Would you rather have had Male Viera or Hrothgar?

Also it's quite interesting how the two switch first place all the time. To me this seems like both are more or less equally wanted, although more players might say male viera because they feel bitter of the genderlocks

Thanks for at least trying, confirms to me that the JPN side of this forum is looked at much closer and is modded differently.

And between the poll you posted there, this poll and the one GameFAQ poll I saw on this seems like many people see the value in the Hrothgar.

Pretty positive this is the exact reason why they did it this way. Yoshi-P sounded like he really wanted to add both races with both genders, but is extremely wary/worried about doing so due to the reasons he stated in that letter - all very valid reasons. Hopefully the next two years or so will give him the resources and make him more confident, but at the end of the day I do fully accept the reasoning behind it all.

That said, would love to see female Hrothgar. I'll be switching to Viera for now, but if female Hrothgar do come, I'll happily fantasia right on over.

Easy choice - Hrothgar

I'd rather have had one complete race. Personally I'm more interested in male Viera, but female Hrothgar might have appealed as well. As it is the genders they went with ended up being the worse set of choices for me. -.-;

I was looking forward to creating a male viera, but I have absolutely no interest in hrothgar in any capacity.

I'm kinda sick of hearing this "competition" going on (not targeted toward you). Fact is - if Male Viera do come, then you best believe Female Hrothgar will too and vice versa. They aren't going to randomly go on the NA forums, look at a poll and say "Oh, a very small portion of the NA population has voted in favor of THIS race. Well then guess we'll just do that one!"

I would of preferred Male viera but I'm not upset about Hrothgars inclusion. It's a style of character needed in this game and I can't wait to get my hands on the creation tools when the benchmark drops.

I honestly wouldn't care about what race we were getting as long as it was a full race, If I had to choose personally, I would want viera, but I think it dosen't really add anything to the game.
Let's hope that by 6.0 maybe we have the missing genders implemented for both! ^^

I think people doesn't need to add "reasons" to validate a subjective taste.

If you prefer Hrothgar it's perfectly fine, as it is if you prefer Viera.

Saying that people who like X are whiny or people who like Y are obtuse only shows your own limitations.

What you like isn't what the game needs. It's just your completely subjective taste, speak for yourself. Almost everything added, every new option, every new content is good.

I don't want either. Neither of these two races nor the Au Ra have any appeal to me.

While i'm highly sympathetic to those who wanted male viera, I do think the inclusion of a more 'beasty' type of race was needed for a large slice of players also. Its a very fine line, but I think overall SE made the right decision. It will be easier to (hopefully) flesh out male viera and female Hrothgar as add-ins than it would be to try to add-in a whole new race from scratch later, so I think this route offers the best promise overall.

Just my thoughts.

I'm only a catboi because there is not a better animal race tbh, so i don't want catboi 2: the redux

I'd have been fine with Hrothgar having a set of bunny ears stuck on and Yoshi saying "this what male Viera look like in FFXIV."

The incompleteness of the new races bugs me, 'Au ra 2: bunny boogaloo' would have been fine by me.

Also it would have gone someway to making the beastliness of Hrothgar men gel better with the whole early game beastmen prejudice thing I think.

I'd would have preferred male viera. Hrothgar look like roe with animal heads and I wouldn't play a roe with a humanoid head.

I would say I would prefer female Hrothgar as well but that's me assuming they would have "Mithra" face and not an actual beast head as all MMOs tend to soften the beastial aspect of female counterparts (for better or for worse).

While they may soften the female Hrothgar a bit, I really hope they don't just put a humanoid face on it :( In my opinion, GW2 did a nice job with their Charr - both male and female. The females are a bit slimmer in the body, and their facial features can be a bit more delicate (at least on the one face I can visualize in my head ATM), but they stick to looking like proper Charr.

No offense to the Au Ra (I enjoy fantasiaing over to them quite often ;) ), but I'd really like to never again see the extreme sexual dimorphism that we see with the Au Ra. If they're going to give us beastly men, give us the beastly females also.

I think that it is most likely going to allow SE to add 2 full races ( hopefully ) through the span of maybe 2 expansions (5.0 and 6.0) or maybe, if we are reeeeeeally lucky (very unlikely) we could perhaps see the other genders at 5.3-5.5. I just hope it dosen't take them till like 7.0 like some ppl are saying it would (it might happen, in fact, we maybe dont ever get them, but one can hope)

I think this is a loaded question.

Personally, I would have preferred one FULL race. Be it Hrothgar or Viera. Both genders.

With, if necessary, another FULL race being released later to please the crowd that lost out on their preference.

Essentially, given that their immediate choice was Hrothgar and was later altered to implement female Viera instead of female Hrothgar... I'd have preferred not getting Viera and just getting Hrothgar.

Then, for 6.0, if Viera fans were still pestering for them... Add them then or something.

It'd take more work, because it's guaranteeing 2 Races rather than now where it's just 1 race (Worth of work) with a "Tentative" for the second race (Worth of work) to be included at a later date.

If I were to be asked which one I'd have preferred, ignoring the fact that Hrothgar were planned first...

I'd have chosen Hrothgar. Simply because they seem to be adding more to the game.

Unlike Viera, the Hrothgar aren't copy/pastes of a pre-existing design for pure Fan Service. Yes, they have some fan service in the form of the Ronso-esk design capabilities, but outside of that they're fairly unique to XIV. Also, the Hrothgar add in a race that isn't just more waifu's. While I enjoy waifu's as much as anyone, it's nice to see more character designs than that - Especially from NPC's.

People really don't get this. The reason they're doing this, the reason we're getting this, is because they don't see themselves being able to do another race.

So either you get Viera and add next to nothing to the line up forever other than maybe making a popular tall female for once or you get Hrothgar, who actually greatly add to the line up but would leave Viera fans over looked forever.

So no, there's no option to "release 1 full race and wait for the other race in 6.0".

I prefer male viera over hrothgar.
However, I understand adding female viera and male hrothgar was the best choice as it made those who wanted viera and those who wanted a beast-like race happy.
I would like male viera and female hrothgar to be added some day.

I would prefer to have playable Moogle and Namazu. can make both male/female of those with no effort too.

If you want the missing sexes for 6.0 or 7.0 you have to hope the development team finds a way to auto retrofit gear for the new body types with the help of AI or some other form that makes it a lot easier for them because under their current systems, it is a huge workload for them.

I fully trust on the dev team and thus I think they can figure something out to be able to release male viera and female hrotgar at 6.0

In order for them to do that they would have to figure out how they're gonna handle all this stuff right NOW, before they've even fully judged the added strain of the additions we're getting in shb. Lets also remember that they don't seem to currently have plans that involve developing a new race over the course of the next 2 years so to do so would mess up a ton of time tables.

Earliest you could reasonably expect anything if they decide to do something is 7.0, after an expansion of assessment and examination of time, resources and workflow.

On top of this, Yoshi P has stated they currently have no plans to upgrade the archaic engine they are working with until they see a need to do so. I agree that 7.0 would be the likely target date to see such additions.

You don't really seem to understand that no one is asking for them to develop a new race, and that a missing gender is not as much work as a new race model if they are smart. For thehrotgar they can literally copy paste the heads, change them arround a little bit and take the male hrotgar body or maybe even femroe and adjust them, give them some fur textures, animate them and done. As for male viera, take elezen/Au ra/Whatever, make new heads, give them the female viera ears and animate them. Voila, here you have the missing genders. People who work on the industry already stated that if they were to focus only on this, it would take them as little as 1-2 months to get the missing genders finished, and tha if they were doing it as a side thing, it would take them about 1-1.5 years. The reason why we dont have hte missing genders is not because a group of extremely expirienced and talented professionals can't do 2 playable models in 2 years, it is that they are afraid they can't keep up the release schedule with 2 more models, and im sure they will figure somethin out in the 2 long years that are ahead of us

Male Viera. I have no bunny in this personally, since I'm not changing race. But I'd rather have seen one new race M/F (either one) because it put the boss in a position to lie. Marketing didn't deserve that concession from him, IMO.

Imagine there was no leak and the JP FF was the true announcement - and you realize how coy they were being about it. They KNEW what was going to happen, and I hope it stung enough that they never do it again. As always, we shall see.

It's funny because YOU don't seem to understand that that's not how development works. You can't just slap assets on top of each other and call it good. There's the new body type to account for. The reworking of the existing and upcoming armor to fit the new body type. Animating the new heads and the bodies. Adjusting existing such as hair styles to fit these new heads. There's a lot of work that needs done and the fact that you think it can be done in 1 to 2 months is laughable. As stated above, I highly doubt they'll be seen until 7.0.

In general, I'd really love to have Burmecians as a playable beast race. But in regards to the races we're currently getting in the next expansion, its a really tough decision to make. While its cool we're getting two individual races, we're still left with them being genderlocked due to the difficulties of creating a race, along with genderlocking being something some people are against (me included).

In some cases, I've seen people advocate for holding off one race then in a later update/expansion adding in the other, but that's under the impression that they'd even bother adding another race after doing one complete race assuming they only got so far in development with one particular race that all focus concerning adding a new race was geared towards that one race. I would also have prefered having 1 full race at 5.0 and maybe them doing the other race sometime in the future. Also, while I love the viera, I think that they are just here for pure fan service, so I think full hrotgar should've taken the spot at 5.0

Well, I was actually trying to say that I'd rather both races released at the same time, but at a much later date to ensure they could each come with both genders, I think I just worded my post poorly.
