I think that perhaps using light around the character from a lantern attached to the waits (so your vision is really reduced in some evil dungeon) or lighting torches on the wall would be cool but carrying a torch in skyrim has always been annoying to me lol.
gtfo torch Im going to use my fireball to light the scene. (taking up my weapon slot)
Maybe I'm alone in that feeling..
Not going to lie... the idea of doing quests to raise the lights in an area to expel the ghosts would be interesting...
I'd also like to see the Unknown Soldier NM be more... human shape and less flying snot ball shaped....
I remember playing Dark Age of Camelot years and years ago , and how creepy the night time was. No game has felt the same since.
I said what i want to see regarding this sort of thing in the thread attached to my signature. As for needing torches/lamps to keep the area lit...i would want it done in a way thats not gonna annoy the heck out of me. Though that reminds me of Crystal Chronicles having to haul the crystal around everywhere, with more people it might not be so bad... i played the entire of that game solo =(
Torches that can be targeted and lit by blm would be cool. Or lit be anyone up close, but blm from a spell distance
Yeah torches and and oil on the floor everywhere and and zombies and and dwagonz!
Not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but making nighttime scary would also entail different musical arrangements for nighttime. I realize this would probably be a workload for SOKEN right now, but I think if you guys actually go towards making night time scary the music has to be there for it :)
It would be really cool if we had to play the "Oh shit" duck n dodge at night because of undead spawns =)
prease prease =D
Is it just me or are entire sections of comments missing?
Nm, mods did some ninja deleting
I think weapons that give off light because of logic is great (in a dungeon or not) - but in these dungeon torch required settings I seriously would either like to see torches / glowing stones / lanterns put on the belt to create a low visibility radius but not a PIA in your main/off hand (not everyone has an offhand). Make a few non-weapon glowing objects like perhaps the sun-maggot helm from Dark Souls. Or there is a single torch / lantern and it is stricly part of the design for the party to have one person become a light bearer - like heading out into the darkness monsters collect but in the light only a couple come into the rink at a time.
Like Roxy said (similar to what he said.. :P ) could be some awesome dungeon mechanic. Just dont make it annoying. Also im not aganist darker nights in general (visibly darker) and more sinister, just saying dont force me to be blind unless I carry a torch in a weapon hand - because you cant do that if you are a MRD (or insert two hander here). Which would be very annoying.
Lol just noticed that. Anyway dont bring it back into the thread :P - that stuff just clogs threads progression and kill it in its own way. Very annoying.
Yeah that is what I was trying to get it with the 'light-bearer' guy in a dungeon. He holds the lantern and guides the party, perhaps he gets a few special abilities from holding the lantern that he can use (for more excitement). Monsters could be coming in and attacking the party using spells that push them around, trying to take them into the darkness - to make safe areas you could light torches on the walls.
It could really be a full on sinister dungeon mechanic.
Maybe areas were you need light because you have to be able to see so you can jump over a trap
The other way around, actually :p.
They are aggressive during daytime and also have nastier TP moves during the day.
In either case, I too think the nights of v1 were way too bright. I mean, you would get the HDR-glow around your character at midnight if you looked up at the clouds in the sky. That shouldn't be possible, really. I think visibility should be decreased during night, but not so much that you couldn't make out the contours of enemies and characters right as they enter the visual range where they "pop" into view.
I also like the idea of enemies that change behavioral patterns based on time of day, weather and/or which day of the week. Elementals appearing during weather is a nice touch, for example. Magic aggro was at times a bit annoying in FF11, but it did make for a more dynamic environment. What if elementals would only aggro magic of elements they didn't like? Dark spirits would aggro you if you used light elemental magic, light spirits would aggro if you used dark magic, etc.
I really think undeads should show up, and I think they should be dangerous relative to the area's level. Don't make them so strong that encountering one would mean certain death, of course. We should have a chance of killing it.
Lol, this sounds very exciting! that creep sounds the wights make omg!! :)
I'd like night-time to portray different themes in different areas. Some areas could be:
- Scary
- Beautiful
- Calm
- Awe-Inspiring
- Lonely
- Surrounded by woodland creatures
- Tense
- Claustrophobic
- Really high up but with a view (i.e. climbing a gigantic mountain, up on a cliff or crossing a bridge)
- Sleepy
- That sheltery feeling that you get when its raining so you take refuge in the middle of a tree (I've done it irl, growing up surrounded by Redwood trees)
Night time being scary makes me think of Dragons Dogma. imo that game did it wonderfully (though it's not an MMO, but still)
i agree that making night time scary is a great thing, and i would like for night time to actually be dark.., maybe not as dark as Dogma, but dark enough to maybe need the lamps on the road alittle and whatnot...
I would be very cool if they added in something like ffxi where a skeleton, zombie, ghoul, ghast... is out there lurking among the other normal mobs.
Wights, and Bogeys oh my!
Oh god...
Bioluminescence and fireflys for lighting would be awesome!
As a Keeper of the Moon, I say bring on the Night and all it's perils!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46lGxsZ9_D4 make mobs pop at nite, banshee's, bogy's and skellies like ffxi. this was a cool addition to ffxi. it make dunes, and quifim way more exciting. and as you can see in vid lol they can sometimes kill afk botters lmao.
adding all that will make ARR release in 2 years XD
A cutscene that hits you the first time you witness nightfall in a place that isn't a city or a camp (basicly a dangerous place) where skeletons and zombies dig themselves out of the ground, ghosts manifest out of nowhere and nocturnal monsters crawl out of caves etc would kick so much ass and add to the immersion and experience, and lets the new players know that this beautiful forest isn't so happy and whimsical when the big boys come out to play.
I may be an oddball, but in addition to some areas being "scarier" during night, some areas should also be more dangerous during the day. For example, when it's super super rainy giant toads are everywhere! lol
I think the night time mobs would be awesome. Certainly adds a sense of the world being active and alive. I think the idea of camps as safe havens a nice idea too. Even add a night time NM to each zone that has a random spawn time after "X" hours of being defeated. This NM brings with it a bunch of adds or just a few stronger adds depending on if its a higher level zone or starter zone. Let them raid the camps until they're stopped, or just focus on one camp a night, "stealing" an NPC say the repair or merchant NPC, or maybe the crafting NPC. The only way to get them back is by killing the NM. If you miss the chance the first night then you gotta wait till the next night. If no one or no groups track and kill NM then NPC keep getting NPC-napped rendering the camps only useful in the most basic aspect (leves and teleporting). To still add a small motive (other than NPC rescue) have the NMs reward something decent but not over-the-top like a decent but still still kinda modest chunk of gil, or a unique crafting mat for a sweet item respective to the level of that zone/camp.
