We got a lot of updates after PS3 support was dropped. I imagine we'll get more once PS5 has saturated the market enough that few are still using PS4 and PS4 support gets dropped (which probably won't happen until 7.0 at the earliest).
Inb4 it is just non-combat Bozja where you run around milking sheep and harvest wheats in timed events.
i'm thinking that it's only available if you own a house
I would love this only to see the reactions it would cause lol.
Rift, Wildstar, and SWTOR all had superior housing, and that's just the 3 released in the same timeframe as FFXIV. Even Ultima Online had a reasonably robust housing system and that game is over 20 years old. The design of the housing system in this game is awful.
They already remade the game once
The housing system is not great. But i do think it's cozier than the others where it is just complete private instances (not sure about in UO though I never played it). Also FFXIV did not have housing when SWTOR released, as it was still 1.0.
A very long time ago and while they did a pretty good job back then, they didn't fully remade the game, they untangled the spaghetti code but we still suffer deeply from it and I'm not sure how long they are going to keep up with it.
And I have to agree with the others posters, the housing system in most other games was/is better.
Anyway but to get back on topic now, just gonna sit here with my popcorn and watch the forums explode when people realise that island sanctuary won't be a copy of animal crossing.
Im really hoping there Is some form of animal/monster taming so I don't have to rely on my 8 retainers to all farm the same mat for me to be self sufficient In my crafting, I'd also like to be able to plant my own nodes and cultivate my own fish to harvest and but Im sure now Im going to disappoint myself and It'll basically a glorified retainer menu with 18 hour timers.
But If that's too much to ask I just really wanna watch my minions I've collected help plant and harvest, Even If they functionally do nothing It'll make the island feel more alive.
Be a good 1st of April joke.

Will be cool if we can tend to animals too. For example we can have a tame Ovibos and it'll produce Ovibos milk. Feeding and tending to animals sounds like a lot of fun to me than just gardening or sending minions to missions (looking at you WoW), it's the most boring thing ever.
