I skimmed over a lot of this "rabble"... However, as other people have already mentioned in this (and other) threads, the elemental skills available to BLM and WHM in this game have been seen in other FF games. I loved lots of stuff about XI (and, to be fair, disliked some too), but just because BLM (and WHM) aren't a nearly-exact carbon-copy of how they were in XI doesn't mean "OMG THEY NEEDS TO BE FIXED!!"
I can't speak for all, but I seem to remember that a lot of BLMs on my old XI server really only put merits into thunder/ice/fire spells (e.g., ele-potencies, etc.). Clearly they must have felt that their tier-IV thuder/ice/fire spells were weaker than thier tier-IV wind/water/stone spells... clearly... Good thing there wasn't a full elemental wheel in that game... er, wait.. o.O
