After Goobbue mount - do we need other mounts than a choco?

Even Yoshida said it was a gift for 1.x players and just something for DoH/L as they can't do GC content (meant for battle classes.)...so I highly doubt they had lore in mind when they started this game.

He doesn't want less mounts, he wants more game quality. Throwing random mounts out there is kind of sloppy and a big decision for the game makers. But sloppy does sell sadly, look at world of warcraft. Square needs to stay alive if I'm to continue playing good video games, so if lowering the games integrity helps them gain the funds they need to keep going, throw as many flying rainbow colored moogle mounts in the game as the "loud ones" see fit.

Adding A FEW new mounts every YEAR or so does not mean they're pumping a huge quantity of crazy mounts and pushing them in our faces. It's a special, rare, awesome bonus and the Goobue is a very iconic monster in the FFXI/FFXIV worlds so it makes a lot of sense. THERE WAS EVEN GOOBUE TAMING IN THE OPENING CUTSCENE FOR UL'DAH, IT'S IN THE LORE, DIPSH*TS!

The Goobue mount was not "sloppy," it fits the lore and the game's aesthetic (goes perfectly well with U'dahs Arabia influences) and its very useful for people who don't want to join a GC right away. If you think it messes with the game's "immersion" then you have some psychological problems you need to work out. Don't ruin the game for the rest of us by asking them to stop the PROGRESS they're making on this game.

Conclusion: THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT NEW MOUNT, YOSHI-P AND THE DEV TEAM, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! :)

If you don't like Goobue, that's great! Don't ride it. But it seems like people are complaining to the devs and asking them to make it so chocobos are the ONLY mounts in game. If that's what you want go play FFXI.

The only thing I wish the Goobue's allowed, is when we point or wave, it'd actually show that animation. I mean come on! We are sitting there all relaxed, we should be able to wave or point easily! Let's get some Animation on this Bi***

It's more of the same. It's a chocobo masked in the shape of a Goobbue. It does nothing special that a chocobo cannot do. Not to mention it has to be one of the most poor NPC's to fashion a mount out of. You can't see what's in front of you while you're riding it; You can't see what's in front of you when others are riding it ahead of you.

Ok, that's a slightly more legitimate complaint than what I was responding to. I was responding to the people that feel they don't fit the lore/break the "immersion" of the game.

I personally have never had a problem seeing when on my Goobue or traveling with other people on theirs, but if that is an issue for you then it's fine to suggest some solutions like smaller Goobue size or allowing the camera to zoom out more while on a Goobue.

However, please don't tell the devs they're doing a crappy job by adding a few new mounts and don't say they should get rid of the new mounts.

For some time now, I've been of the opinion that SE should be 100% necessity and 0% about inessential.

For anyone wondering about getting a million mount buttons, the devs said we are going to be able to customize our Micro Menu at some point, so you can disable any of the mounts you don't want to use.

Goobue mount is great, they just need to raise the camera up higher, although I'd really like a drake mount.

I'm still waiting for my Yoshida mount. I won't be happy until I get it!

Oh this thread again.

There's no lore stating that we can't ride things other than Chocobos so I'm okay with adding whatever they want, as long as they just use the normal monster models with few additions to denote them as mounts. At any rate it doesn't matter either way, Chocobos are the main focus.

Anyways I got a simple solution to everyone that is complaining about the gobbue mount. Dont click on the freaking horn... If you don't like watching others on the gobbue then you basically want them to play the game the way you want because it pleases you. Either way if you can't stop complaning then do me and yourself a favor, uninstall the game, go outside and tell someone IRL they cant drive that Mercedes because it ruins you lolImmersion.

I'm sure for many players, they could care less how other people choose to play their game. But, when how other people play the game somehow impedes the way another is experiencing it, it is unnecessarily intrusive if not downright aggravating depending on the situation.

I just got my Weaver to 30 this weekend and got my Goobbue mount. This is my first mount in FFXIV, since my husband and I haven't finished the Chocobo quest yet. In a time when cynicism about this game runs high, it was really nice to giggle with delight while riding it.

Yes, I think having mount options is a good thing. Maybe I've been spoiled by the other MMOs I've played since FFXI, but I would now get sick of having nothing else to ride but a chocobo all the time.

I'm not saying we need the 100+ mounts that WoW has (see here), but eventually having 10 or so to choose from would make for some nice variety.

I want my magitek mount! :D

That's how they keep the completionist/OCD crowd, by giving them never-ending tasks. Can't say it doesn't work. I do love an achievement system. ;)

Nobody will complain if we only have chocobos. Many people complain with different mobs. Just add different colored Chocobos and all are happy, me included. As some people already said: You cant compare many different ridiculous mobs to ride with past Final Fantasy title mobs like a dragon that fit into the game and made sense with the story and also was just a little part in the game. Even cars or airships is not the same, because they were something special. Many of us like the coming Magitec Armor. It just doesnt make any sense and I want FFXIV to be something different than any other MMORPG. It should be epic and a little bit serious - sure not at all. Agh - it should be Final Fantasy. Just get this.

Not really. It's just like a handful of vocal neighsayers on the forums that always s**t on everything Yoshida does. They'll never be satisfied, and if they were in Yoshida's position, they would be running this game into the ground. I'd wager that the difficulty of adding a new type of mount scales up if they need to create new skins, graphics meshes/models, etc, and scales down if it's a reskin of an existing mob with existing meshes.

That said, yeah, they should add things that make sense with the game's current setting. Goobbues make sense because we've already seen a semi-tame goobbue before. It's not a huge stretch that there's a fully tame one.

Not trying to get into a big thing here but if you actually play through the rest of the Ul'dah opening story quests, it explains why that happened in the first place. Not much of a stretch to imagine that keeping a goob bound in a more beneficial situation would be a lot less taxing.

I mostly use my Goobbue, and I personally cannot wait to have more mounts in the game. They are fun to ride on and changes it up a little bit though I think once Chocobo breeding comes into play down the road and with Chocobo rich history if FF it will always be the most ridden mount. Also the Chocobo get armor and what not, they will look pimp.

I really hope they bring several variety of mounts to the table and maybe even a funny one like a Giant Dodo mount. Would be freaking hilarious.

I really don't think it has anything to do with a specific type of mount, as much as those mounts only being there to give some easy insta-hype, without any real substance to them.

Personally, I view them as event items. Fun for a while but most of the time 95% of them are forever "lost" on my retainer. It adds variety, for sure, but would be nice if we could do more with them, as opposed to new mounts just looking different. Not sure what exactly they're gonna do with Chocobos (except the armour). Breeding or racing possibly (fighting on Chocobos???)....

Not even being able to name my Gobbue sux.

I'd love to see *insert mountable vehicle* racing included at major centres, with the amount of travelling that is required between areas, I already try and "race" other players travelling on the same path, it'd be a new way to get new/better/exclusive spoils, excitingly and objectively reaching destinations to continue your quest, going back to the original idea, itd also be good to have multiple mountables as a separate class system altogether
