SE loves to make things complicated.
Of what?
None of that has anything to do with why they hide server names, and make inactive players go to a random server.
Merge servers: problem solved.
Pretty simple, they are just doing it wrong. Not the first time they have bumbled the solution to a very simple problem.
Well SE needs to just say which server is which and problem solved.
Like 1 = Besaid
2 = Rabanastre
3 = Cornel etc...
I believe they will do something about the confusion.
I believe.
Haha, maybe I am being a white knight for once. I guess it is cause I am bored all the time on my small server so I'm just glad it is here. However, I do find all these problems you guys have with the server merger trivial. Plus, it is very entertaining to watch this thread.
So many of you are missing the real problem here. The unknown server names aren't even that big of a deal...
Some people have legit reasons to be away from the game whether it's boot camp, sickness, or death in the family. They're not waiting for 2.0 so they'll be back as soon as they can, but since they're going to miss the deadline, they'll be tossed to a random server.
Tell me, how's that a good thing?
So SE is supposed to cater to people who don't even play the game anymore? Give me a break. I'm as pissed of as anyone that I bought the CE back at release, but I don't blame SE at all for not basing their strategy on people who aren't paying customers right now.
It's not. It's a #$%^ happens thing. I'm glad I have a say in where I'm going, and since I'm paying and they're not, I'd say that is a good thing.Quote:

At the time and date listed below, the FINAL FANTASY XIV Lodestone was updated.
[Date & Time]

- A ‘Follow’ button has been added to the ‘Members’ list in the linkshell page that will allow players to follow their linkshell members.
Prob should use this.
I have a friend away in the field, not sure when he'll be back but he has an active paying account. What happens to people like that, that return to play with their friends only to end up on another world?
this is retarded and overly complicated.
With FFXI, they announced what server was staying and what was merging into it. That was that, easy and painless.
Would it be possible to lets say buy new copy of XIV before the merge, create a character with same name, log into the server after the duplicate character name to change you're name?
Meh i dont care about the name. it might be called server 3 or whatever.
If all my guys get to be in the same server as i am anyways, name don't matter.
We can all talk about it and just choose same one.
i bet me and all toons and names i am sick of looking at will
all end up being on same server again SUPERLAWL.
I will be following my linkshell to a new server and I hope my friends will come, but I am not sure about that one, will have to chat to em soon.
I actually like this system, they have given us plenty of time to decide, if someone is not currently playing they can easilly reactivate just to choose a world, and maybe try out 1.21 as well while they are there. If someone has a friend that cannot play for a real reason (ex people that didnt ragequit) they can give thier acc info to someone they trust to change worlds for them.
And the people that played one month then ragequit till 2.0 deserve to get a random server, its the price you pay for not paying.
The only 2 problems I have are:
We need to know the names of the servers asap, we cannot really make a decision or discuss it with friends or linkshells until we know new server names.
And will a free choice be available when 2.0 is released, I have friends that are joining on PS3 and have said they want to play on the same server as me, I would hate to not beable to play with them just because they dont have a PC that can run the game or dont like playing on PC (most of them fit the fomor better).
Edit: If they follow online FF tradition they will be named after something from previous FF games, FFXI had summon names, FFXIV beta had villain names and now we have old town names, what about hero names, I would love a Kain Highwind server :)
They will re-open server and lets people choose server again after 2.0 hit so people need to calm down. I think this way is bad because people have to wait for v2.0 in order to play with their friends.
So, I didn't read all the posts but what exactly is this fuss about servers names ? You got numbers, can't you deal with numbers from 1 to 10 ?
While it is probably true there is nothing in the notes that confirm it, so right now thats just speculation.
Also, it just occured to me that there is a chance they are doing a server upgrade as well, seeing as we have seen alot of server issues, which could be why they are just making everyone change, I know that doesnt require them to have a new name but something to throw out there.
Shaedhen, it's not the naming issue. Main thing is that absent players will be automatically placed into random servers. Note I said absent, because some people may have rl issues that will keep them from logging in during the transfer period (boot camp, sickness, death in the family, etc). They'll be back as soon as they can, only to find they lost their friends.
First sorry about the double post (if it ends up one)
They arent sticking with the numbers, the numbers are placeholders for names they havent decided to release yet,
Anyone have population numbers? for each server, so we will have an idea of what we could have?Quote:
The new Worlds shall inherit the names of the ten most popular current Worlds. Name assignments will be announced after the transfer selection period has ended.
i have high hopes that this will not go through >.> Currently reading all what the JP thread is saying on this and i see like 1-2 people out of 16 pages so far that are even "OK" with it. The rest are pretty much "WTF is this?" reaction.
Considering a lot of people start playing because they want to play with their friends, I will be very pissed off If I get kicked to a server that does not have my friends on it.
A better suggestion would be offering small benefits for players who want to switch to a less-populated server. We should be able to choose who we want to play with.
Don't make me quit this game, devs. And I will.
It's actually not only that which most of us are concerned about.
By randomly assigning servers and allowing transfers, servers are going to fill up. Everyone on Selbina (one of the largest servers) can't simply plan to go to server 3, because as the server fills up not everyone will be able to get in. Which means linkshells are going to be broken up.
During the 2nd phase people might try to fix this by moving their linkshell to a low pop server where there is room, but even if you managed to get the majority of your friends to come with you on the first move (except the few that couldn't), they might not all want to go some low pop server just for those few people.
Linkshells and communities are going to be broken up, and if I was a less sympathetic man I would laugh at those of you pointlessly defending this system by suggesting you can "easily coordinate" everyone onto the same server with no issues when you end up being the only one in your LS who can't get on the new server with your buddies.
If they just did a merger of low pop servers into high pop servers, and then allowed transfers there would be no problems whatsoever and everyone could be happy.
Oh yes, I understand the issue of poeple not being able to log before the merge and I don't like the way this merge takes place either, but I saw some poeple complaining about how they didn't give us the name of each server and I don't see why it is so important to them.
"The new Worlds shall inherit the names of the ten most popular current Worlds. Name assignments will be announced after the transfer selection period has ended" this was clearly stated in the page, and that is what the fuss is all about. People don't know the names (yet) and they can't decide which to go to.
They can just use the numbers... but you know how people are here
How about we bring back a good ol' FFXI tradition and all die at the gate out of uldah, the 2k dead bodies always looks awesome.
