This launch is a mess.

This is the first time I've logged on the forums in years, and I only did it to point out that none of this belongs in the Technical Support forum in the first place. OP wasn't reporting a technical issue they wanted a fix for; they were leaving customer feedback.

...Actually, I lied. The real reason I logged in was to say that it's criminal that it took until page 7 of this thread for someone to bring up Raubahn EX, lol.

So here is what I have noticed...

Queue puts me at 5700 when I first start. If I am not here when the 2002 error pops up, then I seem to miss the window where I can quickly log back in around the same place I was kicked out. I have been okay-ish with this, but not really. The more appropriate term is "tolerant".

What I am not okay with is just now when I watched the queue count down from 5700 to 1 over the course of a few hours and then get a 2002 error that puts me back at 5500 in line.

Well to be fair there is a bug during the queue that is kicking people. But I came here first also not knowing where else to point out there is something wrong besides general. I think your could consider server issues a technical issue.

They don't have to itemize it to your satisfaction to be correct. SE offered early access if one preordered the game. Early Access wasn't offered as an extra add on or at a special premium, it was bundled in as part of the entire purchase. Therefore, early access isn't free, it is and was offered as part of the $30 to $60 spent to purchase the expansion in the first place.

The amount SE should offer as compensation, that's harder to put a figure on, if they offer any at all. Presuming they did provide players some compensation, say free game time or a refund of $1 to $15, there will always be someone who thinks it's too fair or unfair.

Now depending on the Jurisdiction, the offer of early access could be considered a form of contract under consumer protection laws, and would then make the current log in issues a breach of said contract on the part of Square Enix.

Nice fallacy. The cost of the expansion does not drop after the early access period ends, so no, nobody is actually paying extra for it.

I love how many people are demanding compensation for what amounts to a dollar. Maybe as high as $2.16 if you have the maximum possible subscription like I do. And yet, I'm not complaining because this isn't anything new. This is your standard expansion launch.

Not a fallacy then. The cost was part of the bundle one paid for. If you wanted to argue the price went up after the initial preorder campaign or is being paid for by people who didn't preorder, you would be more correct.
However, any business with a good Accounting department will have a cost analysis done to figure out their cost segments before starting production, and will then price their product so the cost of something offered as free with the product is actually included in the purchase price you paid for the product.

It's not about the money, Its the principle. Yoshi P is not to blame, their marketing division is. They promised more copies than they could give out and probably lied about the numbers to Yoshi P. Corporate greed is the real problem here.

As a bus driver, you don't sell 300 bus tickets when your bus can only sit 100 travelers for that trip.
As a restaurant employee, you don't take money for 200 meals when you only have enough food to make 100 meals

As a game developer, you don't sell more expansion keys than your servers can host.

That being said, how do you think the community will react to this?

I have been trying to log in full stop and the only times I get to log in as at 2 am in the morning after trying for 5 hours each day! I'm sorry but they can source servers, they just don't want to pay the price for them atm. However they are prepared to take our money knowing that this was an issue and was going to happen, getting into a cue is an issue. Every time I get into a cue its sitting around the 8k mark. Worse is you think you are progressing only to get booted out and have to restart the cue. Saying they are sorry is not enough. They need to fix it. I am a new player to this game only just subbed a few days before the patch this is a joke right? I never had this issue with NW and they had far more people wanting to log in.

Having to wait out a queue is fine, having it kick you and reset you back to the start over and over isn't okay

Queus are fine, whatever, it happens.

It's sitting in a 10k+ queue for more than 3 hours, to finally get in the game and THEN, get errored out of the game in 5 minutes by a DX bug that's been going on for years, apparently, and getting dropped back at the end of another 6k+ queue to start all over... WTF

if that is the case they could not sell any more products or allow account activations once the amount of accounts grew to more than they can handle, which means it would not exist at all anymore and not have had now 4 expansions in the past 8 or so years. Though the idea of the bus tickets is a similar idea it is not the case and here is why. there were X (say 4000) of the physical collector's editions available. in your scenario if they sold more than they have available you are 100% correct unless they said hey there was an error and those in excess of the amount in order of time would get that money refunded. but digital content is not limited untill the ACCOUNT DATABASE is full, which generally will be a huge number. it is when the account database gets full and crashes that is when they should have acted before. but till then, the amount of accounts and expansions purchased does not matter because not everyone generally will be running and signing on except during times like this. the game grew in popularity for the last 4-6 years and in the past year skyrocketed and there was no way to anticipate Blizzard coming under fire for deplorable work conditions and leaks that the gms hated the players (high ups) and didn't care what happened with the players if they came or went they expected if one left two or more would take their place till one leaves again and they again expected 2 or more to take their place. The time was right for a mass exodus because of these two factors since the game play had been stale for a while (because of the latter of the above) people left, what did they find out there? FF14 still holding strong and growing so people told people that told people. and in 2020 finally they came in droves and by then we were already well into the run on computers and servers because of pandemic and then the chip shortage. nothing could be done at that point. so NO there is nothing like a cap that has been reached and if it was set that way then the game would NEVER survive or GROW

this issue will even out in the future as people rush their way to max their classes out and get the story. they will stop logging in so much after about 3 weeks maybe 4 and it'll even out. this type of congestion is normal. problem is the safeguards they have in place to prevent a huge queue from crashing the server. and i do not believe it's a DX error though it's reported in such a way because that's what the clients will see it as. The servers are solid and not wavering as they did in the initial onslaught of people. it's all in how a digital service deals with so many people at once and it is seen in wow, swtor and all other mmo's. Bear with it if you can, but it will stabilize. I've seen server loads of 3-4K delay before yesterday and the servers didn't falter and the login queue worked just fine. it is really to do with the massive numbers turning out for this.

I wonder how many people on these forums have gotten to log in and actually play? Who has made dozens of attempts since EA launch to this point and not gotten in at all?

to expand upon this: it would be great to see SE come out and say how many people have successfully logged in, as well as the number of active accounts they have (won't see this number though). I further would like to know if anyone's seeing a good bit of GIL SPAMMING.... or if they are on a break till they can log in. lol... lots of fun things to see if you had the right access

Europe has literally 1/2 as many worlds as NA and 1/3 as many worlds as JP. The majority of people being vocal about their disappointment and dissatisfaction are players on the Light/Chaos data centers in EU. I wish those of you defending the state of the game would have more compassion for your fellow WoL instead of gaslighting our experiences and being dismissive just because you've been able to get a lot of playtime in. People being able to log-in reliably has not been a universal experience for WoL around the world. Half my FC has literally been unable to login for any reasonable duration when they have a few hours to spare after work.

If you think critiquing the state of a game we love and want to see get better is toxic then that's your problem. Critiques and player feedback are an essential part of improving games. If seeing critiques on the forums are going to make you lash out at those who dare to voice their dissatisfaction then maybe stop browsing the forums and go pickup a book about how to have a genuine conversation/debate without name-calling and gaslighting the person you're engaging with.

All I have done is fight the sensationalism that accompanies these releases. I support anyone deciding to stop paying or that just posts an observation, but if they start saying that the company is responsible for things like this when most of what could be done has been done there is nothing to be gained there. I also will put down people demanding refunds as there are EULA's and ToS that cover that, but if they politely ask for a refund from SQenix properly I'll support them. I have been both able to log in and play and been affected by the aforementioned issues and I have not been crying hell and damnation because of the issues.

Oh it's been a pain all the way around when it comes to log in. There's no denying that. Some critiques and feedback has been constructive, but some has been down right whiney. You know that kind of whine where you demand stuff and come off like a privilege spoiled brat, to have what you want, when you want it whine. Much is just a just a repeat of what is already known and been expressed over and over. A few has been based from the lack of knowledge in all aspects of the issue mixed in with the trolls, well that becomes a new kind of pain on of it's own merits alone. Yet I must say it gives me something to do while waiting in the queue. I weed through all the above mention to look for the sensible critiques and feedback.

Stop gaslighting, most of what you have said doesn't make sense. Your account database presumption is meaningless here. Just because a computer can create records to an insane number, doesn't mean that there is no cap on account codes. No competent business designs an accounts system that continues to take purchases in excess of the inventory on hand, this is common business accounting.

The word is "forecasting", many business models across all industries, especially in consumer services rely on this, daily. They knew ahead of release that this was going to be an issue, we know this because they told us so, if you research communication prior to EA. They should have stopped and said, "Listen, we want to provide the best service. We know what will bring the experience into the red, because we are professionals and we cannot compromise the experience for those who got in first. As at this time we are "All out of stock"". Just like every other business does when their products run out.

If you have been playing in the month prior to EA, you would be aware that you have been in a queue almost every time you have tried to log in for the last month, and this is when Endwalker isn't even live yet. The company would be even more aware of this. They would also have the ability to identify the numbers for purchases of the expansion and which of those expansion upgraded accounts were online and which were not. This would tell them who was waiting for release to resub after making the expansion purchase(forecasting), there is no way they were unaware that they sold more than they were capable of serving as stated. Your misunderstanding of digital goods is flawed. I also work in a digital goods and services industry for internet services and there are policies and processes in place to check for "service availability". We don't sell digital services to people where they cannot use the product.

The conversation about blizzard and growing population, etc ... all off on a tangent. They already told us well in advance that there was going to be a queue's issue. We know they were aware months in advance that their population has increased without the expansion even landing because of the Blizzard exodus. They had mnore than enough time to make changes to accomodate this, including pushing the release date back until they were in a position to provide the service.

There is a cap, you saying there isn't one when all logic, reason and decades of digital services business practices show this to be the norm across the world, won't make your fantasy any truer. You don't seem to understand accounting, supply and demand and provisioning in the digital sector very well.

Get a job at an ISP in the networking or provisioning side of the business, this will help you understand.

That's fair.

With that being said, Square Enix is, in my opinion, still responsible. I'm aware of the measures they took and my critique was and still is that those measures aren't enough. At the end of the day chips are still being made and sold, albeit only to the highest bidder and for far above their usual market price. The reality is that Square Enix has decided not to invest in the infrastructure for a smooth expansion release because the current day cost of said infrastructure was deemed by them to be not worth it.

I don't think it's right that friends can't spontaneously hop on to play an MMO together because of massive and unstable queue times, even if it is in the context of a major expansion launch. I don't think it's right that some of my FC friends have yet to even experience anything related to FFXIV post-Endwalker launch because their daily several hour long waits weren't enough to get them past the queue. You're not wrong that the ToS covers SQuenix in the event that they are unable to provide game-time, but realistically that is drafted to legally cover them in case of emergencies. I don't think using the ToS to defend SQuenix from critiques regarding their anemic preparations for this launch does anyone any favors.

no you stop trying to gas light me. because if you said alright, we can only hold 850 people at any one time per world server then the number of accounts could never increase till they upgraded that (you yourself said you can't sell 300 tickets to the same bus time/route that can only seat 100 in your post) so that is what you are limiting the amount of codes that can be bought till an account is removed from that database, that is a small number. and if you know mmos like you try to know, those first 850 people will not all log on at any one time and without more people then you can not get a revolving period of time where people will play. because they will all either QUIT and stop paying OR they will only play during the prime time for gaming on that world. and you COULD only delete an account if the user requested it deleted because they would loose progress and if they were intending on coming back. the game would slowly die as more and more couldn't play at the same time as their life circumstances dictated, because you would have no money coming in.

Now could you get unlimited accounts to work? heck no you couldn't. that was to show the flexability of the digital workings of the server environment. the server environment user numbers are only limited by the user database programming and maintenance. so you want to "FORCAST" how many people will be there.. sure thing alright lets say they've gotten through base launch and been operating 2 years (heavensward time period i believe) they might have hit that server limit to keep the server working and not overloading it. Alright perfect, now they are at a loss because they can not allow new players to buy anything till the old crew requested their account removed. OK! great! now, how to they keep the money coming in? they can only offer it to those accounts that are still in the database but they can't sell more because of your "you can not over sell the server limit"

That's what you said. it will be all out of stock, and though they might get one expansion maybe two eventually most people will bow out as less and less keep going past a month or two when they get that. and eventually the game will be shuttered and never get to survive to a 4th expansion. This is why they can not and will not limit the number of DIGITAL products sold. you are trying to make it on them, when the issue is just purely a queue overloading and that is something to look into YES. and YES I've been playing for over 1.5 years straight and I've had queues almost 95-99% of the time playing during that time, never once was it over 2000 people except when there was a server outage and people flooding back in when it came back up. most queues were less than 900 and even then that only took about 5 minutes. I understand supply and demand, provisioning (in the digital sector) and accounting (though i'm not a certified accountant) but I am a certified IT and security specialist, I pointed flaws in your theory and you say i'm gaslighting you? If that is so, your own response telling me i'm gaslighting me and even then ATTACK my personal knowledge you know nothing about, my AGE that you know nothing about, and MY experience that you know nothing about, if that isn't gaslighting then well someone has their definition wrong. I never said that you were wrong, on the contrary i AGREED with you if the product was PHYSICAL, 100% agreed and pointed out your examples were of a physical nature not of a digital nature which you were trying to apply the physical upon the digital which is rarely the case.

yup keep getting 3001 error here too and the queue i'm trying to get into is like 190 same thing happened same time last night 7 to 11.30 was just 3001 until it finally let me in. wouldnt care if it was putting me in a queue but not even putting me in one is kinda very frustrating

"Considering that we are asking players to wait in queues for extremely long periods of time and the ongoing situation making it difficult to play normally, we have decided that during the official release of Endwalker on December 7, we will be granting 7 days of free game time to all players who own the full version of the game and have an active subscription.

So, looks like they can't fix the issues so instead are granting compensation, which is just about all they can do at this point, TBH I still believe Square E is entirely at fault here selling far more early access's to the game than they can possibly handle I can only presume it is still yet only going to get worse once the "official" launch starts in a few days.

I feel extremely sorry for Yoshi and his team I'm sure they are receiving the most flack for the situation, but they only develop and make the game, they DONT sell l it, the monetary side is entirely Squares

Feels bad for people who took time off to play...spending 3 hours in a queue is not ok...

What is not ok that you get those 2002 errors after waiting those 3h in a 5k queue line. You wait those 3h and finaly are like in the first 100 people in line only to get 2002, you instantly relog and "you cant connect back to lobby as it gived you instant 2002", after next try you log into queue at the end of the 4-5k line.

This is not ok. why not kick those that sit in game for 6+/10+ hours nonstop "for health reasons" and let others who also paid for the game to get some fun too. This is early access cant even imagine what will happen durring official launch...

Same here, kinda beyond frustration :( trying for 3 days now, would've been nice to be able to at least log my Character let alone actually play the game, total of 10 hrs in queues yesterday with multiple 2002 disconnects
Currently in a login queue for 7500 and it seems rapidly rising every 2002 disconnect, couple of hours ago queue was 4500

I mean they knew before hand, they increased the number of servers for the Japanese region but chose not to for NA nd EU regions, and the Japanese region as far far less players than EU

This is not okay, no semiconductor whatever shortage can justify this, no login server limits can justify this either. Fix your architecture or don't release if you cannot guarantee the stability of your crap.

I feel for the team, and I thank them for the kind gesture of an extra week of game play on their dime. I appreciate it and the information they have shared. it has confirmed my thoughts on this and I stand by what I have said. Those that have missed time away from work, well i'm sorry that has happened but there are times that you should realize there will be hiccups in the process when such an anticipated expansion. as has happened time and time again in may different mmo's.

I'm sorry you feel that way... you can't fix login limits or internet bad packets, this can come from anywhere and login limits (queue limits) are designed to protect the sever from crashing, which would impact how ever many that are in the game and cause instability, loss of progress and items due to a server instability.

The lobby server is the real problem. Dealing with 4k+ queue is annoying but "normal" in a new ext launch. But waiting in a 3-6k queue and have to do it again and again because the lobby crashed is obnoxious....
100% of my 2002 error were with less than 50 player queue, i don't lost packet for 3 hours but it happen every times in the last 30 sec ?

Yes you can, you can provide adequate capacity to accommodate the number of players you sold the access to, Square knew this number before hand, its 100% their fault putting money over quality of service.
And seeing how they clearly did foresee the increase in player logins they increased the amount of servers for the Japanese regions and guess what their playing the game with very little issues while for NA and EU regions they chose the save money and not increase the servers. 100% Squares own doing

Some issues with a new exp are fair enough, even a 30min to an hour queue is not too much but this as it is now is far from acceptable.

Please expand upon your knowledge that the experts on hand could not do. and no getting new equipment was not the problem. ALSO the japanese servers are locally on hand and they can work at them, in other areas there were and are covid travel restrictions along with the semi-conductor shortage in getting said equipment as well. Please tell us what your more than expert advice would be on how to accomplish that fact? doubt you can. oh and increasing the number allowed in login queue is NOT the answer as that would lead to server instability.

So I basically was sitting in the queue for too long and my session was forcibly dropped by the server cause "reasons". This is a shitty architecture and software design. Like, what the actual heck? "You are in the queue for 3 hours and almost made it? Oh yeah, right, let's reset it and make you sit in another queue for 3 more hours cause our precious server can't wait any longer!" How can you even defend them while such an atrocious thing has been introduced by them?

There is no excuses for them in any way shape or form, they sold a service they could clearly NOT provide, again Squares money first service second
They could of restricted the sales, a time limit etc (they did it a while ago for new players starting the free trail because the player amount was increasing faster than they could provide for) but no they chose to keep accepting the money, meanwhile for their "home" playerbase" they upgraded the service to make sure they would be OK.

I mean srly Japan has 32 servers while the entire EU has 12!

actually there is always a queue user limit because to have so many in queue could possibly make the server unstable and what ever that number is different for each specific server. also you will notice that they said that more than likely it was the fact that the client received a bad packet causing the CLIENT to error out. and that can come from them, or any of the nodes between you and them (and happens much more frequently than you might think), including your own isp and your own routers. nice way to only latch on to what you want to use to try and prove it was their fault.

Sorry to say but this launch is a shame for this game...

seriously such a great game... so many good stuff in it and you didnt count that many people are willing to log in while you open it up?
