You just made my day. :D Sometimes I think nobody else remembers that show.
Not strictly true. D&D has no tanks in the MMO sense. But in 3.5 with ToB, lockdown Crusaders were a thing. Build that right, and nobody can get to the people behind you because they're making DC 40 Reflex saves every time they try to leave the square they're in. I did one recently with a spiked chain and 30' reach. It was extremely effective at forcing melee opponents to deal with me via battlefield control.
I'm all for skimpy clothing, as long as it's fair, and both males and females can wear it. Since this happens in FFXIV i have no issues with it.
That aside, I'd like to see more variety of this sort.
Anyone can wear what they want but have to accept some people will call them out if it looks ridiculous to their perceptions (not that you should care either way of course). I see a tank in bikini gear, I just roll my eyes and forget it within the same instant.
What others wear doesn't bother me but I will give them a good snark in my head, much like this: https://youtu.be/c-k9VE-eEY4?t=18s
Back when they had the tank armor design contest, I was tempted to submit an idea that I had for tank armor that was skintight and cloth, but had magical devices at various points (elbows, knees, waist, forehead, etc) that would project a translucent armor-shaped force field. A bit like the Holtzman shields in the old Dune movie, but more armor-shaped rather than blocky. I wasn't going for "skimpy" (though I suppose the skintight cloth could be sexy), but rather for the cool "magic armor" effects.
Unfortunately, my artistic skills are lacking, and I was too unconfident to submit my idea. :P
