to have everything absolutly fair is like saying you can transfer energy from cold to hot without doing work.
That's what I meant. :D

If you want to use your brain while playing XI, play white mage. You have to pay attention full time or *SHOCK* people die. You need to know what moves to watch for or your alliance can't function properly because they're slowed, paralyzed, or slept. xD
This is almost like comparing baseball to basketball. Yes, they're both sports that use a ball, but the rules and gameplay are largely different. Is one better than the other just because it's fundamentally different than the other?
WOW's boss fights are really dynamic and they only last about 10min or less.
there is no way you can watch TV and doing dungeons in WOW at the same time, unless your in a 20man group and is killing trash. even then while you are AFK, you prob gonna get killed if you are not careful.
my white mage was 75, what i found out was while im PTing, I constantly repeat in a cycle. Haste on different players 1, 2, 3, mob cast silence on tank, silena, heal, sometimes a paralyse, and a silence on mob, then haste again. repeat the cycle...
after leveling a long time, my brain almost like suffering neurasthenia... you don't actually USE your brain, you just repeat...till you hit the fatigue limit.
Wow is the most easy mmorpg, ever.
It's made for people who never played an mmo before,it's watered down for them.
Accept quest -------> kill 10 rats -------> Finish quest.
Repeat 3 times,------->go to the next quest hub.
That's it,wow boss fights are even more easy and retarded 123 spam.
This is something accepted in the genre, some people like easy games, others need a game where you actually have to think and not just follow arrows and big !
One thing I liked about WoW that could be noted and beneficial for FFXIV was the NPC's voices.
I especially liked talking to Troll NPCs, "Ya mon" "Stay away from da Voodoo mon." Hehe I love it
I like WoW. It's done a lot of things well I think. I'm playing it now while FFXIV is down. That being said I prefer FFXIV, though FFXI was a bit too hard core for me. I find FFXIV a good balance between FFXI and WoW, and am probably one of the kind of players I think they were targetting to begin with. The bad thing is for SE, is that I am far out numbered by the hard core types who loved FFXI. At the end of the day I like most of what they've done, but I think that most popular suggestions to improve the game would really improve the game, even for a 'somewhere between WoW and FFXI' type of player like me.
yes, this is why i hate ffxiv guild leves, they have the stench of wow leveling on them and i hate them, i'm worried they will keep giving us newere leves and crystals to go to for years calling this new content. fine i guess for now as little sp boosts but not really enjoyable outside the fact that they are party play.
also i agree with the above post, i was expecting lot of npc's in this game that talked as u clicked then or went near them, this game went backwards in mmo's, graphics aside and i really don't care bout the graphics they not so great they can do away with content, and other cool stuff that most mmo's these days are doing or trying to add. besides how many of there players have there graphics up past normal or lowest.
The main problem I see with WoW is the lack of group content, yea there are raids and dungeons but that is just not enough. I would say this is the biggest problem in every single mmo made post FFXI, devs are making Solo player multiplayer games... (my biggest game breaker of mmos, I just despise solo mmos)
outside that I would say these are my major issues with it:
1) Craft system is horrible (click a button 100% success, crazy easy to level up)
2) Everything is designed to let you win and rewards are handed out like candy at Halloween, makes some people feel good but it is a rediculously shallow experience which leaves you with no sense of accomplishment. The All reward no work. Nothing is epic if 90% of population has it.
3) Updates destroy all old content... cataclysm made almost everything if not everything in WotLK completely worthless for endgame.
4) Tiered gear for everything... FFXIV actually has this and I am very weary if this will happen in throughout the game if it does it will be a massive negative that FFXI did not have. This leads to people not doing lower level dungeons, NMs, and raids because the gear will be gimp in 4-5 levels, and is a big culprit of #3.
5) The game throws Gold at you... FFXIV has this to an extent as well but no where near the level WoW's quest do it. You can afford anything just by doing quest in WoW.
Other things not related to game play which made me hate WoW:
1) Community is the biggest collection of crap I ever seen in 1 location ever. (ask for help on a quest and you get 6 replys calling you a noob or worthless trash because you are attempting to do group quest... seriously WtF)
2) The graphics where subpar at launch. (It has improved over the years but the polygon count and texture details are horrible)
3) I do not like the art direction (Looks like I am playing an upgraded more mature toontown) This one is all personal opinion though.
4) Being locked into 1 class.... This was my biggest draw to FFXI over EQ back in the day. No idea why mmos keep doing this but I view it as a cheap way to keep you playing the game.. being forced to play the whole game 6-10 times to experience all the possible classes.
I was referring more to WHM endgame, which I found quite challenging and fun. I had to be on the ball the whole fight, using the right spells at the right time, watching the mob to see what ailment it was inflicting so I could remove it.
Personally, I enjoyed the long fights in FFXI. For me it gave the sense of "fighting an epic battle." I'm sorry you didn't. :) Please let us enjoy our game, and we'll let you enjoy yours. It's as simple as that.
WoW gets a ton of unjustified hate. People wouldn't hate it so much but every developer tries to copy WoWs formula and they fail. You can't out WoW WoW. Blizzard did a lot right with the game even though a lot of people hate to admit it. The fluidity of controls and character movement is still hard to beat. The UI is pretty much the best around and if you don't like it you can remake it to whatever you want, also the way you interact with the objects or NPCs/Players in the game world is effortless and easy, two things 14 completely fails at in comparison.
The bad, the game is so solo friendly the whole way to level cap, and until you get into serious end game content, the community doesn't have to really rely on each other. You also don't level the different classes on the same character, your reputation means nothing at all. People end up only caring about themselves and they end up being rude and impatient, the whole community just completely sucks unless your in a good guild.
The content design keeps you farming the same raids and dungeons for a couple months until a new one is released and all your gear is replaced very quickly. Makes those hard to earned items less meaningful. On the other hand, farming sky and kings in FFXI for years was too far on the other end of the spectrum.
That is why it is taking over 5 months to kill all the current bosses in hard mode, it is all easy and they know what they are doing prior to release? Please if your going to make bad claims that are untrue and fraudulent, keep them to your self. If you can't even be bothered to check the truth of your statements before hand, at the very least say it is just your opinion before somone who doesn't know any better confuses you for someone who actually knows what they are talking about.
Honestly I think devs shoulda stuck to the old "hardcore ways". Back when ppl were a bit nicer. With launch of WoW it opened mmo to more ppl. This is what killing the genre. More ppl isn't always better. MMo do need to be a tad bit more user friendly, but not over the top. It should be a time consuming game, and the gamer shouldn't let that stop them. Rushing content is pointless. WoW brought in the wrong crowd to mmo. And they are taking over the communities. The fps crowd ruining pvp, the casual "core" gamer is brinbging their anti mmo gamer attitude. the " get a life" cuz u play for 6 hrs. Or the typical mmo gamer is a fat man who lives in moms basement.
Nearly all mmo are getting the "noob lern2play" crowd and is what is killing our communities. This was why wow is kinda hated. It brought in too meny of the wrong ppl, who are changing the mmo , not in a good way. I rather have fun in a niche mmo then be misiable in a popular one.
Whole lotta bias and exaggeration up in here.
@ skeeter
WoW UI is pretty ugly. Annoying and hard to pick up if your not a pc gamer. They should give a controler UI and option for those who perfer controlers. Most of WoW hate is justified, its killing the mmo genre. No mmo should be THAT solo able. : / or rude. A rp'er shouldn't get treated like crap on an rp server by fellow rp'ers and bullied.
It's merely a matter of preference. Both games have their ups and downs, and not everyone is looking for the same thing when they play an MMORPG. What originally drew me in to XIV was the fact that it was much more solo-friendly than XI was. I had played a free trial of WoW, but failed to make any sort of connection with the game and lost interest. When the beta became public for XIV, I only played for two hours before I knew i was in love, flaws and all.
I don't see why people can't just agree to disagree, and carry on and enjoy their games. Isn't having fun what games are about, anyways? :/
For the record, I probably have a slight dislike for WoW not because of the game itself, but for some of the players from that game. It's unfortunate, and I know I shouldn't let the actions of the few color my opinion of something like a game, but each time I try to be open about it, someone comes along and does nothing to prove me wrong. :<
I don't hate wow or the players that try XIV but WoW isn't for me. I played it on and off since BC pretty much and could never play it for more then a few months tops before quiting. Its nothing wrong with the game I just like to feel as though I worked for my stuff and I never got that feeling in WoW.
the long fights managing MP and keeping my party healed, hasted and cured of any ailments for an extended period of time made the drops feel well earned. As a DD it didn't feel as rewarding as I just open/closed SCs so mages can blow stuff up faster.

What you say is pretty correct, but only down side is MMo are community based games. If the community sucks it ruins the game. In mmo yes it about fun... but with pother players. Multi player isn't solo. Its playing with or against other players. Like you can't solo (oldy but a goodie) jamse bond 007 golden eyes capture the flag multi player map. It would be pointless. Same with little big planet, its more fun with other players.
It is easy for bad apples tto ruin your fun. They just spread drama and make it hard for you to get anything done. Like I was stalked in ffxi and dealing with high school min/max drama. I couldn't log on for a while cuz when I did I was harassed. My black list was full.
did I say I was better then anyone? I played ffxi for a long time WoW for 1-2 years. Several MUD, and about 12-20 free to play mmo. MMO are community games when you got ppl with their high school bully persona going "lern2play noob" its makes you wonder why they play mmo if they gonna act like that. I never ran into that pre WoW only after launch.
WoW did bring in a crowd who wouldn't play an mmo. As they assume all mmo gamers are fat men. And all role players are tiny nerds who pretend to be wizards or a cult.
Sorry not trying ta be rude but I dis see this transition. And I personally experienced how bad WoW community is as well as mmo after that.
I play mmo to have fun and play with other players. Not get bullied just for sake of it.
I'm sorry to hear that you had to deal with that sort of thing. :< That really puts a damper on a gaming experience, amongst other things. It rather reminds me of one thing I always tell myself when I play a game: "If it becomes a job to play it, or is otherwise no longer fun, then it is no longer worth my time." Sour experiences with an MMO's community can really ruin a game.
I had actually been in FFXI for a good time up until everyone started to leave. I was still rather new and hadn't made much progress due to limited game time, and there was a two week period where I didn't even log on due to work and family. When I DID log on, everyone was gone. The LS I was in was dead, and the friends I had been really happy to play with, well, I never saw them again. After server hopping and continuing to see my friends quit, I just gave up on the game. :<
oh and that drama and harassing was AFTER launch of WoW. Game was fine before hand.
i am not sure about your server but "learn2play noob" persona, harassings and dramas is all over on FFXI's endgame LS, everyone and their mom bots and MPKs at any given time, at least on my server.
Only drama I got was back in the LOLDRG days of FFXI, since I listened to a guy who said "DRG would be the perfect job for you instead of WHM!!" and at around level 50 I kept getting party invites, telling me to go to these random far out places and when I get there they'd either yell "LOLDRG GO LVL A REAL JOB!!" and warp out or not be there at all and send that message in a tell.
After about a week of that sorta thing it got to the point where another completely unrelated group would do almost the exact same except they taunted me in the middle of town for about 15 mins at a time then left to party. Eventually I got fed up GM'd all the lil douche biscuits and they all got temp banned but never came back to the game.
Only person to ever score a spot on my blacklist was the guy who thought it'd be hillarious to make fun of my disability and the color of my skin in LS chat or /say every 15 minutes.
1) Boring/one-sided PVP - why'd they give all the hoard races, pvp based racials, while the alliance got PVE based ones? WEIRD......
2) Instance grinding for Gear... BORING
3) TOO easy - Killing 4-8 mobs at a time all the time, is awesome, but doesn't make for much of a challenge. I used to just chain fight mobs on my Warlock and SP, until my Mana would run out. Eat and do it all over again. Talk about mob farming... BORING
4) Ignorant/Elist people - Far more prevelant in WOW than any other MMO I have ever played. There would Literally be fights in the main cities chat channels constantly.... LAME.
5) WotLK- lol, terrible expansion and what killed WoW for me, other than 1-4.
WoW is no means the worst MMO ever, but it basically brought forth the attitudes of todays MMO players. "I want it easy, I want the best gear and it best be easy to get, and I want to "PWN" mobs easily. It's why harder MMOs like FF11 and possibly FF14 will never do well in the west, SE wants you to earn stuff, western players are against this policy, they want to be given stuff, and WoW is the main cause of this mentality.
Nothing wrong with wow, except that many have been playing the game for 6 years and are getting tired of the same tropes.
Well just to let you know DRG now on FF11 is a freaking godsend . Drakesbane is amazeing and most mobs are weak to pierceing damage. ( lances, polearms , arrows)
But yes in 11 it was allways a Bi**h fest in EGLS where people would do things for themselves and not help the LS. Like people joining geting there AFv2 gear and you never see them again. Or someone loting a silver piece then warping out and droping there LS. Lot of that kind of thing in every MMO. Most people dont wanna work for anything , or be a team player. Most people only do things if in the end thay benifit from it also.
the loldrg was post WoW also. I started before WoW was launched.
ffxi community was 100% what i was looking for. Fun community, alot of helpful players. PPl who would help at the drop of a hat. After WoW launched more anti mmo ppl joined and started turning the community into a mess.It didn't need to happen.
Some ppl just shouldn't play mmo, or make them into something that isn't the purose of it. I was watching face off last episode and what 1 of thr ppl said holds true.
When you lose your way just for money, you lost what it really means.
MMo are losing their way for sake of money and pleasing the wrong crowd for mmo. We don't need high school drama in video games. More so from an age group that is 18-50. I never played Eq Eq2 or Eqoa. And what i knew of mmo when I started was community games, that you play with other players and fun. Sorry getting harassed over a play style isn't fun nor is being stalked its a waste of money.
I know i still play XI but I prefer WHM it was my first choice and it is what I like to do, was lvling brd when the servers shut down though.
LOL half of our abyssea LS got all their boss kills, full AF3+2, 90% of their emp weapons completed and all caturae downed them bailed on the LS
