This isn't wrong and is likely to play out, but look at it from the other perspective.

A certain number of (mostly NA) players seem to have the misconception that they can all play on the same world or instance servers with no negative side effects. That somehow the devs can just wave a magic programming wand and have unlimited people all on one big server, but instead refuse to do that for some reason. That's obviously not the case - they've offered free transfers, extra incentives to move to specific places, and locked the most populated worlds, yet those people refuse to accept them in order to help fix the problem. So now they have to do something more serious (and expensive) to try and alleviate those issues.

It might not work as great as they plan, but the dev team isn't the only group making poorly informed decisions here.

Server transfers are not an option, making them free doesn't fix the problem.

Balmung had a pretty big raiding population back during coil, before cross world party finder was a thing. In fact, it wasn't until Gordias that raiding on balmung got bad, and that was only because people jumped ship to greg thinking they could get carries on the "raiding" server.

Theres no reason why new statics cant form, people can raid anywhere.

I know you are a big shot ultimate raider, but its not hard to raid with people who aren't big shots. Just takes like minded people, who can be found anywhere, and some effort. Lots of outrage and "were gonna designate servers for this" fixes nothing.

They didn't say anything at all about a new physical data centre or relocating the servers, so it sounds like they will all still be in the same places they are now.

Clarification question. So they add new Data center. Which means they get a whole new batch of instance servers. So they are increasing the instance servers from lets say two to three (for simplicity). So that means we are seeing an increase right? Or do they plan to split the physical resources they already have and hope they balanced it? Because if they are adding more physical resources couldn't those just be allocated to what already exists?



Is it they just don't want to build a lobby system for the instance system? They have known they have an issue since HW's. It exploded with their increased desire to instance more content in SB quests.



If they are just splitting the same resources won't it be even worse at the beginning of each patch and expansion. Instead of the same amount of players accessing 1 instance server they are only going to get 0.75. The load is the initial rush having less spread over more won't help.

You have time before the switch happens to free transfer.
Talk it out to the people you wish and decide what's important to you more.

Personally, in MY OPINION, I will think the RP players will be happy since Mateus and Balmung are on the same servers.

And Primal can continue on being its Heavy Raid focused.

It will be a tough choice for some people yes.

But SE is being very forgiving and offering many elevations for those people who do decide to transfer...

When I transferred from Hyperion to Leviathan I made the switch for raiding and many of my friends it hurt to say goodbye but I did the choice for what I felt was best.

Now people have that choice too - it's ultimately how you feel which is more important.

Raiding with individuals who do not share your same goals and level of skill are a recipe for disaster. You wouldn’t throw softcore raiders into a group of hardcore raiders, just like you wouldn’t throw a hardcore raider into a group of softcore. The goals are not the same, and eventually all the contention and frustration over it will bubble over and result in members leaving and/or statics breaking.

But, thank you, for proving you don’t actually have an argument. You wouldn’t have to devolve into cheap-shot ad hominem if you did.

It's not hard to foresight that when most of those worlds are already preferred worlds. Kind of the point they were paired together so you're only stating the obvious. Gilgamesh, Cactuar, Jevona, and Sarg will not boost because the raiders are there, they will boost because people are being torn apart from their friends who just happen to be on those servers currently. The role players will leave Crystal to be with their friends since their friends won't leave the statics they are in; or the majority of their statics just happen to be on Aether; and they will forge new RPCs on those servers just like they did with Mateus. It has very little to do with raiders and more to do with where the majority of their social networks happen to be. If raiding was the primary focus to begin with than these servers would have been more populated to begin with from the start and they are not. Both Mateus and Balmung have a higher population than any current raid server.


If a raid server becomes the most populated in 5.0 it would mostly happen because all the role players had left went there forming a new RPC on that server. Raiding is an after thought for many before picking their friends.

I'm not overly fond of the idea of having Balmung attached to my server cluster, but if it alleviates server strain during peak hours or expansion launches it'll be well worth it.

Personally I'm not hit with this, my friend circle is pretty small and server contained. However, to those of you making the hard choices in the coming move I wish you all the best.

P.S. Crystal it's time to grab your bootstraps, we're all going into this together let's try to keep the queues moving.

And if those like-minded people are all on Aether? You may only care about doing stuff casually, but other people don't. Which is why Balmung is currently exploding with people leaving. As more and more people funnel back to Aether, it will becoming increasingly difficult to find these "like-minded people" even for raiders who aren't "big shot ultimate raiders".

I wonder if you'll feel the same should Crystal's PF scene be complete dead.

Mhm, with the serves we're gonna have now...like...I don't even know.
Because I can tell you, almost all PF's I join are hosted by Gilgamesh, Jenova, Cactuar and Balmung.

Everybody else my vary but from my whole time of joining Savages through pf, its always those servers and even joining statics.

My point wasn't to make a cheap shot, but to prove a point. You don't have to be a big shot raider surrounded by other big shot raiders to have a good time and clear content (in this case raids). Everyone jumping ship is just going to cause the same issues from before, except now even RP'ers are apparently jumping ship. So now we have a full datacenter because no one wants to put forth any effort into making new friends or fostering new groups.

I'm all for people moving to stick with friends, and it sucks for those groups being broken up, but to be this outraged and have this kind of reaction to it is simply hilarious to me.

I'd like to see the possibility of FC World Transfer. However they can do it, Leader is able to carry over their FC keeping it's ranking, FC Credits, reimbursed for housing, workshop, etc. understandable that all members would need to be removed before transfer. Players/Members of can relocate with the already established player world transfer incentives and also their FC can too and meet back up on their new destination world.

Not good. It's not just about the gil. I have a lakeside medium in Lavender Beds, the refund won't help me in getting a new one. So it's basically either my house or my friends.
There's no way I'm giving up the house I searched a year for, so I guess I'll have to make an alt.
Also imagine the queue times off peak hours/for PvP on Chaos.. It already takes over 30 min quite often.
Honestly this could be fixed with cross DC duty finder and linkshells. Pls.

Being on Coeurl, this is terrible.

I'm losing my static, my potd/hoh teams and everyone I do party finder with that isn't on my server.

Keeping the ERP Hellscape that is the 2 rp servers though! Guess that counts for nothing.

Crystal party finder and raid scene is going to be godawful unless people transfer here.

Anyone who would want to do something like the Ultimate raids or do speedkills/optimization runs cannot achieve that goal if they are raiding with people who do not share that goals.

I am some 'big shot ultimate-tier raider', and while I'm sort of fine with the way this is going (since I saw this coming from a mile away when the devs already locked Balmung multiple times and continuously upped transfer incentives and designated preferred servers), I'm still upset over one thing.

The one thing being that they would even do this without going the extra mile and making sure that players/FCs that decide to transfer are able to keep their housing intact. Of course, this is quite difficult from a programming standpoint, but it is also the number one roadblock preventing people from transferring in the first place. As it currently is, the only people transferring are the people with little to nothing to leave behind. With Balmung being grouped with all of the low end population servers, it's not really going to work out upon further thought. The people in Balmung with little to lose will just move back to an Aether server to reconnect with friends there instead of going to any other Crystal server, and the raiders of all the other Crystal servers (that are probably already well established enough to own a house and everything due to the low population in the first place) that are to be moved to Crystal are basically completely out of luck.

If they installed AFK kickers like they did before, we would of never had this problem to start.
The AFK kicker helped tremendously and should do that every time an expansion begins.
They took too long to implement it on SB, like 3 days. Should of done it from the start
if they learned anything from HW launch. Kinda sad because of congestion that people
are forced apart like this when there's a fix for said congestion.

I have an existing friend circle, static and housing. Why is it mine or anyone's responsibly to make new friends? What a silly thing to say. People don't want to lose their existing communities nor should they. Hence why they're outraged. If you had ties, maybe you'd appreciate that.

I've thought this was something that would be useful, too. It won't solve the housing issue, which is real, but for those who don't want to leave their FC, it would smooth stuff over.

The AFK kicker helps a bit, but it's not the solution. Upgrading server infrastructure is. Getting people more spread out across multiple servers is also helpful, and they've been doing that for some time.

I'm losing my old static, as well as some old friends. But it is what it is. Its happened every time I moved states too, but that's how things go. I simply just stopped being outraged over things like this a long time ago, as it was bad for my health.

I picked the group of friends i was closest to back when they allowed free transfers off Balmung, and moved with them. It is the same case here.

People have made connections in those 5 years and have played with each other in those 5 years.
To me your comment is like "Oh well, make new friends and move on."

Definitely agree this is the worst part, probably because housing is one of the worst systems in the game in general. The other issues, while frustrating for many people, are not completely insurmountable with planning (moving with your friends, doing the exact same organizing you've done before with all the notice, etc.), but your housing situation is almost guaranteed to suffer no matter what you do and that really sucks.

Would be best if they just fixed the whole system so it wasn't the most difficult asset to recreate or even obtain in the first place, but I don't know if they have any good ideas for it.

AFK people have very little to do with this. AFK people have an affect on your specific world, not on the entire data center, or more importantly its instance servers.

Kicking AFKers fixes your login queue. It doesn't fix overloaded instance servers.

Its been out for 5 years, yet for the first 2 at least of those, maybe 3, i dont remember, you were limited to same server only friends. Maybe thats where the difference in opinion comes into play. I made most of my friends before cross world became a thing.

To every person who has tried to minimize the impact this is having on groups of friends being torn apart - please, I'm trying really hard to not get banned from the forums, don't force my hand.

Right now I am on Zalera with my FC and the majority of my static who I love. Our DRG is on Cactuar and we were so happy to find him at the end of Sigmascape and he fits in perfectly. My best friend in-game is from Adamantoise, sometimes he's literally been the reason I've kept playing so that we have a thing to do together and hang out in discord during. I've got people I care for on servers spread across all 3 data centers now and it was bad enough being unable to play with people from Primal but now it's gotten even worse.

If you think this isn't an absolutely awful decision by SE that showed basically no care for the playerbase or the friendships that have formed via this game I don't know what to tell you. If you think ' Oh well, make new friend's I am literally disgusted by you. Seek therapy, you need help.

I have a small house but it's in Goblet so wouldn't mind getting full refund and the possibility of getting a way better plot/house on a dead server from Crystal. The free transfer is very tempting.

My main char is on Sarg and I don't raid or have friends so issue of splitting doesn't hurt me much. Moving to Crystal the essential non-crowded Dc might be a good idea for me. However, I'm worried about Crystal's PF scene and queues being beyond horrible.

Its hard to not be used to "just making new friends" when as a child you move every 2-4 years, before the internet age and cellphones and constant connectivity were a thing. Maybe that's why im not all that upset, I'm used to it. I don't need therapy for my way of thinking any more than you need therapy for yours.
