I feel like it's the opposite. Have met only couple of of under aged people here. Well talked to at least. Maybe random or I'm drawn to more mature people.
In my experience people are between 26-40 here.

I mean i could list a whole set of things, but this isn’t really the thread for it. The only reason i typically respond like that is if someone is praising 14 in relation to WoW when both aren’t really that different, it’s just different types of communities that will tolerate more/less from the devs.
Also don't take my replies the wrong way, as I am just curious. OR let me put it this way, we disagreed on a few things but I never meant any disrespect or anything. Honestly it's helpful to learn from different views and hope me replying isn't getting on your nerves. On that front I wish there was a PC cause I want to know what you'll put on that list.
lol.
I'm the same in real life. Tho on here I must look like the :D huggy type. I guess on that front as far as XIV goes I can be? They just haven't pissed me off yet. But I'll NEVER forget Scottzone, Or how they fucked up the ONE chance they could've tried to fix housing, Or why they haven't added instant ones yet. - ITS LITERALLY IN YOUR DNA WITH APTS SE!!!!- The game being super dull on colors on PS4 PRO. The fact we don't have better tools to teach players how to play.... I got a list too. Trust me... XIV is not perfect. I just think it's in a better state then WoW from what I've seen. Least we don't have a " Do you not have phones." Yet. Lets hope we NEVER get that.
That, plus Yoshi is under the impression that 2nd gen MMOs wouldn't appeal to a younger audience. E.g. here. I genuinely find some of his conclusions there bizarre, for lack of a better word. This one was a bit better fleshed out in getting his thoughts across (at least it's closer at identifying what the issue is, rather than it being age-related, specifically), but similar message - they don't seem to be too optimistic about 2nd gen MMOs (as he puts it) as a market, at least not enough to bring another product to it beyond "perfecting" XIV; recently he expressed hope for a 10 year or so lifespan for it, so I suppose they see it as a steady but not overly exciting source of income. Maybe at the root of it is what you mention - if they were to bring a new one to market, it would have a content dearth, hence readily replayable content with low time commitment barriers to access would make sense instead of that and that's the attraction he sees in a lobby game. I'd like to see an action-based MMO from them if it incorporated some of the combat mechanics we've seen in their more recent games, like 7R or yes, even the Kill Chaos TM's demo...
I'm keen to see how BP is going to do in Japan. Very different type of MMO, and one I am open to trying out.
Well said. I used to love WoW, but I left it before it festered into a toxic "relationship" (and will treat XIV similarly depending on how I like 6.0 - same with any MMO or other game.) I'd still go back if there was a big shift in thinking and direction, but alas, not going to happen.
If nothing else, it'd be interesting to learn more about what Yoshi-P likes about WoW. Personally I'm hoping that he's referring to the golden era of WoW which also coincides with the height of WoW's success. It wasn't until Cataclysm that I started to lose interest in the game but at the time there just wasn't a viable alternative option on the market that could hold my interest and appeal to me. Wildstar came close - and had the best housing system I've seen in an MMO to this very day. I also loved the aesthetics of the Dominion. Alas, the game itself ended up going to way of the dodo...
I just hope FFXIV doesn't go too far off the rails but also dares to be a bit bolder and confident in its own potential. Especially where it's story is concerned.
Both FFXIV and WoW are doomed to die the same way. They are effectively surviving because of player nostalgia and a dirth of content patches to keep the momentum up.
I'd say that if they're too different, they wouldn't make for a good comparison. It's because they have many commonalities that people can compare and contrast. The specific differences, as well as how everything fits together, can lead some people to enjoy both games for different (or same) reasons, dislike both games for different (or same) reasons, or prefer one to the other, even to the point of very much loving the one and hating the other. That's just how different people can be.
Nevermind the new content and MSQ and new activities lol
And id say FFXIV has a very smart system. People view it as lack of content, but its simply spreading it out.
If everything planned for the expansion were dropped all at once, you know there are people with way more free time then the rest of us that would burn through everything in a month or 2, then complain they have nothing to do.
All Yoshi-P was really getting at is that you'd not hit the same kind of success with a game built like this now as it did back in 2014. Just way too many competing models right now with other titles. I actually think there are things that MMOs could steal from Genshin Impact as well as something like Resident Evil Village. Also space and server costs are a thing with 2nd gen MMOs.
MMOs have a bad reputation and XIV still has the 1.0 luggage. Even thought it has been changed from that to the "critically acclaimed".
XIV used to live on nostalgia and to be a massive theme park.
Can't say that anymore. The game is at a point where they drew mostly everything they could from past FF, we're at the point they have to reimagine existing concept such as the Weapons from FF 7 to implement them in the game.
We also have a lot of new bosses and content that isn't based on Nostalgia.
ShB remained a good expansion despite covid and cut content. Maybe in 10 years, people will play for Nostalgia about ShB.
But right now, people play for the current content they enjoy and for future content.
When Riot MMO will be release, I'll definitely check it out for a bit of fresh air, thought.
I mean, it’s still a massive theme park what do you mean? Weapons weren’t original, they’re ff7. The storyline may be different but it doesn’t change the fact the boss idea is directly ripped from it. Nier raid bosses were literally ripped from nier itself, music as well. 5.3 trial was major theme park fanservice,Bozja being ff12 inspired what with glamour and bosses and music directly ripped from the game, and apparently Endwalker will be majorly pulling from ff4,ffx, and ff2. So i’m not sure what you mean by “they drew everything they could from past ff.” That isn’t even close to remotely being true. There’s multiple games they can still pull from and are. This game has and always will be an ff theme park.
Well, then there is no solution for you then. Lol.
If you can do bloody everything the game has to offer in that short amount of time, I truly wonder what kind of free time you must have.
...what is Genshin Impact and RE:Village doing that would be learnable for an MMO:RPG?
These are all different types of games that are made and function differently..
Yeah, Genshin Impact is mostly just a single player RPG with a gacha system attached with some multiplayer elements on the side. And RE: Village is a single player horror game. Not really sure what they are expecting from these things in an MMORPG. lol They are trying to compare apples to...I don't know, pork chops? Either way it doesn't make much sense.
I mean it’s not my fault the content doesn’t have many layers. If they made it more elaborate or enjoyable then i’d probably spend more time on it, example being the relics. If they continue to make it tedious and stale, then i’m going to rush through. You act like the content takes forever to do lmao. Don’t need much free time for the scraps we’re given.
YoshiP got the Director job because he's an MMO connoisseur. Always talked about how much he loved WoW, GW, and DQX when he was on that team.
