Eureka was 100% inside Eureka. That's why some people didn't like it, becuase you couldn't do your normal activities and work towards it (kinda like the anima).
A couple of the things I mentioned. Daily missions that provide a way to progress in rank. Benefits from completing the challenge log. "Kill 10 things and get me 10 bear asses" type quests that are repeatable and give mettle. Hell, I would even take WoW-style faction grinding. I'm not afraid of grind at all. I'm the type of person who gets to 99 on all characters with all best weapons and all best equipment and all side quests completed in FF games. Grind is my middle name. I just want something where progress may be small but consistent and on my own terms. Let the quest updates/faction updates happen from Skirmishes too, for those who do enjoy doing those. Then you could solo, small group, or full group and everyone could progress.
Also make any instances associated with the questline doable with Trust NPCs or groups, your choice, to alleviate the idea that the instance is going to have a limited shelf life. And don't wait for the next expansion to do this.
I have nothing against grouping. I often do it. I hate when it's my only option. I hate when I can't log in that night and progress on my own because I'm tired and just want to chill and not be "on" like I have to do in a group. I will avoid the content rather than have the choice made for me. That's why I quit hardcore raiding after EverQuest and don't do anything past 24 mans or the random Extreme here. Every night I logged in was either raiding or getting things to key for raid zones or getting drops for this or that other thing. My time was never my choice if I wanted to have any sense of progression.
I've actually started tooling around on a new character with the EverQuest II sub I still have kept after 17 years (in case I wanted to go back and I do go poke around sometimes) because the new supposedly casual content here makes me feel like I need a second job for it and there's nothing else to do and I can make small and steady progress with my warlock in EQII with all the solo questlines. I'll eventually hit a content ceiling where it segues into grouping and raiding, but it works for now. My mantra is that when it stops being fun, I stop doing it. Keeps me from burning out. So I've stopped XIV for now. My sub is active until December.
Lmao I had better decide which Eureka weapon I want to grind up then, cos it looks like I'm in it for the long haul. Thanks y'all~
yep after this and viera not being able to wear the new bozja helmets I think Im done, gonna see what they annouce friday if its nothing about viera hats Im done. I did bozja today it was horrible then its either do more bozja or CT raids 15 times for relic NOPE
I wonder if they'd ever add more interesting loot options from both Bozja and Eureka. The glamour drops in Eureka are a great start (like Scorp harness), but it'd be nice to see something akin to what we get from Treasure Maps (crafting parts being the most profitable/interesting).
I personally got the 2nd part of Bozja and just haven't touched it. Eureka is similar in that I got to the ice-zone and, while it was more interesting than the first, it was just a chore to me.
I would love to go in there for an hour or two and get something that makes it feel worth the time, with NO connection to the relic gear at all.
Design choices and implementation aside, the one thing I did like about Bozja was the duels. Especially Sartauvoir.
Finished the new 24-person instance, and it's literally the most un-fun thing I've ever participated in during my 7 years playing this game. I will never be setting foot inside again.
SE is predictable and I would say safely so but not always for the better. After Eureka and finding it impossible to get into more than a frag farm/learning party for BA, I gave up hope on getting the Ozma mount. I just passed on this new relic. Straight skip and more than happy that I did that. I have had more time to play FFXIV content I want to play and do the things I want to do. I did try out the DoH/DoL relics, to that side I liked them. They are nice as you can do them over time or skip the ones you don't care for on your own with no one else. They are also nice as they are optional, the i490 crafted gear is more than enough to last into 6.0.
Having said all that, I liked doing the ARR and HW relics. I did them when they were current content at my own pace. Even with some low drop rates (11%) I still did actual content. I could be farming a part and do fates with FC mates or help them get into dungeons that I also needed for relic. It was fun and I met a lot of great people in the ARR/HW relic.
I did the new 24man raid, twice to be exact.
First one was full of death ppl but we never wiped. Second was way more smooth, i called the basic mechanics before each boss and barely anyone died.
Even whit thqt the bosses feel like an HP sponge, they was doing the cycle mechanics like 5 times (in part cuz nobody was using dmg logos) but overall feel ok.
My main problem is the weapon, you need to farm and ungodly time on bozja for first step or do 15 Crystal Tower runs.
Ok, i did 15 Crystal tower runs, and i though, now comes the easy part 18 fates on gyr abania and 18 fates on doma...BUT NO, the drop rate on fates is like 5-10%... so you fqrm and ungodly amount of fates or be ready for 18 lvl60 24man raids + 18 lvl70 24man raids.
And after all that, do 15 runs on new Reginae raid, and all that for 1 simple weapon.
Idk but for me is worse than Pagos grind... by a mile... i dont see myself doing all relics this time.
15 times, not again
Just got into Castrum for the first time... only 17 people. It's bad enough this is a "Rare" CE, but you need so many people to complete this and hardly anyone joins. Why couldn't this be like a DF Raid or something?
I... I want to continue my Relic, but I think I'm not going to be able to complete them this time around. Absolutely awful game design.
After my previous attempts at clearing Castrum Lacus all ended in wipes at the first boss, I queue'd for it three times tonight with each group only getting between 20-22 people in even with near full instances. Bozja has been pretty disappointing. I'm probably not going to be able to finish my relic, or the story, this time around unless SE does more adjustments.
It's not the only option though. You can complete PoTD 15 times instead.
1st step - 15 memories from either Bozja CE's or 15 CT runs
2nd - 18 memories from either Gyr Abania fates or Mhachi runs + 18 memories from Far east fates or Ivalice runs
3rd - 15 memories from either Delubrum Reginae runs OR PoTD
Besides the 1 time for the story, you don't have to step into DR outside of your own will.
I can name most of them xD.
I absolutely love Bozja. Never did Eureka and it seems that most people who complain about Bozja always throw in that they liked Eureka, so maybe that’s why, but I don’t see the hate for the content. The characters are so well written and the queen has a fantastic look to her.
My only real disappointment with the new raid was how out of left field a lot of the bosses were, like the alligator thing. I was expecting to see more of the bozja characters and fight some of the guys from the fates.
Thing is, at least the first round is NOT 100% drop. Personally know from the CE's, and someone told me out of CT.
I've been spamming Syrcus all evening off and on. Nearly done, thank god. It's a 100% drop, I can assure you, at least from raids. Don't even need to be playing the job you snagged the quest for either. The drop rates are complete and utter crap from CEs though. And they supposedly aren't much better from Fates in the open world in the 2nd step.
Haven't read through all the comments and have yet to run the new content, but I will. All I'm gonna say for now is that I haven't spent too much time in Bozja up to this point because it was way easier grinding Fates in HW zones to get my relic weapons. And a 24-person raid does not sound appealing to me, personally. Raids are not my cup of tea. I do them once for the story and that's it.
I'll post later once I've done the new duty, etc.
PS. I will say that there seems to be some serious revisionist history going on with Eureka. During SB this forum was ABSOLUTELY FILLED with Eureka hate. Non-stop. Several threads. Going on for pages.
Now all of a sudden it's this great content that people miss? Um...yeah, okay.
To be fair, Bozja has very few redeeming qualities, I've personally never bothered with Eureka either but Bozja just feels like they didn't even try to make it enjoyable, they just stuck a bunch of fates and new bosses in an ugly instanced zone, split it into 3 with arbitrary level gates separating the 3, and then randomly decided to take the major bosses and hide them behind an ugly barrier with an arbitrary player limit because god forbid too many people at a time have fun.
I really wish it was enjoyable, and I can see the parts where effort was put in, but they really dropped the ball with Bozja, and once the community pretty much realized that Bozja is utter garbage SE decided that the best course of action is to make it required to wade through the garbage that is Bozja or else we'll never see another relic step again.
sup
I hated Eureka until Hydatos and yet I love Bozja. My only complaints are that, yes, the Southern Front is pretty drab, and it sucked until now how few people wanted to do Castrum Lacus Litore on a regular basis.
Everything is so fun. I have had Lost Cure in my second duty action for months and can solo literally everything and get max points if I want. Bosses are very fun with their mechanics and, provided you have a way to cure yourself for unavoidable damage or if you're tanking, the game gives plenty of notice to dodge attacks and stay alive.
I don't constantly feel like I'm in agony when traversing the map, constantly trying to avoid sleeping dragons or narrowly going through passages while having to walk to avoid aggro. While enemies do have a large leash range, unless you're purposely running blindly, there are no issues dodging any enemies in the zone at all. The closest thing may be the Bozjan Coblyns just north of the second staging point, and they're rank one and die with ease.
The gradual opening of the map works pretty well. I was introducing my girlfriend to the zone earlier today, and counting cutscenes from the in-instance quests, she got to rank 7 within 3 hours. You don't have to bend over backwards to level up in this place like in Eureka.
Watching players duel and cheering them on is a blast as well. I have yet to try since the first week, but I am learning a lot from watching others, and I plan to take on Gabriel, Sartauvoir, and Lyon when I have the opportunity.
I did Delubrum this morning and had fun as well. My entire party, all 8 people were damage dealers. I subbed Cure IV to make sure we had more healing, and we had one or two Red Mages providing raises for our own party. There were many deaths and yet I still left the instance only down roughly 50,000 mettle. We finished in something like 60-70 minutes, and we wiped against one of the bosses once. My experience is going to be unique, I'm sure, but two points:
1. This is day one and people are learning the content and how the bosses use attacks, and these bosses have some very unique and cool mechanics that take some time to understand the further you get into the zone.
2. You can and will have experiences like me where you end up in a party full of damage dealers, so you need to pull your weight. They let you choose lost actions and adjust your holster at the start, and you can do that any time you wipe as well. No healers? Use an essence and pop on Cure III or Cure IV- congrats, you're a healer now! No tanks? Platebearer + Lost Incense, have fun. Worst case scenario, you can still play the jobs you love, just with a twist.
I can tell you already, as much as I enjoy Bozja in its current state, I don't know how Lacus Litore and Delubrum will continue after the content ages. Castrum practically requires 24+ people in its current iteration, and with Delubrum not being a part of Alliace Roulette, the group content will begin to stagger. Square-Enix will definitely have to adjust this over time to prevent anymore issues from happening like with Hydatos, but that's not on my mind in the immediate future.
What is on my mind right now, is it feels fucking great to be able to solo content like this and continually excel while playing alongside 71 other people. Eureka didn't make me feel this accomplished, despite spending far longer in there than I have in Bozja, yet I still am hungry for more. I am looking forward to getting hopped up on tons of +Haste gear to feel even more powerful. I've never felt so thirsty for that kind of progression in this game, while also feeling like it's attainable. I'm along for the ride.
Things i dont like about Bozja:
1. NO BUNNY FATES :(
2. The whole zone looks kinda ugly (even though i understand its meant to be a war zone).
3. Not beeing able to explore the entire zone at level 1 (my friends and i really loved that in eureka).
4. While i really liked the fact that SE gave us 2 options at the beginning to get our relics (one long/grindy and the other one fast/easy), it is NOT OKAY to come back months later with the next step telling people:
"Oh btw everyone who did the fast/easy option... you're screwed."
EDIT:
5. Also the one question i have since eureka: why is there a punishment (formerly EXP and now mettle loss) for when you die and return? Is this some FFXI sh*t that people wished for?
Like seriously if i want to be punished through death, i would rather play Darksouls or Nioh.
Bozja isn't perfect but I honestly like it so far.
Delubrum is fun and I can go there just for the sake of having fun. To be fair, its rewards are bit bad for this dungeon. It's unforgiving - not to the point of being unplayable with randoms, but I still lost about 5k mettle in one run because we wiped - and yet the reward for 1hour+ instance with pretty complicated fights is... 15 coins? Really?
I personally will do the dungeon for enjoyment anyway, but they really should update rewards for it, because right now there's barely any reason for people who has their clear to go there again.
Yeah, no matter how bad Bozja becomes I've had a heck of a lot more fun doing it than I ever did in Eureka.
Heck, I've loved Bozja so far because of the new bosses and storyline. I like the fate lockout idea and the way it's implemented. I like the idea of the duels as well, but feel additional requirements need to be met to queue for them.
The place looks ugly, but that's expected given the setting.
I could see why some would find the place miserable if they grind for hours at a time, but I mean-- that's what I hated about Eureka in the first place.
The biggest issue with Bozja is that it should be the fastest way to level your relic, but it isn't. There should be alternatives outside of Bozja, which is fine, but the actual new content should be the most rewarding and it just isn't. Heck, for the new relic, you can't even do the second step in Bozja- you have to grind fates outside or do old raids.
I believe that's where SE dropped the ball the most. Bozja always should have been the main go to for relics with grindier, more relaxed alternatives for people who didn't want to deal with Bozja itself. You even get punished for failure in Bozja so having it be worse for the relic grind makes zero sense. Of course it would drive people to the easier, non punishing alternatives.
I like it and had fun doing the new 24 man. Only problem I see is the rng on party set ups. But even that can be helped with the lost actions. Not sure why so many are acting like this is the worst thing ever. If you don't enjoy it don't do it, not really a hard concept, boone is forcing you
