Perhaps help is the true poison?

:) I didn't forget the detail. I might be doing just that at times. However, not only does that seem a little unfair to have to do (as I have been looking forward to housing like most), as I pointed out, I do want to use it sometimes.
But more to the point than my own personal thoughts on this, is that it's true that (unless Yoshi-P is already making provisions for this) the xp bonus will cause some people to have choose a certain class first. What if you do want to use it for crafting, but you logged on to battle first and craft later? Or maybe you want to level your lancer, but your party needs you to play healer. Or even, you log in to play your level 50, and you decide later to level a class.
In other games, rested xp works because one character is one class anyway, but in this game, one character is everything. Being able to choose which class you want to use it for, and when, I think is important.
Well... Truth to the told i'm kind of expecting it to work like it does on City of Heroes. There depending on time spent logged off you get Patrol XP. So you have, say, 3000 Patrol XP. So the next real XP you get has a 1.5 multiplier until you 'use up' all of those 3000 Patrol XP.
If it works like that, those rest bonus here would probably be applied to whatever XP you earn (though it would likely be wasted on a 50 class unless you do not actually earn XP when you reach that point, I'm not that far in this game) in whatever order you earn it.
If they need a stupid exp boost just to play the game, this isn't the game for them......
Question: Why is everyone assuming it's going to be rested XP?
To me it seems more like you will get a permanent boost in exp if you log out in your room. It probably won't be too high and the only reason for implementing it is to force people who want to overoptimize everything to run to their inn room and pay the rent, draining some gil from the economy - no one will be rewarded for not playing the game.
Because the way it is worded suggests that it is "rested xp bonus" perhaps? This is a standard feature in the western mmo, just like buyback features on NPCs.
And for the people saying this game will be "ruined" by implementing more WoW-features: I hate to point this out, but if this game was a Wow clone with the Final Fantasy name tagged on it, a crapton people would still be playing it (instead of the mass exodus we saw October '10). The game doesn't need more "WoW" per se, but it does need a hefty bit of westernization (which just so happens to include WoW within its sphere).
Playing a MMO shouldn't be this hard lol It's a large contributor to why it was free to play for over a year and why it requires an entire overhaul. That's just how it is.
It was mentioned in one of the interviews and they way it was worded didn't suggest that, nor is it now. I think you just expect it to be rested exp because that's the only system that appears to be likely, since it's the one you know.
It was worded as a bonus for using an inn, not a bonus for those who play rarely. The latter would be rested exp, the former, is not.
Very wrong sir, I think this game needs more of Final Fantasy features. If it was a WoW clon with Final Fantasy name, I would have never thought of playing the game ever.
It is the same with other titles.
so thats what we have now -> Final Fantasy XIII != Final FantasyQuote:
Quote:
“He[Toriyama] also believes that it becomes very difficult to tell a compelling story when the player is given a huge amount of freedom to explore.”
Quote:
“Toriyama is interested in using first-person shooter games for inspiration rather than other role-playing video games,”
Quote:
“Toriyama aimed for the game design of the first half of Final Fantasy XIII to play like watching a film. The reason was so the player could become absorbed with the story and characters and not get distracted or lost.”
and dont tell me taking Final Fantasy in WoW direction is not exactly the SAME mistake!
I want to play Final Fantasy, not World Of Warcraft. So dont tell me and other Final Fantasy players we should not think they go in a wrong direction when they turn this game into a WoW clon.
I am certainly not against every change in that direction, but I think it's okay to be a bit skeptical.
What exactly is a "final fantasy feature"? Awful open world content? Terrible UI? Lack of class synergy? Yes, I'd put those on my resume if I was trying to sell my game to the world...
I'm not saying you're wrong for wanting to play final fantasy, but don't be so naive to think that this game is going to survive with an archaic model in today's mmo world. If 2.0 doesn't westernize (ie. modernize) the entire game then it will fail. In today's market that means it will have a ton of features that WoW so happens to have. And to answer your question, thinking that it is difficult to tell a good story in anything but a vaccuum is really stupid (I didn't buy xiii-2 as I detested xiii), but comparing that to modernizing is not even close to the same scenario. The latter is profitable.
SE wants to male money and if their projected numbers show that "making large changes to the game's core" (remember that play poll??) is gonna put a billion dollars in their bank account, then they're gonna do that. Whether you personally play or not is no real concern tbh, as someone else will pay for a wow clone that is called Final Fantasy 2.0. I know I would.
Truth to be told, compare JRPGs with stuff like the TES series. TES has a horrible, horrible shallow story with quite literally no involvement from the player's part, because everything needs to interact with everything in an extremely open environment and everything needs to be relevant (otherwise there is no reason to waste resources with it, so why place it). So the story becomes highly diffuse. You might get, say, 4 or 5 quests that together don't have the gametime of half a JRPG that are pretty awesome stories, but not everything is one big, epic and long tale.
JRPGs play differently, they focus on a single quest and a single tale in detail rather than attempting to follow 2000 things going on at the same time, they are far more linear and focus far more on character development since the cast is more or less static so it gives far more involvement for the player.
One can only, in fact, tell an amazing story in a 'vacuum', because its like when your old, old, old grandfather starts telling you this great story of his childhood and then starts going off into tangents and then doesn't even remembers what he was talking about any longer. This 'vacuum' is merely focus on that particular tale, leaving other things for a later time.
By the way, when I mention JRPGs I mean the 'general setup' of a JRPG, some western ones like Mass Effect also fit in there, forex.
You are not wrong but I think if they focus on content and a very good story line, a great atmosphere and a solid system - sure it will take some time but I think that will do a lot for the game. (FF feature)
Imo they only need time to improve the things in the game and dont need to change everything and make things complicated. Because with every change there is a risk of losing people who like the things as they are.
Thing is, and they know this, there are more people to gain than there are to lose.
In some way or some form, most people that have posted on these forms have said something along these lines. So SE there is not a real reason to add this silly feature....
Responding to the FF feel crowed.
I'm pretty sure that everyone who baught this game, including myself, wanted a FF game, not a mix of western style play with Eastern. We all know that western games are all going the casual way(look at mass effect) the first one was great, it had all the rpg elements. Second one they took out some and made it more action, the third one is going to suck, because, well look at it, it's even more action. The reason why I bought the first Mass Effect was for the RPG elements and the story.
So, I bought the FF game to have FF elements not WoW elements or Everquest elements. That means taking things from EVERY FF game. You guys built a great structure from your past games. You can easily build a great mmo, you don't need help from these silly western games.
I think the confusion comes in at the moment WoW is mentioned. When you consider the features "Western MMOs" have, it's not something that should necessarily belong to that specific niche in the gaming genre.
Let's throw out things one could consider "accessory" to a MMO, such as rested XP bonuses and instead talk about "common sense" features. For example, simple things like npc buyback, ease of travel, a clean and understandable user interface, comparative tooltips on gear/items, transparency of effects (ie. food, ability descriptions), etc. You can probably think of a dozen more if you take 5minutes to do so. These are not things that ought to be exclusive to games born in the west, they should be in every MMO. When you launch a game that is so difficult to navigate, and is built on terrible server infrastructure, you introduce issues that should never have existed (ie. FFXIV launch).
People on these forums in particular are quick to jump down anyone's throat at the very mention of WoW, when it could be the case that a poster is simply trying to convey the idea that the difficulty of a game should be embedded into and/or a product of the gameplay itself, and not meta-game issues such as terrible targeting system, even worse server lag, or a poorly coded game client. Do you see the difference? You would almost have to be willfully ignorant to answer no.
I want this game to be more "Final Fantasy" than anything! But would I welcome what some might call "westernization" to the game (ie. those "common sense" features) I play every day and enjoy? Absolutely, and I'd call anyone a fool for feeling otherwise because I truly feel that the game should be difficult, but it should not be difficult just to interact with it.
did you just meantion WoW?

For what it is worth, I do not think levelling is fast at all. In fact, look at my join date, I haven't hit my first L50 yet. I play pretty often (though this last month i've been eschewing XIV in exchange for IV: Complete Collection), but not that much every day. I'm a hardcore 'gamer', in that I spend all my free time gaming, though I don't think I ever give XIV more than 1 hour a weekday and five per weekend.
Also, I do have a party pretty much at my beck and call (welllll... When I can get those lazy men moving, that is) and at least one is pretty experienced. I get, what, a 3~ levels a week? Generally one level every weekend day and one during the rest of the week.
Also I mostly focus on having fun, and doing quests, rather than micromanaging and number-crunching for the fastest levelling possible. Do you thin i'm a fringe case or the common case, mister Rokien?
I'm a slow leveler as well skie ^.^, if you were on my server I could get you your first 50 in a few hours. I enjoy a nice pace getting to 50.
I only have 2 50s while most my friends stand at 5+
Though, my point is that most everyone will agree that leveling is fast in this game, most people asking for this deal, look how many 50s they have, some of them also even stated that leveling is fast in one form or anouther ^.^
Ps: how is that IV CE ^.^
I’d like to comment about the EXP bonus earned while logged out that was previously mentioned in Producer Letter XXIV. In patch 1.21, a rest bonus will be implemented and it’ll be possible to receive an experience point boost depending on how long you rest in inns.
While this bonus will not be applied to quests and leve rewards, it will be applied to experience points earned during leves and crafting normally. When the bonus is saved up, the experience points you earn will be increased more than if you could not use guardian’s aspect. We will be introducing the specifics on the rest bonus on Topics soon.
Are the inns going to be based out of The Dunes? I really hope not, there is enough content located through that ally-way (several market wards, grand company, Path of the Twelve, and several other buildings that were in other quests). It's starting to get really ridiculous and unrealistic!
It's bigger on the inside than the outside?

I figured the inn would be in the adventurer's guild... since there's actually an inn there. There's even a NPC you can talk to that could theoretically give you entry.
I think what a lot of people aren't noticing is that they have made it so you have the option to level slow or level fast as you see fit. If you want to get to fifty in no time, you can. If you like to take your time, you can easily solo, duo, or trio grind and do just that. The freedom is there to play it how you want too. The xp bonus that comes from logging out in an inn just adds another layer to that for the people that don't play every single day. And frankly, considering how god awful the crafting system is right now to level, I welcome anything that helps me push through the level 30-50 stretch for the crafting jobs. Watching an entire season of 30 Rock on netflix just to distract myself from how mind numbing hitting the x button is 80,000 times to get from 25-26 carpentry shouldn't be the answer folks. I can't tell you all how many of those little crafting xp boost scrolls i had purchased on my old char from my grand company just to speed things up a little when crafting.
Also, I completely agree that they need to make the inn a real place in the city. Although, given the fact that its only temporary until we get player housing, I have the sinking feeling its going where everything else they create in 2 seconds does: Right in the market ward entrance.
I'm rather disappointed SE didn't come up with anything more original than rested exp. I guess all the people compalining about it were right after all.
So we're getting better results in crafting by NOT paying attention and now we're also going to get a bonus for NOT playing the game. Yay.
No, the inns are going to be based out of the inns. (imagine that?)
It already had a "more original" system. It didn't work. The same for most of its other "more original" systems.Quote:

Original doesn't always turn out to be better.
The "bonus for not playing the game" is merely intended to allow those players that cannot be as active to be at less of a disadvantage.
It's basically the old fatigue system, reworked to appear as a bonus to players who don't play as much instead of a punishment to those who play too much.
WoW did the same thing- When it was a "penalty", everyone complained, but when it was a "bonus", everyone was happy (and didn't even notice that not much really changed)
A quick fix until the 2.0 redesign.
I'm going to assume/hope that Market Wards, Inns, and GC Halls will be more realistically integrated into the new city maps.
Adding anything more than tacked-on content to our current maps/world is a waste of time for the devs at this point - I'd rather they make it look good for the re-release.
Rested exp is not making me happy. We don't need it, I know plenty of people whom got all 50s in a few months. That's hardly any time for an MMO. As I've said many times, they just need to give us an exp ring again. I'm ok with that, because its available for everyone.
