I don't even want different glamours. I mean, I do, but at this point I'll be content if they give me a /carbunclesize command akin to /bahamutsize, but make the current carby size the "small" option. Let me have a giant glowing puppy like Diamond in Idyllshire! I want my St. Bernard-sized carbuncle following me around! (Bonus points if they make it so you can target and /pet the carbuncle and have it react.)
But if they did do it properly, I'd love to see egis tied to lore rather than fights. Let us see things like, yes, Sephirot-Egi or Sophia-Egi or other egis based on eikons from long-forgotten ages. (Heck, let summoners finish out 6.0 with Zodiark-Egi and Hydaelyn-Egi as glamour options.)
I am betting they are going to remove Egi's as a normal, always out pet, and make them more like the MCH pets that get summoned, do a job then vanish.
I'd like to see them do the opposite and go full-on into pet class territory, where the summoner gives commands and the pet carries it out, rather than casting spells at all. But the game's net code would make that a nightmare to actually play.
Another idea that feels in line with what they've been doing to jobs, is that Summon/Summon II/Summon III/ go away entirely. After that your carbuncle/egi is just there period, and where the Summons were before there are three Assaults you use instead. First the targeted AoE, then you get the HP shield, and finally an extra-strong single hit. The Enkindles get merged, or they end up picking one and tossing the rest. After something like that, it's just a matter of tying MSQ progress to which primals you can glamour.
As a SMN main and purist. I have to say that this idea concerns me. I definitely think SMN is still a very muddled job that still needs further changes. However I fear making the Egi temporary pets further removes the SMN identity. They will become an alternate BLM at that point with slightly fancier spells. That for me personally, is the wrong direction to take SMN.
I think they should just make it a full pet class with all the bells and whistles. We can issue commands to the Egi to carry out our abilities. Leaving the SMN themselves with some utility spells (more Devotion like spells). The problem I have with SMN right now is that we have to keep an eye on various different timers at the same time, whilst trying to watch out for fight mechanics. Since 5.0 the dodge windows are so tight now that we can't just wait for a telegraph on the floor anymore because if you're not already moving before the telegraph goes up, then you will be hit. This I feel is an issue unique to SMN that other jobs don't face so much and as such it only compounds SMN's muddled state right now. If SMN was to stay as it was then I feel the minimum that would need to be changed in order to offset this issue would be to add more time to all of SMN's timers by a small amount. Also giving the Egi Assault abilities their own CD again. But frankly I think SMN needs way more changes than just this.
Personally, I want to be able to turn Demi-Bahamut and Demi-Pheonix into big Carbuncles as an option. Would complete the look.
For those who want more egis, I love the ideas from the first post of trying to map alternate forms onto the current 3 types. I think if they just do the 2.X egis, mapping Shiva to Titan (sword/shield tank), Leviathan to Ifrit (serpent coils around and slaps), and Ramuh to Garuda (lightning storm AOE) makes sense. Adding the Warring Triad in as maps makes sense too. Not sure about the Stormblood primals.
I picked up Arcanist entirely because I wanted to play with carbuncles, and their presence trailing behind me out of combat and in-combat as my buddies (except when the demis are out) is my favorite thing. If they were totally taken away in favor of only demis coming out on the current trance cycles, I'd quit playing the class.
I desperately want /carbunclesize to let me have a small, medium, and large carbuncle. I think it'd be cool to customize my friends a little bit and give different ones different sizes.
What I also want is an additional rainbow of colors. At minimum, I want purple, dark blue (like the one in Revenant's Toll (Ruby) that is blue and not the same color as our Emerald), a proper green color that isn't the blue-teal-green of Emerald, an orange, a pink. It would also be nice if we could get diamond like the one you're referencing, since an NPC has it so it's probably a known pattern and not a unique one. Let's call them after different game gemstones and set them up so we can glamour the colors over any of the existing 3 base carbuncles.
Since Alphy is becoming a Sage, maybe they'll let us have Moonstone and Obsidian as carbuncle glamour options in 6.0? Have a short SMN quest where he gifts the WoL his summoning foci for those two? So they're not abandoned forever? If not, give us those colors with different names and say he teaches us something similar - opal and onyx, perhaps?
Honestly at this point, I'd pay the Mogstation for a "Rainbow of Carbuncles" pack that let me unlock like 5-10 new carbuncle colors. Add in glowing carbuncle minions of matching colors and that'd be an auto-buy too. I would rather get these in-game granted to us as just commands to go /amethystcarbuncle to go purple or whatever, but if I have to buy it I have to buy it. Just...gimme colors.
Ideally we could put these on the fairies too for SCH to reflect that SCH started with carbuncles.
If I could replace Bahamut/Phoenix with a massive carbuncle I might play smn lol.
Honestly though, if they don't have the time to prioritize adding more egi glamours, okay fine, but can they like, add a proper UI for summoners instead of making people use text commands? Put whoever made the interfaces for perform on it shouldn't need to be complicated or anything.
