And apartments could have them too!
I miss 'real gardening'.
I recall reading at one point, someone came home to their house to find people erping in say on their bed...

wake up to your self there are new player that don't own a house fc's that do not own a house they need to work you there skills i say BOO you to not helping new players Let them use it if you do not like then do not place one SIMPLE as for me everyone is welcome to use mine :) anytime they want
Reading this thread saddens me greatly.
You have a house to yourself - and that entire group of people do not , yet you have the arrogance to complain they're interacting with stuff in your yard?! This a dream come true for FFXIV, it was designed to have that neighborhood feeling, and you actually experience it, and of all things to get angry over it is the use of a striking dummy that has zero cost to you.
If you're not a fan of this kind of thing, just get rid of the house so someone else can enjoy - then again, this kind of opinion i am addressing says "things that annoy me personally are more important than a group of people having fun doing nothing destructive" so its probably also the same mentality that you believe you are better than they are - which you'd then be best off keeping the house to rub in their faces and then post here.
This is one of the most selfish threads i've ever seen across several different MMO's.
Wait... You guys actually have people in your ward to step in your yard?! I'd be happy to see even one person come by.
Like I asked earlier, is it really a "Neighborhood feeling" if they are only uses stuff in your house/yard and not actually interacting with you or the other tenants of the house?
I don't know about you, but if some one or a group of people came to my house IRL and tried to have sex in my bath tub or tried to jump on my shrubbery in some lame attempt at parkour, "Neighborhood feeling" wouldn't be the first thing that would come to my mind... >x>
If you're salty about not having a house, just say so, don't hide behind this so you can call people who do have it selfish and make yourself feel like you're on some moral highroad (or that wouldn't be complain about it if you did have a house).
My retainer brought back a dummy but after the horror stories and even though my neighborhood is a ghost town, I put it
on the MB hehe.
Quite a claim there.
Why would you think i'd paint all homeowners in a negative light simply because i said the OP is selfish while at the same time desiring to be one myself? Thats like me saying all nurses are stupid while im in nursing school.
I get you dont think people interacting with your house is "neighborly", but do you REALLY want housing to be desolate places many people claim they are? Try talking to these people, you never know what happens. You could even be the change you want to happen in your ward. Instead, you are annoyed by their existence, and even voice suggestions to eliminate such interactions.
You DO control housing interiors, so anyone complaining about one-off stories they heard about happening in someone elses house isnt exactly relative. Far as exteriors, im not exactly sorry when saying it, but suck it up or seriously - dont bother using the content if it really bothers you that much.
I see your point, however I am not totally against it. I'm fine with either outcomes really.
Me personally, I don't care. I would actually love people to come over to my place and chillax. Is it rude? To some people, sure it is. But I have a nice house, nice water front, and a nice yard... I want to show it off. If it takes a striking dummy tolure people into my trapbe your friendly neighbour, then please. :)
But if SE decides to go with that route then I'll be fine with that as well. I don't use striking dummies at all. It's only for the convenience of tenants.
No one is going to abandon their plot based solely on not being able to keep unwanted guests off their lawn.
I actually removed my FCs striking dummy because Joe Schmoe from down the road whom I’ve never met decided him and his buddies would wail on it without acknowledging anyone in my FC. That’s a problem solved and I just washed my hands of it but there are real concerns being made here, like how black listed people can show up whenever they want. Are you saying that FC being harassed should give up their plot?
Sounds like someone is sour they don’t have housing.
God I wish I could have this problem lol. While you’re here, come check out my house, too <3
Whew lad. The things trivial things people complain about. I can understand if they are erping in your house (which you can shut your house off to the public if this is the case), but complaining because someone is using your striking dummies, HAH. I'd be over the moon if people hung out around my plot or hell if anyone hung about in my section of my house.
So...You don't want to ask for attention, you just want to be the center of it?
Wanting people to come to your house and not wanting to be the cause of the coming to your house seem to be conflicting each other... :B
And it doesn't have to be you gloating that you have a house. You can advertise it as a hang out area. Or you can dress it up and RP. Maybe throw a "Make New Friends" social party.
There is a lot you can do but you just seem to want to just wait and hope people will come to you, which doesn't seem to be working for you... >x>
Don't mind if ones is on property as long they don't afk on it for long periods. After all my house is kind of big for one person only.
Yes. Let's change how that works just for you, because you're too lazy to put it in your storage when you're done. It's too hard to push two buttons to put it away! Dx Ruin the fun for everyone because I can't handle people touching my things!
Remember when people in this game actually helped each other and were nice? Thems were the days. I miss them. The community is really going downhill.
I completely support a toggle for this. I've never had any unwanted guests running around my yard, I'm up on a hill and out of the way. I had some friends that would come over just to use it, and while on most days I don't mind, sometimes I just don't wanna be bothered. Shouldn't have to move your stuff every time you want to use it, but being able to turn it on and off would be very nice.
If they need to use a Striking Dummy, they can find them in various places in the open world.
Heaven forbid we make people got off their lazy asses and traverse in the big, open world.
Oh, but there no hunts for me to leech off on and I want to be able to tab out afterwards and go afk for an hour or two! Plus teleporting takes much effort! Dx
Remember when people in this game actually went out and explored places? Thems were the days. I miss them. The community is really going downhill.
>w>
Yes how dare anyone expect to be able to control who uses what on property they own. /eyeroll
The community is going downhill because someone doesn't want random people messing with their furnishings? Really? Good god it's not as if they're the only dummies in the game. There are plenty outside of residential areas. Honestly I think it's rude to take advantage of someone else's belongings. If the community is going downhill, you're certainly not helping by expecting home owners to be okay with strangers using their garden as a personal dojo.
I sit in my yard to craft most of the time. I have a training dummy out. I play with the sound on. While I don't mind if people use it, if they were there all the time pounding away on the dummy, with their obnoxious yelling and sound effects, I would start to get aggravated. Especially if I asked them politely to stop and they kept doing it. It's not my responsibility to put my stuff away just because someone else doesn't know how to be a polite person.
I had a neighbor that was all psycho about people using their striking dummy. One day a person afk'd on their lawn while in battle for almost an entire week...this prevented the homeowner from doing anything with the striking dummy for that entire time(even remove it) because it was "in combat". We all died laughing as they raged daily.
Oh shit I thought this was a troll post. LOL do some people really get this butt hurt over people use their striking dummy? Granted it can be annoying but do what most people do and just remove the dummy when you are not using it. That is what I and many others do. No reason to ask SE to invest man hours into preventing something that is already fairly easy to fix on the players side.
This made me smile.
Why should SE put man hours into this issue when an easier option that requires no extra expenditure of funds or time when a solution is already available that does not cost them a dim or a second.
Alright. How about the rights of the other people on this issue? You say you want people to control who uses their property, yes? So why would you then profess to push your own desires on the homeowners that either don't care or like people using their dummies? Why do your wishes trump their wishes? Why do you get to decide who uses my dummy?
I’m not going to act desperate, and I sure as hell would prefer random people don’t come and to in there... lol
It’s not something I actively want. I have plenty of friends in game so making more is not exactly something I’m actively searching for. But having people check out my house without me even asking or advertising is what I want.
I wouldn't mind people coming in the yard if they were polite about it. I like to craft in my yard, I even made a little spot to do it. One day someone comes in the yard, doesn't say a word to me and just starts using the striking dummy. He does a jump back move lands on top of me, and just keeps going. I'm like WTF, the nerve, you don't see me here.
If I'm out running around my ward and I see someone's house open to the public. If the homeowner is in the yard I wave to them, say something, and still ask can I look in their house, even if it's open. I just don't ignore them and go in the house or start using their stuff. I know it's a video game, but act like you have some home training.
I find this all very amusing, but if not said already what's the stance on people who water your plants while standing on said lawn? Without your permission of course. Do you take offense or enjoy that your neighbors care enough? I'm guilty of random dummy abuse and tending to dying plots.
This is absurd. If people want to control who uses their dummies then they should have the ability to turn off letting others use it. If people don't care then they can ignore the toggle and let people keep using it. The only people whose wishes this trumps is those that feel they're entitled to use someone elses stuff instead of teleporting to a place with public dummies to use.
This tread can be summed up with two groups of people. Those that want the option to control it, and those that are against it because they have no respect and want to use other peoples things. Why should a home owner be forced to go out of their way to remove furniture because you can't control yourself to not use their dummies? Seriously, use your own example and use those two button clicks to teleport to a location that has public dummies instead of using someone elses.
I'd support that but that isn't what the OP is asking for. He specifically said: "SE, please tie striking dummy use to house owners and tenant only." He's not saying 'let people decide.' He's saying to take it away from all.
You can tend other people's plants, yes.
You forgot group three the one that does not see the point in having SE waste man hours on something that can easily be solved on the side of the player. Do not want people using your dummy remove it when you are done. Sure the option would be nice, but it not such a major issue t hat is worth SE to put any extra resources in trying to resolve when they have already provided the players with a viable option. Remove the dummy when it is not in use. This has nothing to do with respect to be 100% honest. It simply makes no sense why SE should spend any man hours on such a issue. I mean if it is simply a toggle issue so be it, but being how archaic their server infrastructure is I find it highly unlikely this is a toggle issue.
Also no one has yet to provide a reason as to why SE should expend man hours and budget to resolve an issue that can easily be resolved by the players. As I have said the option would be nice, but really it is such a non priority QoL issue. I mean to some like OP it may be a major issue, but in terms of a company that has to manage a budget and usage of man hours fairly certain issues like this are fairly low on the list of things they wish to fix / take care of. Which is perfectly understandable.
You know anybody can use it but you put it up. Then blame SE because anyone can use it.... I'm lost in the logic. Why did you put up the dummy again when it's not the dummy you want, you know, the kind that no one else can use? I put ours up for guests, members, passersby because.... i know anyone can use it.
You can't havest but yeah you can tend to other people's crops, I personally enjoy doing so if I notice my neighbors are away too long.

There's a huge difference between wanting to show off your house to strangers and wanting strangers at your house. :B
1 Why should they when one can simply use one of the dummies littered around the wards? As I have the said the option would be nice, but no one has provided a reason as to why SE should waste time and man hours on such a trivial QoL chance. Sure it may not be trivial to you, but still what reason would SE have to use time and money on a feature that can be solved by simply putting the dummy away when it is not in use.
